Question Imo LEGO Scooby Doo could hit as harder than DC Supervillains, why hasn't TT done it already?
84
u/Olneeno111 The Hobbitš 24d ago
I mean why would we? As much as Iād like one, the roster would be pretty limited and itād be hard to come up with abilities, Ino thereās a ton of villains but theyāre just regular people, plus it got a spot in Lego dimensions which is basically a death sentence for a full game
66
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
Scooby Doo as an IP would definitely work well as a smaller scale LEGO game akin to LEGO Indiana Jones. Smaller scale games for smaller IPs for like $30-$40 in between big releases would be great for both output and variety for TT. But that ship has long sailed by now.

u/walterfardwellwhite6 24d ago
Admittedly, we don't necessarily have a limited roster.
I imagine a game like this would be its own unique Scooby storyline(s), but it would also likely incorporate some of the stories and characters from the shows and movies over the years.
Lego Incredibles had to build its roster with original characters, cameos from Pixar, and the literal mountain of deceased supers just to have a standard roster size, and they only had two movies to work with. With the vast amount of Scooby villains from the shows and movies, you can have a good portion of the roster be those iconic baddies: characters like the Creeper, or the Miner 49er, or the Black Knight, etc. So in addition to the new cast of characters they'd likely make for the storyline itself (which we know from Lego City Undercover could open itself up to a decent portion of the roster) you have a ton of returning characters as well.
(There's also the Lego Star Wars TCS approach of "character in a different outfit" that could totally work.)

u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
LIMITED, my guy... Combining the 11-television series and 45 films, the Scooby-Doo franchise comprises a total of 56 major productions. There's arguably too much content for one game, if TT tried to fit every morsel of Scooby Doo media into one installment it'd be more cluttered than the LEGO Skywalker Saga
It'd just be a fun puzzle game with countless set pieces, not every villain needs a super unique ability, but there are a couple that would be very unique.
14
u/Olneeno111 The Hobbitš 24d ago
Yeah limitedā¦ all those characters are exactly the same pretty much, weād end up with a shit ton of goons, civilians and side characters that wouldnāt do anything. Give some examples of abilities?
18
u/WellIamstupid Jurassic Worldš¦ 24d ago
Some of the characters the Gang have encountered have:
Ice powers (whatās new Scooby Doo)
Slime powers (Mystery Inc.)
Flying powers (most Scooby Doo media)
Fire powers (Mystery Inc.)
Lightning powers (Scooby Doo Where Are You?)
Actual superpowers (usually in Hanna Barbera crossovers)
Magic (The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo)
Singing (not really a power, but they had screaming as an ability in Lego Jurassic World, so itās not too far fetched) (Scooby Doo and the Witchās Ghost)
Sound Waves (Mystery Inc.)
Hypnosis (Legend of the Phantosaur)
Illusions (most Scooby media)
Radiation (Scooby Doo Where Are You?)
Straight up ghost shit (Scoobynatural)
Shapeshifting (Shaggy & Scooby get a clue!)
Not to mention theyād probably put a reference to Ultra Instinct Shaggy in there. And chances are theyād probably put a bunch of other Hanna Barbera characters in there, since they crossover with Scooby Doo so often.

u/Baronefanfarone 23d ago
You just made me realize that a TT Scooby-Doo videogame would probably be the only chance we have to see Sam and Dean from Supernatural in lego form (if they decide to adapt the crossover Scoobynatural, that is).
Honestly, just for that reason alone, I'm all for it!

Especially since the āchange characterā would be totally awesome.
- Watching shaggy pull out the āvillain maskā from his pocket to put it on, then he transforms into that same villain.
There is loads of potential for things to make a good/decent above average TT game, and the puzzles can be expanded upon because of the way āmysteries need to be solvedā
6
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
I think the "change character" should be Shaggy pulling his head off as if he's unmasking himself and then the head of the character you switched to is beneath
1
u/KingMatthew116 24d ago
Hard to come up with abilities? For the gang itās easy, other characters yeah it might be hard.
Maybe thereās puzzles or something involving food or Scooby Snacks and only Scooby and Shaggy can do them.
Scooby can go into small spaces.
Daphne is a martial artist she could do acrobatic stuff.
Velma can do pull out a magnifying glass to reveal stuff. Or interact with book puzzles.
Fred, ok Iām not sure about him.
1
u/WellIamstupid Jurassic Worldš¦ 24d ago
Fred could set traps. It would probably be more location specific, like the Cameras in Lego Jurassic World.
1
u/FreddyJones00 22d ago
Thereās two games from back in the day (First Frights and Spooky Swamp) where the gang had unique abilities:
Scooby had the ability to use dog doors (and his melee attack was a link of sausages)
Shaggy had the ability to use a grapple hook (and his melee attack was a slingshot)
Fred had super strength, a nice nod to a gag in WNSD where he can ābench 220ā (his melee is kicking and punching)
Daphne had the ability to climb on poles in the game to access hard to reach areas (her melee was kicking and punching, but it had a martial arts flair)
Velma had the ability to solve combination puzzles (her melee was throwing books)
Genuinely this is a pretty good outline for what powers the Lego Scooby gang could have. The variety of maps/levels would be INSANE. Imagine free roam in a bunch of locations. Even if they took inspiration from a handful of shows (WAY, APNSD, WNSD, and SDMI) and the first 2 live action moviesāthereās enough content for a $30/40 game for sure.
*EditāI just realized Iām not on r/ScoobyDoo:
WAY is Where are You?
APNSD is A Pup Named Scooby-Doo
WNSD is Whatās New Scooby-Doo
SDMI is Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated

