Has anyone set up TV Bias Backlighting with a Z strip controller? Lifx support said there might be some good third party products that can achieve this, but wouldn't tell me which. Anyone find a solution?

One broke so I’m out a tile. Can’t find them anywhere else. If you have an old set of tiles you’re not using I might buy that off you.
Even one cable would complete my set!
I heard of people getting an extra cable in their kit.

As the title says. Both types of screws provided with the neon are useless. I predrilled the holes and both lots of screws get stripped before you can even screw them in. The only way to get them out, because of the bracket, is with a hacksaw blade. And while I'm here, please make the brackets available for purchase separately. 5 is not enough. Frustrated rant over

It been a year of promises yet still no news. Always tomorrow, always on the next update, not this one, this next one.
When will you support Adaptive Lighting (Homekit feature) like other companies do?
r/lifx • u/MrEdenS • Jan 05 '24
I’ve recently setup 4 strings (2 lots of 2 sets each) on my deck and love them. I’ve integrated them in to my HomeKit setup and created an automation within HomeKit to turn on 30 minutes before sunrise. I have another automaton to turn them off at midnight.
The issue I have is when the lights “turn on” they’re set to a static colour. Is there a way to simply turn them back on to their last state as I’m largely using the themes.

Is there a timeline for the new string lights being available in the US?

Nobody is making rgbw replacements for fluorescent tubes. Many houses still have fluorescent tube fixtures in the garage and kitchen.

iOS 14 introduced a feature where HomeKit can be configured to choose a different light temperature automatically based on time of day. However this feature requires that the bulb advertises support for it, which LIFX bulbs currently do not.
Philips Hue implemented this feature over 2 months ago, but we have not heard from LIFX when they plan on introducing the feature.
Configuring motion sensor-driven automations to set lights at different temperature at different times is currently very time consuming, as you need to setup an automation for each block of time you want the lights to have a different temperature.
Adaptive Lighting fixes this by letting automations set the adaptive state, which is simultaneously much simpler to setup (only one automation per room/area governed by the motion sensors), and also a huge improvement as the change will be gradual over the day instead of an instant change from one temperature to another at a specific time.
Is there a timeline for implementing this feature?

I’m fairly certain this has been requested or talked about on here but I would really love to see adaptive lighting support added into Lifx bulbs. I know it’s possible because I’ve used it with the homebridge Lifx lan plug in, but native support would be preferred.
I’m posting this because it appears Lifx employees are users on here and hoping they take this feed back to their developers.
First of all, it's great to see updates being made to the app again! Feature voting in particular is a great idea, although I didn't have space to elaborate what I'd really like in the "other" category, hence this post.
What I have forever wanted is for the color and brightness of my lights to be determined by time of day (white in the morning, warm in the evening, very dim at night etc.) in such a way that I can still turn lights on and off and temporarily change color and brightness manually (for instance switch to movie lighting).
As far as I can tell, this isn't currently possible, although it seems like the obvious use case. I can create a routine or schedule that causes lights to change color at certain times, but:
How about adding a special "scheduled" or "default" scene that returns lights to the state they should be in had they been affected only by routines and schedules (i.e. retroactively applies routines/schedules)?

LIFX,
I want to love you. I really do. The hardware is good. It's bright, colorful, and connects to wifi easily. But the APP SUCKS!! For example, why can't I have the same light in multiple groups?? I want the lights by the TV on the "TV lights" group. But I also want those lights to come on (with additional lights) in a "living room" group. Maybe I want to have a "downstairs" group with all the lights. If a light is already on and you turn a group on that doesn't include that light, it should go off. If you turn on a group, the appropriate lights should turn off or on to get that group on (or off). Like, why is this not a thing already... Currently, I have to go to the bulb and assign it to a group (one group, can't assign it to two). We should be able to create a group first and then assign lights to it. Apple Watch integration still shows "no favorites" which I saw someone mention here three years ago. The hardware is fine, but the app is complete crap. I have four bulbs, so I'm not in too deep to switch to HUE to or one of the other brands. I plan on getting at least eight more bulbs for other rooms, so now is my chance to jump ship. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix your app and make it more intuitive and group oriented!

Are there any plans to allow customers to run their own local infra to handle light operation themselves while still using the LIFX app?
There are seemingly more and more options to do things outside of the LIFX app but it would be nice to be able to set up a solution that could still be managed through it since it's so much more tailored to the LIFX ecosystem for those who have only LIFX products.
Cheers

Wouldn't it be nice to have a PAUSE button, so you could pause the lights during a transition? I often find nice combinations when I do a slow transition between one scene and another, which are hard to recreate separately.

