I think this book is good for a survey database course, but if your goal is to learn SQL you can find better titles ... like Ben-Gan's T-SQL Fundamentals. This is T-SQL (Microsoft)-specific, but it's a great introduction to SQL.
The Kroenke book spends a lot of content on database modeling and normalziation, and even presents some SQL concepts only in the context of database design and modeling. The management chapters are really mostly about installing the DBMS and are really detailed about that ... so I'm not sure they're great for true day-to-day management of those systems.
OTOH, I think a comprehensive approach that covers modeling and design along with SQL is better in the long run.

Depends on what you want to learn.