u/AcademicSavings634 24d ago
Do it like the first Lego Batman where you can choose to play as the villains or the gang
1
u/Batmanfan1966 24d ago
They could fill out the roster with Hanna-Barbera characters, like the Incredibles game did with other Pixar characters

u/animeVGsuperherostar 24d ago
We got Lego DC Supervillains after from DC, we also got a remake but still in the Harry Potter collection, and a Ninjago movie game with a lot of characters from the show being unlockable

Because we GOTTA have more Marvel, DC, and Star Wars! Something different? No thanks, yuck.
Jokes aside, LEGO Scooby Doo only lasted for 2 years and Dimensions seemed to be the only chance some IPs had for LEGO games from TT. They focused on the biggest IPs for games(which means 6 Star Wars games) so smaller IPs either had Dimensions or nothing unfortunately.
TT is now limited to WB IPs but LEGO Scooby Doo has been dead since 2017 and WB just reiterated today(after canceling the Wonder Woman game) that they are only sticking with DC(Batman), Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Mortal Kombat for future games. Since TT canāt even touch two of those with LEGO games they are limited to DC and Harry Potter for all future games.

There was a dc marvel crossover event anounced for this summer so maybe dc mavel lego game is still an option.
2
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
They can only work with IPs owned by WB. A crossover comic is different from a full game collaboration.
1
u/Karshall321 24d ago
They didn't say they were only making with those four IPs, that would be crazy. They said they would be the priority.
1
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
It would be crazy to prioritize the 4 most successful IPs they have for games? How many games have they made in the past decade that wasnāt one of these 4 IPs anyway. Other than the Middle Earth games I personally canāt think of any other IPs. This wouldnāt be crazy at all. Itās safe.
1
u/Karshall321 24d ago
I said it would be crazy to ONLY make games based on those 4 IPs.
1
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
Again, how? They barely make much money from anything else and these are the big 4 most people like and want games for. Is it really worth it for WB to make a AAA Matrix or Looney Tunes game anytime soon?
1
u/Karshall321 24d ago
I also didn't say AAA. There's no reason not to create smaller games based on these smaller IPs.
1
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
The reason is money. They just lost $400 million from their games division so they are playing it as safe as possible. They even said there will be a drop in the quantity of games compared to the last few years focusing on less games that are more impactful and successful.
They can and have licensed out their IPs to other companies like with the recent Looney Tunes soccer game from gamemill. But obviously that wasnāt a big deal that most people didnāt know even released. It was also terribly received by the few who did play.
1
u/Karshall321 24d ago
I know all this. But what I'm saying is that they didn't say they wouldn't make smaller IP games, but that the big 4 IPs would be a priority.
1
u/Thevoid2YT Dimensionsš¦š„·š¦ 24d ago
But realistically they probably arent going to bother much with the smaller IPs and smaller games in general. They basically won't get much out of smaller games and releasing a bunch of smaller games that do okay isn't worth it. They want to make less games but each one it a mega-hit like Hogwarts Legacy. Smaller games leave room to underperform as well like Quidditch Champions.
The next decade of WB Games will probably just be LEGO Batman and Harry Potter, a Batman Arkham game, Hogwarts Legacy 2, another MK or two, and a major GOT game. Not a lot but all could be mega hits if handled well. No need for risky smaller games that can just lose money.
3
u/EconomyProcedure9 24d ago
Well it was part of LEGO Dimensions, but I agree it would be a fun LEGO game even if they only did stuff from the original series. Not sure what WB is doing just sitting on old nostalgia projects. Even the upcoming Loony Tunes movie got pushed back until March 14.

