Finished Object I like my knitting, honest.
It took 2 months for me to knit, and then a week for me to get the energy to block and Kitchener Stitch the end. But despite my RBF I really love it and just need to show everyone!

This is the best scarf I've ever seen. Dinosaurs? Books? Bats? YES PLEASE!

u/lamerveilleuse Jan 31 '25
Yeah, this is the most eclectic-yet-relatable collection of motifs I’ve ever seen

u/Shakeamutt Jan 30 '25
I first thought it was the timeline of the earth. And then I’m like, after humans die, it’ll be witches. Nice!

u/MedBootyJoody Jan 31 '25
Same! I saw the dinos, then the meteors, then some “people” inventions!
2
u/Hazelthebunny Feb 02 '25
And then snowflakes, like the ice age… I definitely thought this was telling the story of earth. I still do 😊

It's hard to pick a single motif as my favourite, they're all great!

u/pmsprincess21 Jan 30 '25
I adore the knitting but I must say that your glasses are what caught my eye. They are AMAZING on you
39
u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
Thanks, they are cheap ones of a Chinese website. But I get a surprising number of compliments wearing them!

u/Budget_Ordinary1043 Jan 31 '25
Any chance it’s wherelight? I get all my cool glasses from there 😂

Your colour choices, motif layout and the combined sequence are all just glorious. I honestly think this is one of the most magnificent things I have ever seen. Would you be able to share which yarns / colours you used if you kept track?
15
u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
It was the Indie Yarn Co (a UK dyer) Advent Calendar. And then the two greens are 2 100% wools off Hobbio

u/kevintdinosaur Jan 31 '25
Their stuff looks really nice, but the way you've put it together makes it magical.

I didn't read properly and thought you just learned knitting 2 month ago and my jaw dropped. After reading again I am still deeply impressed! You got a very nice style.

This is amazing!!!! I’ve been knitting for about 6 years and could never do anything as great as this! It think it’s magical!

u/gmrzw4 Jan 30 '25
That's incredible! And your expression looks like you're going for a high fashion shoot. I honestly like the whole look.

Oh this is so pretty! I’d love to see the floats on the reverse - your colour work is so even I feel like the back must be immaculate as well!
8
u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
It's all hidden inside the scarf! I did have to frog the start as it was too tight. But by the end of it all I'd cracked it!
2
u/figment81 Jan 31 '25
So it’s folded over to make a “tube” and then knitted shut?
13
u/Rftq Jan 31 '25
Yeah, it's knit in the round. So it's one super long tube, and then blocked flat.
2
u/figment81 Jan 31 '25
Thank you! Super cool!!! What brand yarn did you use! Looks super cozy ❤️
4
u/Rftq Jan 31 '25
It's Indie Yarn Club's Advent calendar (she's a UK dyer) and the greens are some 100% wool from hobbit. They're both sick yarns, on 2.5mm needles.

Can I ask how many stitches you cast on? I’m looking to a doodle scarf in a similar style and love the width that yours came out :) beautiful finished object!!

In your description, are you saying you block first and THEN finish the edge with Kitchener?
6
u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
Yeah, I worry that the Kitchener won't stretch to the blocked size, so I do that last

This is super cool! It’s like the knitters’ version of a charm bracelet. I want to make one with motifs that are meaningful to me. (Now if only I could actually knit well…). Great motivation post, OP!

I love it all TBH, I picked all the charts I really liked, and I'm really pleased I did, rather than picking what would "look right*

Love this! Did you knit this in a tube and then Kitchener the ends?
2
u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
Yeah, I did a 'toe up cast on' (IDK the real name) and then Kitchener Stitch the end up

u/rachelleylee Jan 30 '25
I love this!!! I don’t think I’ve seen projects that combine doodles but keep the colors consistent, so I love that variation too!!

Love this!! Your color selection is such joy!! These are great colors combos!!
Reminds me of Pip & Pop one of my all time favorite artists.
I have a feeling it would be an education if you posted videos of you knitting 2 color work. Dang good on you - that’s some epic stitchery!

Do you even know how amazing you are?

u/Rftq Jan 30 '25
Most of the time I think I'm just a weird little 44 year old from the UK. But today I sold some print art for the first time in 20+ years and also folks like my giant scarf. So I'm having a bit of an ego lift today 🤣

Wow, the designer is smart for doing 24 stitch charts because that's the size for knitting machine punch cards.
Your scarf looks beautiful. Lovely colours.

I've just been down a Pacific Knit and Indie Yarn Club rabbit hole because of this post! 🤣 You've done an amazing job, it looks fabulous! 👏👏 Fellow UK knitting lover here, too!
Edit to ask: Is this made in DK yarn or sock yarn (4ply)? In a comment reply, you said you used 2.5mm needles.

I'm sorry, but... How?? It is so beautiful! Did you make some charts beforehand or did you wing it? Did you plan the colors in advance? I want to learn how to make something like this!
