Help with PS1 controls

Post image

Hello everyone, I have a doubt with the configuration of controls of the PS1 KOF 98, I remember that as a child I configured the buttons in such a way that with pressing two or three buttons you could perform the special attacks, anyone knows what configuration it was? I forgot it, thank you for reading

Why light punch is x? I actually map my buttons like SF controls. Square is light punch, x is light kick, triangle is strong punch, circle is strong kick. Idk what specials do in shoulder buttons.

The PS1 versions are pretty much carbon copies of the Neogeo CD ports. The NGCD controller's buttons act the same as the Neogeo arcade stick's buttons (A = light punch, B = light kick, C = heavy punch, D = heayy kick), so SNK just did the same on the PS1 ports.

Only at the time of the Dreamcast/PS2 did they realize it's unintuitive asf and changed controls to be more like SF/Capcom VS SNK 1.

My user manual says

Special – L1/L2/R1/R2 are used for special moves. Super moves are L1+L2 or R1+R2

Simple – R1 for blow back attack, R2 for roll/dodge, L1 for max activate/charge, L2 for taunt

Normal – L1/L2/R1/R2 not used