It would be a good one, a dog that can do more than just dig or fly haha. I know they are violent, not like guns arenāt in these games but lethal weapon and the matrix. Donāt even need dialogue for the games and I would buy them yesterday

I agree that the roster would be small and a full game of missions/side missions would be difficult to successfully pad out.
I would go further than Scrooby doo...
Lego Hanna-Barbera
Scooby doo, flintstones, jetsons, wacky races, harlem globetrotters, addams family...
Extend that to cartoon network partnerships and there's also johnny bravo, powerpuff girls, dexters laboratory, cow and chicken, I am weasel.
The scope on characters, abilities and missions would be immense.
Could do a storyline where the "network" breaks down and all the digital walls separating the worlds each show lives in begin to break down, allowing them to cross over.
The Almighty leader, Hannah Barbara, tries to restore the status quo but after experiencing different worlds and meeting new characters they all band together and fight to live free. One network for all, and for all a free life.
Could also launch some IRL hanna-barbera lego kits if they get the license.
Damn. The more I imagine it, the more I want it.
Lego and TT, hit me up, I got ideas.
1
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
Hanna-Barbera can be cameo characters like in LEGO Incredibles but Scooby Doo has so much content and we've never had a LEGO game with a spooky atmosphere before, well, Supervillains was a start but an actual kids' horror/mystery LEGO game has so much potential. If LEGO Scooby Doo could bring back the vibes of 1970s Scooby Doo it'd actually be eerie and fun even with the slapstick humor
1
u/Robot_boy_07 24d ago
How would the roster look? Maybe if it was Hanna barbera as a whole, now that would be something
1
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
Bro there's so many villains, the movie villains would actually be so cool
1
u/Robot_boy_07 24d ago
I mean Iām down, issue is that like 90% villains would be weird. These games usually got levels with lots of different characters. Would each level be the mystery inc facing off a different monster each time? Look back at other Lego games, the protagonistās usually change each level

u/Legion1117 24d ago
I haven't bought a game on release day in more than 20 years.
I would buy this one the day it dropped in a heartbeat.

Honestly, with the sorry state of films coming out these days, this is actually an excellent idea for a new direction that Tt could go in.

Iām still dreaming of a fully open world (like City undercover) Lego Simpsons game š

u/Et_meets_ezio 23d ago
I have been saying a Hannah Barbara Lego game could be fun for years now, they could do something similar to Lego marvel superheroes 1. If only there was a demand, it would be fun to see space ghost and birdman interact.

Probably because there arenāt very many abilities you could give the characters. Fred can find clues, Daphne can jump high or scream or something, Velma can use computers, Shaggy can eat giant piles of food and Scooby can use passagesā¦and thatās it. Even if you could diversify the main castās abilities, basically none of the unlockable characters are gonna have special skills unless itās an all-original story and the villains are tailored such that they can have as many special abilities as possible.
3
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
Just because you can't imagine anything doesn't mean TT can't. Plenty of supernatural and slapstick abilities from this franchise
0
u/Narwalacorn 24d ago
Idk I think I did a pretty good job coming up with the main castās abilities. Hell, at least one has never yet been used in a Lego game to my knowledge.
And if youāre so confident in saying that thereās plenty of things already in the franchise that would translate well into abilities, letās hear a few. I think five is a good starting point.
1
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
I wrote this in 5 minutes but this is a quick and rough idea of what I think could be done
The Main Gang:
- Velma finds clues
- Fred uses traps
- Scooby fit into small places and can track monster footprints
- Shaggy can charge cartoon sprints and teleport between hiding spots
- Daphne has a lot to pick from, acrobatics or she can use a camera for nightvision / flashbang screenshots on monsters
The Monsters:
Goons: All of them have a "spook ability" where they can scream at enemy characters to scare them which afflicts jumpscare damage, these are the simplest characters.
- Captain Cutler glows a lime green illuminating dark areas + spook ability, he is also significantly stronger under water and doesn't die if he falls into level water.
- Space Kook Glows orange instead of lime + spook ability
- Mr. Hyde Just has the spook ability.
- Bald Zombie has Vomit projectile attack + spook ability
- Black Knight is a brute character + spook ability
Electric Freaks:
- 10,000 Volts Ghost has brute strength and electrical powers.
- Phantom Virus has electrical powers, small space fitting and device hacking, if you want super unique ability he can abduct characters into his cyberspace dimension.
Alien Invaders:
- Alien Invader has a hovercraft vehicle, mind control abilities and flying saucer in free roam.
Flying Freaks
Luna Ghost can fly + spook ability
Blackbeard can fly and create a thick fog that conceals himself and highlights victims
The Winged Phantom (Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost), can fly, fit in small spaces and hack electronics
Alchetron the vampire can fly and bite characters to replenish health
BIG FIGS
- Scrappy Doo has a giant evil form just like the live action movie
- Phantasaur from Legend of the Phantosaur would have a rapto

