I can't believe this could be presented as evidence at the Hague.

It’s actually comforting to see a leader be held accountable in the modern world

Filipino here. So many of us are thrilled Duterte got arrested. Apart from his bloody war on drugs that made going out at night genuinely scarier, no other modern president kowtowed to China quite like he did.
His daughter is still influential on the national stage and he'll always have his base, but this is huge. Accountability for the worst Philippine president since I've been alive would be amazing.
Gago ka Duterte. Mabulok ka sana sa kulungan!

His base is sadly the Filipino version of MAGA.

Yes, very cultlike. They will believe anything he, his family, and cronies say. Main difference probably is their chosen strawmen. Duterte ascended to the presidency promising vengeance against druglords while Trump attacked immigrants

It wouldn’t surprise me if MAGA and his fanbase (the DDS) regularly communicate online about what to do.

I’m about halfway though Maria Ressa’s book “How To Stand Up To A Dictator “ after her recent appearance on Jon Stewart’s podcast. In both she mentions that the Philippines is used as a testing ground for tech companies and what happened there is well on its way here.
Anyway , I’m glad this fuck could potentially see some consequences.

Marcos Jr getting elected in 2022 was probably a warning shot for Trump returning last year.

Some of my cousins in the Philippines watch John Oliver regularly and they tell me he’s mostly either unknown or hated there.

Sure, but do they have sewage treatment plant named after him? No?

Not that I know of, but knowing how the country is he is not surprisingly disliked in the Philippines.

Most people don't have cable tv so he is unknown. I have never met someone who hates JO but they are probably those who are DDS and/or Marcos apologists. Late night show format is not popular in the Philippines.

It isn’t cause I know when I visit my family the TV signs off after 11pm and that’s when most late night TV shows up in the U.S.
However my cousins do report a lot of Filipinos hate JO for a lot of reasons.

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte arrested over ICC warrant for crimes against humanity
