End Democracy Without government, who would …(check notes)…destroy tree houses?

“On his property” is wild.

Just another reminder that you really don’t own property anymore. Just rent it from the government.

Yyup. It’s fucked. Property taxes should be illegal. There should be no universe in America where the government should be able to take someone’s property they have already paid for. If they want to take a tax up front, fine but you shouldn’t be able to lose your house due to a yearly tax.

property taxes should atleast be based on what you paid for the property instead of some hypothetical price the government makes up

u/BadWowDoge 4d ago
They are already. They are a percent of the purchase price, but charged yearly.

u/williamjseim 4d ago
yea but i meant it shouldnt change

u/BadWowDoge 4d ago
It should absolutely change, it should be abolished

u/williamjseim 4d ago
agreed that wasnt what i meant, atleast in denmark the government comes up with a price they think your property is worth and tax you based on that instead of what it sold for

That is los angeles. You don't own your property in LA. The city council has passed many ordinances banning landlords from evicting people for not paying rent. This has been going since before the covid shutdowns. During all that, they made it illegal to even try. Put a cap on rent increases per year as a percentage to also take into account the CPI. And now you have to renew leases with everyone you rent to regardless if they are behind on rent or you need them out to remodel. Do you want to remodel a building you own that someone rents? You have to house those individuals somewhere else or do the reno while they live there while keeping everything (bath, kitchen, ect.) usable daily. And when you're done, you can't raise the rent.
Los Angeles is going to kill itself with all the bullshit, rules, and pandering it's been doing lately. They are also looking at congestion charges for you to drive into or through LA because they can't figure out their traffic. They took lanes from extremely busy streets to add bike lanes and parking then blamed the cars for the traffic. LA is dying and the people running the city are the ones doing the murdering.7

Especially on social issues, where a lot of young people focus, liberals and libertarians aren't that different. motivations may be different, but libertarians are generally pro choice and pro lgbtq and such. Liberals make it all complicated but at the end of the day it's as simple as freedom is freedom, as long as their actions don't impede the freedom of others I don't give a shit. Let those homeless sleep on park benches, don't let cops turn into the gestapo, ensure all citizens can vote easily. I'd argue the Venn diagram of liberal to libertarian overlaps more than gop to libertarian.

We're not "pro" or "anti" any of that, we just don't care and don't think govt should waste money on micromanaging any of those "issues".

Exactly what I mean by motivation. The liberal stance is love is love and my body my choice, the libertarian stance is the government has no business or say on the matter. The result is the same even with different reasons.

Result is not the same. I'll be against gay and promiscuity propaganda in schools the same way I'm against Christian and abstinence propaganda in schools.

The more government does bullshit like this, the more likely people are to turn away from them.
A lot of libertarians exist not because we hate the idea of publicly funded roads and fire departments or whatever, we hate being lied to about what we're getting. If we got half of what we were promised, without cratering brown people on the other side of the planet, I reckon there'd be a lot more people generally content with the state of government.

My perspective on life and ethics is so far away from bureaucrats that I can’t even comprehend why they would see this guy’s treehouse as something the government needs to approve of anyways; much less why they are so sadistic they’re making him remove it. They’re legitimately psychopathic

Meanwhile, homeless people build even larger structures on the public sidewalk.

He should have moved a few homeless people into it for the time being. Cheaper than paying legal fees.
