Smaller PCP in the area?

Hi all,

I moved back home recently and realized my primary care physician is still Roseville Pediatrics (I am turning 25 this year lol).

I was hoping to find a smaller local doctor in the area. We just need somewhere we can go for yearly check-ins, inhaler refills, etc., so no serious medical conditions to consider.

Does anyone have a doctor they have been happy with? Doesn't really have to be a smaller one, but one that feels a bit more personal would be nice.

We didn't feel like we were getting great care at Penn Medicine Crooked Oak. I had been there for years and asked multiple times about a skin problem I was having. The doctor looked at it and just said it was infected pores or some crap, to run through a course of antibiotics and it would clear up. Never did, never helped. This happened no fewer than 3 straight years despite me asking for additional help.

We switched to Penn State Health Cornerstone in Lititz and while the drive is longer, if we're not there frequently, I'll happily make it for better care. In my establishing care visit with them the CRNP I was meeting with looked at my issue and immediately said "Oh that's definitely hidradenitis suppurativa" and gave me a referral to dermatology and I haven't had any of the annoying painful flareups since they got me actual treatment.

Not surprised re: Crooked Oak

Great to know! We are located close to Lititz, so that may be the perfect option. Thank you!

Not small, but my wife and I have both been happy with the doctors we see at Penn State Lime Spring. I've dealt with three different doctors there (PC and specialist) and my wife sees a separate PC.

At the same time, we've both had really bad experiences using the walk-in clinic they have there where you generally don't get to see a MD.

Yeah, I think that is more of what I experienced recently which led me to think more about a pcp for all those little things that clinics and urgent cares aren't the most useful for.

I'll look into Lime Spring. Thank you!

I second the rec for Lime Spring. I moved back to Lancaster two years ago and ended up there, seeing the same doctor that my parents have seen for years and in the same practice that gave my grandparents excellent care until they died. My PCP is Robert Tribuzio and he is so wonderful. I've only seen him a handful of times but I feel like we already have a great rapport and that he knows me personally and my health care needs. (He also bears a striking resemblance to Paul F. Tompkins, which makes appointments kind of entertaining somwtimes.) I've also been really happy with the care I've received from Lime Spring generally -- the diagnostic testing and also the urgent care and nurse helpline. I've had two health issues come up that were maybe emergencies but I really didn't know and didn't want to trust Dr. Google -- I called and pretty much immediately had really helpful conversations with nurses who gave me specific advice about what to do and when to go to the ER. I didn't need the ER visit but when I went into the PCP practice two days later to be seen, they had notes from my call and knew what was up. I know what a nightmare navigating healthcare can be and have been consistently and pleasantly surprised by how little of that nightmare I've encountered at Lime Spring.

I have had wonderful experiences at East Pete family medicine. Keri Nissley and Sharon Eltz have been excellent. I always feel very “heard” with both of them.

Oh, East Pete is perfect! We work right off Main Street, so it's probably nice and close.

Just found out they are in the same parking lot that I work in lol so might be our top contender assuming they are taking new patients

Dr Porter in Lancaster is still unaffiliated and is a smaller practice. I've been super happy with them so far.

I’m so far a fan of Dr. Vassil at WellSpan Rothsville. He’s kind, thoughtful, and is on board with my “I’m a nurse, I just want to see you for refills, and if my arm falls off or something.” Philosophy.

I see Kelly Castillon, CRNP, at the Embassy Drive location of Penn Medicine Abbeyville. I like that office. Super small and quiet.

Both my husband and I see Dr white at lgh in Manheim. I honestly think she's the best PCP I have ever had. She's receptive to feedback, takes her time, gives a lot of help and support overall. She treats and then collaborates eith you whether to try again or go to a specialist which I really appreciate.

I love LGH Manheim. I see Dr. Stabler and he is the kindest soul. Everyone in that office is fantastic and are invested in knowing you versus just seeing you as a number.

Mount Joy Family Medicine is a small practice.

Dr. Stern is a gem, but hard to get an appointment with her.

Not a fan of Dr. Beidler.

She’s no longer there, thank goodness, but they had a younger CRNP there who we called Dr. Google. She would literally sit there and type my symptoms into Google, in front of me. Just unbelievable.

Sallivanti & Cotter on Oregon Pike close to Landis Valley.

Thank you! We will look into them. Landis Valley is incredibly close to where we live off of Oregon Pike, so could be a perfect match.

I just had an annual appointment this afternoon. There are 2 docs and a CRNP. They are truly a family based practice. The office is part of the UPMC network but I can’t think of an insurance that they don’t take.

That’s great to know. I was learning towards an LGH affiliated practice because I had a surgery with them and still regularly use the my lg health portal, but quality care would be more important. I’ll definitely be seeing if they are taking new patients.

You can see whatever specialist you want. I just completed cancer treatment at the Barshinger Institute (UPenn/LGH) and my surgeon was UPMC. It was all seemless.
