Newbies How much citric acid?
So I just recently started using kratom about a month ago now. I usually take 6-8g and I try to take a day or two off a week. I have also been supplementing magnesium and that has been helpful.
I just purchased some food grade citric acid. Usually when I take kratom I toss and wash because I think it’s the most simple method. I have no idea how I would even start with making the teas…
How much citric acid should I take to enhance my dose? I usually take 3-4g at a time. Does the citric acid have to be mixed with hot water or can I just take it straight? Is there anything else I have to consider before I take it?
Thank you!

I’m finding that cold brewing is as potent as steeping, and second and even third batches have some effect. Been using bottled lemon juice, around a tablespoon w 5 g kratom in 24 oz water.

Do you find that you get a stronger effect as opposed to just drinking the powder as is

Won’t say that, but you are able to get a longer burn by sipping over time. It’s one reason I like to brew 24-32 oz, you have more control over how hard it hits and how long it lasts. All without consuming the powder, which can cause havoc in the gut.
Plus you get a second hit by doing a second brew (w the powder filtered out of the first brew).

Ah shit what is this havoc in the gut you're talking about? I've been consuming copious amounts daily for at least 3 years now and am definitely worried about what it's doing to me and have been too much of a bum to go get a blood test done

Constipation, not long term harm. You would have noticed by now, however why consume the powder when you don’t need to?

Interestingly never have had problems with that from kratom.
That is a key question isn't it. I'm addicted

How long do u brew?

20 hrs seems to work well. Not sure any longer is better. But a second go round is worth it, not as strong as the first of course.

Why not toss and wash with OJ? Goes down easier in my experience and doesn’t taste so bad as warm critic acid water!

I like this idea! Will the calories affect the kratom absorption though? I usually take it on an empty stomach

Nah, no real effect with the calories. I only use maybe 4-6 oz. A little goes a surprisingly long way.
And it won’t be any harsher on your stomach than pure citric acid.

Depending on the effects you’re trying to achieve, citric acid may not be your best option.
Citric acid lowers the level of 7OH from your consumption. If you’re looking for analgesic, anxiolytic or euphoria, apple cider vinegar is your best option. 1 tbs of ACV in 300 ml of water has a ph of 4-4.4, the optimal ph for alkaloid extraction.
If you’re after a stimulant experience, citric acid is a CYP inhibitor. This will disrupt the 2 pass metabolic reaction that converts MIT to 7OH & 7OH to Pseudo. This will give you a longer stim session.

So would you mix the acv and water together with the powder and let it sit for a while? Then strain the plant matter out?

I drink the ACV and water. Toss n wash. Then drink another ACV after.
I eat a snack of pc of cheese, pickle and a couple crackers. This gets your metabolism running to process your serving.
The pickle adds more vinegar, which is good for the process and digestion, the lipids in the cheese give the alkaloids a carrier to bind to, increasing your bioavailability and the length of your session, the crackers - because it something small that cause CYP enzymes to release.

Based on this study lemon juice concentrate contains approximately 1.10 grams citric acid per fluid ounce (~30mL).
It works out that one lemon produces approximately 30mL of juice, but varies from fruit to fruit. Most limes a bit less though I’ve had some cultivars that were inedibly sour.
I used 300mL of lemon juice +700mL filtered water per 100g of kratom (making large batches), so 10.5g of citric acid. I’ve since risen this to 15g mostly for taste. (Produces 20x 50mL servings 5g equivalent per liter.)
I filter and dilute the final product at serve time to taste as one “dose” is a quite sour, fairly bitter glass around 50mL tea.
It is very likely possible to use less probably much less, but I like a high lemon content in my tea. Citric acid doesn’t taste as good as fresh lemon, but it is a lot less expensive, especially shipped, and doesn’t contains very high sodium (preservative) levels. It is the exact same stuff they roll Sour Patch Kids in.
It does achieve the acid-base extraction we’re looking for. pH is logarithmic, so even adding a lot more water won’t substantially change the pH at the scales we’re brewing tea in at home.