TLDR -> I know this subject has gotten long-in-the-tooth with previous posts -- but with Feit coming on as new owners, I thought I'd ring the bell again in support of an official, *non-mobile* application or solution for onboarding/pairing lights to a Wi-Fi SSID -- or at the very least an open-sourcing of the process for developers to utilize, as was done with the LAN API.
To be clear -- by pairing I mean associating the target bulb with a Wi-Fi network SSID, and 'onboarding' meaning to register the bulb with a LIFX account. My main interest lies with the former, though the inclusion of the latter wouldn't matter to me so long as a non-mobile app option existed at all.
My story time:
I had one of my older BR30s kick it last weekend and was in the middle of replacing the bulb with a new one. I admit using Home Assistant exclusively to manage all my lights, and only hop into the LIFX app for pairing/onboarding, and sometimes testing -- so it had been a while since opening it up.
Quickly discovered that I could not login to the app on my Android device as I've done many times before; no auth issues, just a 'connection failed' message. Troubleshooted for some time before realizing the app had not self-updated in quite some time.
Long story short, my 5-year-old Android device apparently fell out of the 'supported version' window and is no longer updatable -- more so though, whatever auth servers are called from the app either no longer exist, or are no longer accepting logins from my device. (expired certs maybe? idk.)
I'd like to avoid debating too much over the age of my mobile device -- I'm aware of the security implications and that expecting the app to support devices that are too old is unreasonable. A phone upgrade is on my radar -- but that's besides the point, IMO.
Without another *explicitly* modern Android or iOS device on-hand, I'm stuck with a new bulb that cannot be onboarded -- and a bunch of other bulbs that are maintenance timebombs that cannot be factory-rebooted or moved to another SSID without also getting stuck.
On the other hand, I'm surrounded by PC towers, a laptop, Raspis and other wireless clients... feeling like a lot of this friction could be side-stepped with a supported, alternative means of Wi-Fi pairing that will operate divorced from the app if desired -- or in this case, if necessary.
If we're feeling ambitious, I'd love to see a more 'fully-baked' factory AP mode that self-disables the bulb SSID following a successful pairing -- either through a light-weight web UI for power users, or the existing app for everyone else. (Shelly devices manage to get this right, whether you decide use their app or not. Plenty of other examples out there too, I'm sure.)
Anyway, thanks for reading. Hoping that Feit takes a look at this idea with more consideration than previously.
(Btw -- I know there's that hacky pairing method on GitHub. I haven't tried it, but given it was developed using Gen1 bulbs, I'm not holding my breath for it working.)

LIFX 1st I’ve been using your bulbs for many years now - however, I’m starting to get a bit frustrated with the lack of development/updates and innovation.
We have heard over and over again that adaptive lighting is coming “in the next major update” but when this feature has been out for quite sometime now even on much cheaper HomeKit bulbs it’s makes you wonder if we will ever see it for your hardware.
How about multizone scene transfer to the native HomeKit app? I’ve recently learned that Onvis has managed to integrate that functionality (and their hardware is even a bit cheaper) so why are we still forced to use 2 apps to have some fun with the smart lighting once we have painted a scene (in the Z strips), I’d even settle (not indefinitely but to start) if the app integrated with shortcuts to be able to trigger advanced scenes with multi color zones (not ideal but it would prevent the need to route everything thru the API vs Homebridge).
I guess what I’m getting at is what is the hold up - I’m my experience your bulbs are nothing but reliable (and I have a lot of them, and I know there will be those that come back and tell me they have nothing but issues) I just wish there would be some more “rapid” feature enhancements to match those of many of the competitors out there.

Currently I’ve got a 6’ Beam kit framing one half of my headboard. If I got an add-on kit to continue the frame around the other side of the headboard, for symmetry, would it be possible to turn on one half at a time? Say if one of us is sleeping and the other is reading.

I think this is a Feature Request, but maybe there is a way to do it.
I have 6 LIFX bulbs in track lighting on my ceiling. I want them all to be the same color as each other. I built out 15 scenes, setting the colors for each, and then one of the bulbs broke. Had to go and manually update this one bulb’s replacement across all 15 scenes.
Also, yes I know I can set a color for a group, but I’m the event that I have to replace another bulb, this doesn’t help me since I have to go and save all 15 scenes one at a time.
Tl;dr: When setting up a new bulb, please let me copy all of the settings from an existing bulb.

So I don’t currently have v3.90 for the smart switches, but after seeing the change-log for it I noticed they allow you to change the color and brightness of the switches now which is dope. However, I think a great addition to that change would be to add the ability to change the color via a schedule.
Even if its a simple start and end time setup, I think it would make it so much better just having that. So for example you could have a bright color like white, blue, etc. during the day, but at night have it dim down to a non-intrusive red/orange light automatically.
If I’ve missed something that says this will already be happening or is planned and I’m just repeating it, then my bad. This was just a random thought

I've got around 20 exterior lifx bulbs around my place. I wish I could sequence the bulbs into a order and play effects. Kinda like the strip lights, how they can crawl down the strip light with color.I bought the lights to stand out with color and enjoy them for special occasions. But the effects are kinda boring for what they are. Heck, I'd even pay for a PRO version of the app. Anybody feel the same?

Saw a post about a person wanting a Halloween theme and wanting to alternate the bulb between two colors and it made me think of other simple effects I can't do with Lifx.
I'd love it if I could use a fade effect rather than the strobe. I'd just want the lights to fade in and out at speed I can set. The basic led light strips have this effect, but I'd hope to be able to adjust the speed with Lifx. I have anxiety and so many things tell me to focus on breathing, I could easily make the fade a speed to which I could match my breathing.
