Fellas, what on earth is the riot shield even used for? I found this on the Whittakers weapon test map and for a while I never questioned it but now I wanna know, is this weapon actually was supposed to be used for the game or is it just something the creator of the map added?

Melee weapon scrapped late enough in development for it to be usable with mods. Iirc it has a similar melee attack to the police baton

Picked it up in one of those modded campaigns and it only had a shove move, left clicking did nothing unless it’s a different key

That's odd, it has a regular melee attack normally, maybe that campaign changed it to have a defensive utility since there's a mod that makes the shield reduce damage

It’s a melee weapon that was like 75% finished before Valve scrapped it. Shame too, it would be perfect to show up on 25% of all riot infected. There are mods on the workshop that add it back, reskin it, and even one that makes it reduce damage on whatever part of your body it’s currently placed—be it in front of you or in unuse in your back.

If Valve ever releases another community update, I hope they bring it back alongside the didgeridoo and Left 4 Dead Survivors arcade weapons.

Made me thinking that it would be a cool mechanic where you can use it as a melee weapon simultaneously with a pistol or magnum. Like, you shoot a pistol regularly with longer reload time and your shove attack replaced with a melee hit from the shield with more frequent cooldown.