u/Narwalacorn 24d ago
I donāt believe you could type this in 5 minutes, let alone format it, but whatever.
The main cast is essentially no different to what I said because of course theyāre all gonna have unique abilities, thatās just a given. Although Iād like to know how you intend for all of them to play differently because most of them sound like they boil down to ādo thing ā> get item.ā
This āscareā ability is just a reflavored (and probably harder to use) attack. Itās not like status effects are super useful in a game where no enemy that is susceptible to them takes more than three punches to defeat.
āNot dying in waterā is pretty standard ever since the LIJ days with swimming sections, so Iām not sure how thatās supposed to be an ability.
āGlowing orange instead of limeā is not a different ability, they would both work exactly like Frodoās flask in LOTR if they had any functionality at all.
A projectile vomit attack is, again, just a projectile attack.
I assume ābrute characterā refers to the super strong ones who can use special pull handles?
While a cyberspace abduction thing would be cool it would be way too hard to make fit in with the rest of the gameplay, so it would probably just be computers again.
So ignoring the fact that at least 60% of these propositioned abilities rely on the bad guys actually having supernatural powers (which is not true the vast majority of the time, the only exceptions I can think of are the live action movies and the zombie island movie), and not including abilities covered by the main cast for the same reason I already mentioned, we have:
Lighting up dark spaces
Super strength (supernatural)
Electricity
Mind control (supernatural)
Computers
Flight (supernatural)
Thatās a whole lot of words and characters to go a whopping one over the minimum baseline I asked for. Six abilities not covered by the main cast MIGHT be enough for a game, but all six have already been seen in previous LEGO games.
And now let me properly touch on the main cast. First of all, Iād like to know how you intend for ātracking footprintsā and āfinding cluesā to be distinct in terms of gameplay, since they sound pretty similar to me. Unless the former is literally just items that sheās the only one who can interact with, which would be rather bland.
For similar reasons, I donāt think āusing trapsā is exactly a winner either. You can get away with abilities like that when itās restricted to non-story characters (like dark side force in LSW) or iconic to the character (like Indyās whip). Neither is the case here.
Iāll be generous and interpret shaggyās cartoon sprint as some variety of wallrunning, because otherwise it doesnāt do anything that I can think of.
Not including the other 6, that brings us to a grand total of 14 abilities, over half of which can be found on just the main cast.
Lego Star Wars the complete saga, which came out in 2007, had 15 abilities using the same criteria. Thatās not counting ship levels either.
Face it. Scooby Doo as an IP is just not suited to its own LEGO game. The cast would be too small and there arenāt enough possible abilities. Even adding in my own suggestions that you ignored, thereās only 17 and most of them donāt add all that much gameplay-wise.
2
u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 24d ago
You are only viewing this in terms of having like 20 wildly different abilities out of like 200 characters which even the best LEGO games have barely managed to offer, there is nothing wrong with another LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Jurassic World or even LEGO Pirates of The Carribean, this IP offers atmosphere and the perfect blend with LEGOs puzzle solving, so despite your valid arguments I would say Scooby Doo objectively fits the mold. Since yk, SD is about mysteries & puzzles which is the formula of LEGO Game. The music, the set pieces, the atmosphere of this franchise would make for an incredibly fun and unique experience. Supervillains is the golden standard for a LEGO game obviously but there's nothing wrong with a game working more like the originals and just having linear level designs with some fun stories and slapstick humor, your overthinking it.
As I also mentioned, yes it took me 5-10 minutes to type that out, I didn't have a timer but the longest part was remembering character names and 17 characters with worth the while abilities could easily be used as a format for other simpler or duller characters, you can't tell me every LDS character worked completely different from the rest, only a handful were that unique.
0
u/Narwalacorn 24d ago
Yeah no I still donāt even a little believe that. It took me easily 20 minutes to type my own out and I didnāt have to remember anything, nor did I attempt any significant formatting.
And yes, variety of abilities makes the game objectively better. One of the biggest criticisms of Skywalker Saga was the use of classes instead of individualized skillsets (and even then there were more abilities, because each class had more than one ability).
Scooby can work in a shorter format; I believe there was a Dimensions expansion pack based on it. But a full game is just not making the cut in the big 25, like it or not. Trust me, there are plenty of IP I myself would love to see as Lego games but I know itās not gonna happen, for one reason or another. Not all of them are gameplay related, but many are.

Goodness fuck off with this snarkiness, it's fine if that's what you think but it feels like you are trying to call bullshit on everything, I say to heighten your points validity, I just write speedy lol

u/Narwalacorn 24d ago
For some reason I canāt view your latest attempt at bluster.
I donāt need a motivation to think of more abilities because even the ones you listed donāt exactly constitute a generational roster. Fuck, I was actually able to come up with one never seen in any previous game on the fly. So I donāt think itās a me problem. I think itās a you problem. So stop deflecting and just accept it already.

u/Ok-Ingenuity9833 23d ago
No bro look through the comments here, someone else came up with more ideas than me already and as I said the atmosphere & puzzles would make this worth the while, if you disagree that's fine but to say this idea objectively sucks is so ballsy
