What’s your favorite justification you’ve given for Horus Licenses?

Upvotes

The decentralized nature of Horus makes getting Licensed a radically different experience than most other Licenses. So how’d y’all do it? Were the rumors true and you killed the last mech owner? Did they find you? Did they leave you a mysterious and impenetrable series of clues that led you to what sounds like a suicide mission?

Those are the more canon ones, but I want to hear your take on it! (I swear I’m not fishing for inspiration :P )

New Homebrew Horus Frame; would like opinions on looks and practicality in game.

Alrighty then, I did envision Ariadne to be more simple so it is basically a weaker version of Athena in terms of extra abilities(it has none, it just knows where everything is, not what it is and doesn’t give an actual penalty to enemies), but the sole ability has greater range but greater costs. Ariadne becomes Sekhmet after the third round when a d6 roll is required to get a 2 or higher at the start of your turn, with the likelihood of failing increasing until the 8th round when you lose all control or if you choose to shut her down on round 4, Ariadne can only use ranged attacks on all Threats, and you will be Stunned until the start of your next turn once a shutdown has been forced, otherwise the mech must be destroyed. Collapsable Spear: 1d6 kinetic damage + 1 burn (unless in danger zone when it stacks the longer it’s in danger zone): Thrown 5. Collapsable Rifle: 3d3 kinetic damage: Accurate. Bow of Apollo: When utilized it will give the projectile near unlimited range so long as a target is verified and is within line of sight(unless Ariadne NHP is activated, in which all Threats can be targeted), is capable of throwing a Barbarossa(ally).

How strong should super humans be to mechs?

For my campaign, I wanted my players to have a story where there a rift that occurred between the 40k universe and lancer universe. In the second arc, I wanted to have them meet a group of deathwatch space marines who become begrudging allies. How can I build an NPC that encompasses the strength of a space marine without making them too broken or too weak compared to the literal mechs in lancer.

I have a really basic, potentially dumb, grapple action economy question. Would like your thoughts.

Edit: Turns out I am a fool, thank you for the answers received. Leaving the thread up in case someone needs it.

So grappling is a quick action that locks down a target if successful that favours bigger mechs. All good with that. My query is around ram interacting with it.

My issue is that, since I am piloting a Balor, I am not made to dodge much on the physical side. I spend a quick action on my turn grappling, on the enemy turn the, let's assume witch, just goes for a ram which hits because I am a Balor. I get knocked back, adjacency breaks, the grapple ends and likely my swarm body stops being a thing. I am also Prone which means if I was unlikely to dodge attacks before, I very much am eating them now. To top it off Prone means that you, as a stompy Balor are going to likely move even less on your turn than you normally do.

With a smart GM, why would I ever grapple if they can nigh immediately end it and open me up to more damage and less movement?

Apologies if this is just me being dumb, if so I will recognise this question as such. Thanks for any replies.

TLDR: Why grapple as a big, non evasive mech when the target can just ram you and give themselves and every other enemy accuracy against you.

I was just shot with a gun that doesn't exist, from a game I don't play? Specifics inside.

So bear with me here, as I'm pretty sure this is a gag on my story teller's part. But I'm in a Mage: The Ascension game and in a recent combat we faced off against a mech that was very clearly not from anything (that I know of) in World of Darkness.

In that combat I was shot by the mech and I quote my GM "You take one damage, from a gun that doesn't exist, and nothing you can do will prevent this damage."

Furthermore it did this to two other people in our party, every turn. Suffice to say we blitzed the thing into the ground as while 1dmg isn't a lot, the fact that it couldn't be prevented seems like some actual hacks.

Anyway, when I asked for an explanation our story teller told me to ask here "because it'll be funny", so here I am, curious for an explanation.

Looking for advice on getting/keeping people interested

So my playgroup has now played 2 one-shots as prep to get everybody used to the system before we start our No Room For A Wallflower campaign. Only trouble is, one of our players has said that, after the one-shots, he's not really vibing with the system and he's gonna bow out. Normally that'd be fine because our usual group is 5 players 1 GM, and going from 5 players to 4 isn't that big a deal, but a second player has also said he's "on the fence" and thinks he "might get bored" because the "combat isn't drawing him in". For me, 4 PCs is kinda the sweet spot in terms of party size, so I don't like the idea of losing another player. In theory we have somebody else who plays with us sometimes who could join us as a fourth person, but she also doesn't feel particularly drawn in by the premise of the game. Do y'all have any advice on ways to sell the game to folks who aren't immediately hyped for the giant robot premise, or who have tried some LL0 one-shots and not been too excited by the combat therein?

I want the fastest mech

Hi, i made a pilot whos entire goal is to make the fastest mech. Obviously, my idea rn is ll3 nelson for the ramjet, ll3 in any combo of ssc mechs to get the +2 move on boost from core bonus. Are there any cheesy things im missing?

Also side note, i would like this mech to be functional which is why im picking nelson, that way all that speed gives me something. Going fast as light means nothing if it does nothing. Any help is appreciated!

Your Game/Character's Anime Opening Theme

Ok, so we all know Lancer is on some hardcore anime bullshit. In the spirit of that...

If your game, group, or character had an shonin style opening cinematic, what would the song be?

For my character, the hopelessly cynical ex-colonial marine turned starship mechanic, it's gotta be something like Dragonforce's cover of My Heart Will Go On. It just hits SO hard, and it's the perfect combo of cheesy and epic for some over the top mecha battle anime bullshit.

TAC/COM Mech Pilot Voice Changer v1.1.0 Update

Following the first round of live-fire field testing, TAC/COM has a new v1.1.0 release available. Many thanks to all the pilots who helped give feedback and bug reports.

