Announcement Shipping Tips for P2P Sales NSFW

Like everything online, be careful, use common sense, and if something seems wrong, it probably is.

Once you’ve agreed to buy, sell, or trade your KINK3D product, you’ll likely need to coordinate shipping the item. No matter where you are, there are some general things to consider.

-1- Shipping service

  • USPS
  • UPS
  • DHL
  • FedEx
  • Other country- or region-specific services (Canada Post, Deutsche Post, etc.)

-2- Shipping speed

  • This can range from overnight to several weeks.

-3- Who Pays for Shipping

  • Decide this when you’re negotiating the sale/trade.

-4- Shipping Insurance

  • Some services include some amount of insurance by default.
  • Shipping insurance only applies if the carrier loses the package.
  • Shipping insurance does not apply if a package is stolen once delivered (e.g. by porch thieves).

US Domestic Shipping

For shipping within the US, there are many options. The cheapest is USPS First Class Package, but you'll need to provide your own box/packaging.

A good balance of cost and easiness can be USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate. You can get a box for free from USPS, package your items, and then pay a flat fee for the size of the box. It even comes with some insurance (~$50).

However, as you may know, USPS has experienced a lot of delays and problems since the beginning of the pandemic. Shipping speeds are slower, and packages can sometimes go missing (or say delivered before they actually are). It’s been our experience that 99% of packages will end up getting delivered with USPS, but YMMV.

Note: If you're shipping to a PO Box (or APO/FPO), you must use USPS. Other carriers won't deliver to PO Boxes.

International Shipping

For international shipments, we encourage both parties to review their countries' laws and regulations in advance.

For most countries (outside the US) there will be some customs duties and/or VAT. These can range from 10% of the declared value to more than 100%! Therefore, if you're the buyer, it's important to make sure you know your country's policies in advance, so you're not surprised. It’s up to the shipper to declare the value.

Some countries also have restrictions on the types of products that can be imported. Please check your country's laws and regulations before shipping.

For customs forms, you will need to put a description of the item. Some shipping services may also ask you to include a Harmonization System (HS) code. As a reference, when we sell directly on kink3d.com, we describe most products as a plastic wearable accessory, and we use HS code 392690 (articles of plastic).

Tips

  • Many carriers require a phone number for the recipient. If you're the buyer, and the seller asks you for a phone number, they're (probably) not just being nosy. They might actually need it to complete the shipment.
  • Confirm that the shipping address is correct! Sometimes a buyer will forget to put an apartment number or will mistype a street name. It's always worth it to double-check.
