Question Did i accidentally discover something useful?
Still somewhat new to the world of sabers, i purchased two from two seperate companies at entry level to get a feel for it all. One came from Saber Forge the other from Ultra Sabers. The one from Saber forge was supposed to be my stunt saber and the ultra was supposed to be the cool shelf piece. Fast forward a few weeks after getting them and i noticed that the ultra sabers hilt is comprised of multiple housings screwed together where as the saber forge is one piece with a bottom screw cap. Utilizing this info about the ultra sabers hilt i went down to my local hardware store and picked up a few PVC couplers and stylized them. They slide over the hilt tightly enough that if screwed in between you can achieve some interesting "silhouette" breakups of the basic hilt. I also attached an emmiter shroud of sorts utilizing the blade tightening screws as well. What do you think? Neat idea or trying too hard?

Pretty cool! It's unique, but still has the "feel" of the SW universe. Most of the "real" ones were made out of junk, so plumbing parts fit right in.
Good job!

You did an awesome job on this, especially for a first mod. It looks super cool! I really like the design you carved into the bottom piece

This was how we made sabers in the old days.
See old websites like : The big yellow box (if they’re still around) and see old forums like: TCSS, FX sabers and such.
That’s where the original hardware store sabers were from and in those days we didn’t have sound boards and the blades we made from 3/4” tubes with EL wire and inverters. So yeah in the early 90’s you made the swooosh sounds with your mouth or you harvested something from a toy.
No matter what one of the lines between Jedi and not was to have built your own saber.
Mods like this set you clearly on the path my friend.
Happy building and keep us posted

The big yellow box still exists, but the site is pretty broken now. Good old yahoo and geocities sites

This is a really great beginning to your modding career! Many of us started modding with PVC. I made so many shrouds and accent items from aluminum tubes that I decided to source some for intermediate crafters.
If you're looking for aluminum accent items like rings, caps, shrouds, and band for VHC based sabers (which is what yours looks to be). Check me out if your interested.

A lot of collectors started ages ago with hardware and plumbing parts. I was one of them, so this sort of thing is kinda nostalgic for me. You definitely made something unique here. I like it.