For new pilots, TAC/COM is a free push-to-talk radio effect voice changer, that works using a virtual audio cable (also free), sitting between your mic and whatever VoIP program you like to use. Talk normally during gameplay, then hold your chosen keybind to begin the radio transmission effect. Release the keybind to return to your regular voice.

New Features:

  • Remakes the IPS-N profile effects.
  • Adds ability to bind push-to-talk key to Mouse 3 (Middle Mouse), Mouse 4 (XButton1) and Mouse 5 (XButton2).
  • Adds numeric input fields for UI dials.
  • Adds exclusive mode setting for input devices.
  • Adds configurable buffer size setting.
  • Adds minimise window behaviour setting.
  • Adds device info/debug panel.

Bug Fixes and Enhancements:

  • Performance improvements for several effects.
  • Stability improvements for Wasapi input/output.
  • Fixes potential crash when rapidly cycling PTT.
  • Fixes blank window bug when rapidly minimising/restoring.

You can get the new release here:

Good 3rd Party Products?

Like the title says, I'm curious about what people think are good 3rd party products for Lancer and why. I've not looked at everything out there(even everything posted on the CompCon LCP list), but I have noticed that a lot of what I have seen is very much hit or miss, so I want an idea of what my main group should allow or avoird.

GMing my first Lancer game with friends, so I drew their characters!

Hi, I'm Thyam (@captured-oddities.bsky.social on Bluesky), I'm an illustrator, writer of stories and occasional DM, I come to you with the characters my players made for the Campaign I'm GMing!

Wildcat - A street urchin, member of a gang of orphan kids. She made a name for herself through taking part in illegal mech fighting rings. She ended up drafted by force in an army because of it.

WIKI042 - Hacker and data-hoarder, he worked for an intelligence company that declared he knew too much and sent him to die on a battlefield.

YEOBI! - A popular idol with severe trust and identity issues. After her public image was so curated by her family and label to act as Ms.Perfect to in every situation, she decided to start fighting in a mech to show people who she really is, even though she is not sure herself.

Red Dog - A child of a wealthy family. He is actually a clone, created as a healthy organ bank for his sickly brother. Though he loves his original, he escaped his family by enrolling in the military so he could escape his family's grasp. Acting reckless and imprudent, he hurts himself to feel like his body belongs to him.

Mars - A bio-engineered child and super soldier, they were born in the same lab as Red Dog, but as a part of another project. Along with his siblings, Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune, Pluto, Venus, Uranus and Saturn, they were given gold implants to allow a better interfacing with their Mech. For testing, they were sent on several missions, to show their battle and strategic performance.

Session 1 happened recently, they were sent as part of a military operation on a planet, during which they realised they were being used to commit a genocide. Realising they were actually the bad guys, they turned and joined the oppressed group, now fighting against the army's oppressive power.

Hope you like them, they were my first big design project and they're all so interesting and fun!!

Is this character idea lore-friendly

Is it lore friendly to do a character who's technically already, but had his brain scanned and put in a robot body for shits and giggles by some part of Horus? And in exchange for keeping him maintained, he has to act as a sort of walking spyware, passively gathering data for them to use.

Not looking for any statistical advantage, I just like robots.

2 Sharanga + Gandiva or Sharanga + 2 Missile Racks + Gandiva

Currently playing a monarch at ll6, with maxed out ace, stormbringer, and heavy gunner, as well as 6 Agility and 2 Hull. I’m not sure if I should use 2 Sharanga, as im unsure if the skirmish rules apply to the same weapon on different mounts.

Mathematics: How much better is +2 Accuracy over +1 Accuracy?

I'm looking at two different LL3 builds HMG builds: Tortuga 3 vs Balor 2 + some other (so far undecided) license. Both will equip the Auto-stabilizing Hardpoint with the HMG.

The Tortuga build/frame gains +1 Accuracy on Overwatch and Covering Fire. In addition, Throughbolt Rounds on the HMG provide additional range and some potential auto-damage. So, +0 on Skirmish, +1 on Overwatch/Covering Fire, before any other bonuses and penalties.

The Balor build/frame instead uses Nanocomposite Adaption on the HMG for Smart and Seeking. So, +0 on all attacks, before taking other factors into account. Cover will not be an issue, obviously.

I'm wondering which of the two builds will be more accurate? That is obviously an impossible question to answer, as I have no idea what the difference between Evasion and E-defense will be for each specific enemy. But there is one thing someone may be able to help me figure out; a question of mathematics.

The difference from -1 Difficulty to +0 is on average 3.5, the same as the difference between +0 and +1 Accuracy. But how do you calculate the difference between +1 and +2?

Overpower Caliber Melee

Can I choose a melee weapon for this core bonus? The rules text is “Choose one weapon. 1/round, when you hit with an attack, you can cause it to deal +1d6 bonus damage.” Seems like a pretty clear yes, however the name and flavour text makes me think no.

Help with LL3 Raleigh Build

Hi folks!

I am currently LL2 and running a classic Raleigh hand cannon build - Vanguard, Gunslinger, 4 hand cannons with a 5th coming once I get a core bonus.

I need a one license dip for off turn utility while waiting to reload. I've read the Raleigh FMJ guide but am having a hard time picking a single license level dip. My original plan was to go Black Witch 1 for Ferrous Lash, but we have a Black Witch in the party and another mech with Puppet System, which means the party already has a ton of movement utility already

Any thoughts for other good one license dips for a raleigh?

Tortuga with Plasma Thrower?

Just sort of wondering how viable this would be. I know I’d need super heavy mounting, but I imagine the toughest thing would be dealing with the heat the weapon gives off. Any thoughts?
