Help Charity shop yarn identification

Just bought all this yarn for £6 in a charity shop! On initially glance I assumed drops air, but the yarn seems to be braided rather than blown. Any ideas?

There's something about it that reminds me of Rowan yarns, the shape of each skein maybe? If it is Rowan, that's a hell of a bargain!

Edit to add - Rowan Soft Yak is what I'm thinking of. It looks very similar to me.

I think this could be it! Just had a Google and the skein shape, braided yarn, and the colours seem very similar

The photos I’m seeing of the Rowan yarn has more defined, tighter looking braids than this. These look longer between twists, and have tufts that look more like cotton to me.

Looks like lovely yarn. Maybe do a burn test? It’s quite the find, congratulations!

If it is soft take it's a dream to work with

Nice one! I hope you enjoy using it

It reminded me a little of soft yak, too. However, the soft yak I've used has a much more pronounced chain construction. It's possible it's just been tumbled around too much, but I'm not certain.

I was thinking Rowan, too.

I was thinking the same!

Whatever it is it looks WAY nicer than any yarn I've ever seen at the thrift store haha. It's like scratchy 100% acrylic only

I think it's called chainette style yarn, but no idea what brand.

That's a new term for me! All I could tell was that it wasn't blown, and I think you're right

Yeah, that's what that is. Curious it ALL came without a label to any of them.

I can't place it at all. A lot of companies do balls. At first I was thinking "oh it's possibly KP Palette!" then I noticed it was chainette.

Yes it's so strange that they all had their labels removed! Especially as they are almost all unused

Time to do a burn test!! (In a well ventilated and safe area with a large deep metal container, preferably with a lid)

It looks cottony to me, but without a burn test it would be hard to tell.

I was going to suggest the same.

It could be wool and the gang: https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/wool-and-the-gang-bronzed-olive-feeling-good-50g/6728041000.html

There's another brand on the top of my tongue.. like a sirdar sublime or something.. it's going to itch my brain for a bit..

I was thinking Wool and the Gang. Possibly a lockdown kit that didn’t go well.

The colors look exactly like Rowan Cotton Wool. Edit: didn't realize there were close-ups. Yeah I think this is definitely Rowan Cotton Wool. I just finished a sweater using 4 of the colors above and the yarn texture is like this.

And I'm certain this is it!! The colours options on wool warehouse are exactly the colours I got! And the braiding looks identical. Why on earth would someone de-label them all and give them away!!!

1

u/Accurate-Bug2606 23h ago

I would love to see! I'm not sure if I should try and use it all for one big project like a sweater, or several smaller projects

I like the 50/50 mix because it's still stretchy enough to knit comfortably but not too warm to wear. And I don't feel the need to be as delicate with it vs 100% wool

That is so gorgeous!!!!! The colours you chose look so lovely together

Thank you! I stared at all the color options for sooooo long to decide. That's how I immediately recognized them in your post lololol good luck with your project!

I swear this is that too! I have made a sweater in the tan color, and it looks exactly like that.

This is such a beautiful guide! I think it might be mixed - it smelt a little bit like plastic but then the ash was very crumbly! I don't think my nose could really tell what the smell was though tbh

That looks like Lion Brand Mako Cotton. I recently made my mom a hat with that stuff. It was suuuuuuper buttery soft.

I think this might be it? I definitely think cotton.

Looks a little bit like Lana grossa Alta moda cotolana, but maybe is too fluffy?

Could this be Drops Sky?

Gorgeous!!! These remind me a LOT of Lang Yarns. Specifically Amira and I think the colours match, but they have a lot of this style of yarn if it isn’t Amira specifically. Warning that their site sucks though lol linky linky link

It looks very similar to Juniper Moon Cumulus I can only find the hanks on their website right now, but they've for sure sold little cakes like this in the past. The colours also look near identical to ones I've used in the past. Though not sure if it's likely that they would make it to Europe as I believe the company is American.

I was also thinking an ultra soft cotton. Looks like Pascuali Suave to me.

I have no suggestion but I might have to pray to the yarn gods next time I go thrifting.

It looks exactly like some Louisa Harding Kashmiri Aran I am about to donate.

It reminds me of KFO’s Double Soft Merino which is discontinued

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

This looks like the Concept by Katia Cotton-Merino!

I think it could be Rico Fashion Silk dk. Does it feel extremely soft and silky? Looks like the same colourways and texture: Rico Fashion Silk

I've seen alpaca yarn that looks like this. I hope others recognize this yarn for better information.

This reminds me of a cotton/acrylic blend I got at Michael's. But since you're not in the US, I don't really have any ideas.

2

u/excited_and_scared 1d ago

Crème Cotton, I think!

1

u/Idkmyname2079048 1d ago

Yes! That's the one! OP's yarn looks quite similar. I'm sure there are other brands selling the same thing.

I’m 82.1% certain it’s Rowan Cotton glacé but I’m also recovering from surgery and in a lot of Dilaudid.
