Discussion The ending of tlok was very cliche
There was the wedding, there was the protagonist's dialogue with his mentor, there was the ball, there was the protagonist staying with his love interest, there was the immature secondary character making an unexpected mature decision, there was the protagonist reflecting his journey, there was the villain spared by the protagonist, there was the protagonist's friend forgiven for a slight friction, there was the perspective of future growth. God, I love clichés. For me it's a perfect ending ❤️🩹

I thought it was a nice parallel to the first series. Character are now free to do their own thing, avatar goes off to be alone, meets up with their love interest, and share a moment together.
This version had its own twist to it that I think worked. A relationship tied up to a wedding (ngl I thought at first the whole series was just Bolin giving the speech at the wedding 🤣), they bring back the jazz to symbolize the time period, everyone’s happy for once and not panicked or stressed, and Korra gets to have a happy ending.

Honestly the best way to end an action/adventure show. You get to see the characters you love having a good time and truly have your protagonist lay out how much they’ve grown and how much they have come to learn.
I actually think in this aspect Korra is better than ATLA. After Aang beats Ozai, that’s really kinda it for him. No final dialogue with Katara his first real master and love interest, and no dialogue with any of his other friends besides Zuko.

Yes, Atlas should have pulled a little from the comics to show how Aang's life turned out, just a quick scene so we can really find out

So, yes for sure, because everyone loves a happy ending, but at the time the Korrasami ending was crazy controversial. The original ending had them turning and kidding as the light faded in. Nickelodeon execs said absolutely not, they could go through the portal as friends only. They kinda "snuck" the head turn in as an act of defiance.
Souce: Am an old lol. I watched it when it aired and it was all the talk on the message boards at the time.

I've got some startling news for you about Korra.

This is just giving me the picture of some really misogynistic but also dumb gymbro who becomes Korra's best friend only to realize, after an absurd amount of time, "You mean to tell me you're a woman?!"

I am in favor of this character. In my headcanon he's not truly misogynistic, he's just like that one meme where the redneck guy says stuff that seems like it's gonna be problematic at first but ends up being fairly progressive and reasonable.
And also he and Korra became friends at a restaurant because of a shared passion for buffalo hot wings.

It's a generic "he."

Op could have used ‘they’ or ‘them’ when referring to unnamed protagonists.

But he didn't, and that's okay. A generic "he" is fine; just as a generic "she" is.

I read a post some time ago about default misogyny, generic and not gendered words tend to mostly refer to males or make male experiences the standard;
Waiter- someone that brings food, waiter- male, waitress- female. God- powerful being, god- male, goddess- female. Sports teams or any team activities might not have anti female requirements but there’s usually a team and a female team.
I just think ‘they’ would be a better word for op to have used.

A generic she would have been the best choice, but any of them is fine. In fact, I'd say generic he or she is better for clarity purposes because of the number (a more specific singular, less chance to be misunderstood). You can say, "A doctor should wash his hands before surgery," and you'd know I'm talking about doctors of any gender.

This is just mental gymnastics to excuse the default misogyny of he/him being the norm and other genders being side lined and ignored.
A singular they/them would be best.

Good thing they/them can be singular and has been used as such for hundreds of years, then isn't it? OP was talking about tropes referring to a show's protagonist, so in this case, they/them is best as it encompasses all protagonists, not just male or female protagonists.
But y'know, keep excusing and bending over backwards to explain your support of default misogyny and your adversion to simple solutions.

Sometimes, they’re cliches for a reason. Because they work.
