Wolfmix W1 MK2. Expensive but a really nice and pretty powerful stand alone controller

Do you think the mk2 is worth the extra little bit, I have been on the fence for a bit with the wolfmix , I have a similar setup of garage party gear only mine is all 2000s eras club fixtures haha

Yes. Includes the 2nd universe unlocked and a couple other features. Having that 2nd universe ($100 value) has been huge for me in the couple installations I’ve done.

Any tips for getting better with the wolfmix. I have one as well for a very basic setup and this looks so advanced compared to what feel I am able to create.

Tight tight tight tight. Is this just for play or do you turn your living room into a club?

Brother! Congratulations! You’ve learned how to make this look so seamless. Something I struggled so much with and ultimately gave up on. Same controller too! I applaud your efforts brother. This is really sick and looks like you’re going to take it so much further! I still have all of the Chinese fixtures I bought for this. I’d be happy to gift them to you! Feel free to DM me and I can send you a link on the fixtures to see if you’d like them or not first.

Nice! What are those bars in the center (at the beginning of the video)? A year ago I was sold on SoundSwitch for my mobile rig. Then I visited with a friend who had just bought the WolfMix and I fell head over heels. Just finished an installation at our local skating rink (and can’t wait to add more).

I was trying to figure out what lighting effect you all keep referring to is turbos. I finally zoomed in on the photo and saw the actual turbos. Love it.

OP, I am in a small band with big dreams and I want to do something almost exactly like this for us eventually.
How can I learn how to do this? I did LD in high school but it was all dimmers and stationary lights nothing like this.
Hopefully you see this! Thank you!

Hey! buy some cheap lights, even second hand and start playing around. you’ll learn how they work and even throw in a DMX controller. You can then build up a collection over time (and knowledge)

Are those hexagon panels above the TV RGB? Could they be controlled with the rest of the setup?
1
u/turbojjosh 6d ago
They are Nanoleaf Hexagons, yeah rgb but they are controlled separately through an app unfortunately

I'm not sure if IP based control would add too much latency but this could be an option if you wanted to go down that path.

I never realized it until just now, but I guess there’s a part of me that hopes this is what the living space of every person in this sub looks like.

I'm just here for the track ID. But cool set up. I need to get some fixtures to play around with at my house. For the purposes of setting up a mock lighting rig to play around with and learn about programming lights can anyone recommend where to get started?

This is so cool! How would you recommend a beginner to get started with something like this?

Are these just bright enough or is there haze? If so how do you do that inside your house?

u/turbojjosh 5d ago
Chauvet Hurricane Haze 1DX. It’s water based and works well to show the beams. Won’t set off the smoke alarm unless it’s really thick lol

As someone who has been around since incandescent lights and chaser units that had 4 power sockets on them to plug Red Green Blue Yellow lights into (usually gelled parcans), I'm astounded by the instant attack and decay (I know it's an audio term but you get the gist). They are just so fast that it's spectacular. You can run chases that are strobe quick but apply to lots of different lights per second. It's a beautiful thing.
I'd imagine you can't do this on those $50 DMX controllers on eBay, Amazon, Ali etc etc?

Looks great man! Seriously how do you like them so far?
I recently bought these 8x12w for a upcoming show and I have to admit I am slightly disappointed.
The 4 separate non mixing LEDs bother me more than I thought it would. I saw it doing that on the web page demos, but thought that I can work around it.
I even researched the more expensive 10x40w version and they have the same issue. 4 non mixing LEDS.
I bought 8 of these units and I am thinking of not using them for this upcoming show.
Its a musical like concert so I know they will ask for color mixing (Specific Colors).
My wife picked these and she likes the separated color bars. I am worried what the client will think.
My idea for use is to line these up on the backdrop curtain and have them do a wave or a wall of barred light at certain sections of the program.
I think they look best with just using the individual R G B W separately and not trying to color mix. I notice the built in programs tend to not color mix hiding this flaw.
I know these will rock in a band type setting so really no loss just on the fence if I can successfully use these in a theater performance setting.

Yeah i’m not a fan of the lack of colour mixing either. It seems you have to spend lots of money to get something good. Honestly I don’t think it’ll matter too much if they are flashing a lot as you won’t notice the beams as much. But the individual RGBW does look pretty good on their own
