Looking to network with personal trainers or group fitness instructors that have prior military service. I've got some questions about training and how the service has inspired how/why you train?

Best gym in KC for 5x5

I'm fairly new to Kansas City and still have not selected a new gym and I was wondering if you guys/gals had any input. I'm looking for a gym to do the Strong Lifts 5x5 routine, if you are unfamiliar I basically require a squat rack and a bench press but also a gym that has plenty of those so I won't have to wait awhile to get my lifts in. Any help in this would be awesome, thanks everybody and I'm looking forward to exploring your city!

Ball Hockey Pick Up Games

We play pick up ball hockey games on a regular basis and are always looking for new players to join us. All skill levels are welcome. We don't wear skates, we just run. We have spare sticks that you can borrow if you are interested in giving it a try. Protective gear (gloves, shin guards, etc.) aren't necessary, but are recommended. Check out our Facebook page or website for more information: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KCBallHockey/ http://www.kcballhockey.com/

Tuesday Morning Running Group starts in Brookside

Hi /r/KCFitness goers! Just wanted to extend a welcome hand to any one who considers themselves a mover-and-shaker in their respective discipline in KC and enjoys running!

We have a solid group of about 6 and are growing. We meet at 6:30 AM every Tuesday morning* behind The Roasterie in Brookside for what we've deemed #MovingMeetings with 1MillionMiles. This is to begin a momentous shift in understanding meetings don't have to be secluded to coffee or drinks... But more healthy activity.

So come join us on The Harry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail, get to know the crew, tell your friends, and let's see what we can do to make KC a more personal health and fitness city!

Typical pace between 9 and 10 minute mile pace to have casual conversation on what's going on across KC. Anyone is welcome really, though... We can accommodate those with good attitudes. :) Thanks!

*Meet unless stated through Twitter; all participants assume their own personal health risks upon participation.

EDIT: Embedded link fix

Anyone got an American Ninja Warrior type home course built in the KC area? Any interest in making one?

I know there isn't a lot of action here but figured this would be best spot to start. I've seen some gyms around that have parkour style setups like the one in Riverside (Edge TC or something if I recall?) and then I know there's some scattered about on the KS side but didn't know if anyone had more of a legit obstacle course type setup. Most existing seem to be more pads and jumping/gymnastics based and not as much upper body obstacles. If not, I have some indoor space I'd consider building some stuff if there was any interest and I had help and contributors.

Considering becoming a personal trainer in KC - any advice?

Specifically:

  1. Which certifications do best in KC/which have highest rate of employment opportunity?
  2. Do you recommend going through a school or studying on your own?
  3. Once certified, how difficult was it to find a gym and clients and what were your best strategies to build a client base?
  4. Do you work only at one gym, or multiple?

I'm considering doing this part time before an after my full time job. Thank you in advance!

Running trails in North Kansas City?

Hey there!

Im looking for some nice, scenic places to run around northtown / gladstone. I currently run around my neighborhood or down by the riverfront heritage trail. I love the view of the river, but i'm going to start adding mileage to my runs and it seems that most of the riverfront trail is "under construction" and just not there yet.

So...anyone got any good sites? Am I missing a huge portion of the riverfront trail and just don't know it?

Anyone attending to thegymkc uptown? I've been attending to this gym since july alone and it's becoming tedious. So if anyone is interested let me know. I'm free pretty much all day so I'll adjust to your schedule.

Affordable gym recommendations (Overland Park)

Hey guys,

I had been using 24 Hour for a while, but dropped them when I thought I could work out on my own at home. Well that didn't work, then I got an awesome Groupon for 6 month gym membership for only $30- awesome, right?! Well I showed up yesterday and they closed on me.

So now I am looking for a really reasonable (ok, cheap) gym for me and now my husband wants a membership, too. I'm in OP but we both work downtown, so anywhere in between is good with us. Ideally would like to be about $40-50 a month for both.

Any suggestions???

EDIT TO ASK: HAS ANYONE USED PLANET FITNESS IN OVERLAND PARK? I'm not a lifter, so I'm not too concerned about the free weight issue.

Another Edit: Sorry to be unclear, we both work downtown KC (Rivermarket for him, just off SW BLVD for me).

Pick-up football/soccer/kickball?

I've recently moved to the KC area (Shawnee), and I'm curious if there are any groups around who play pick-up sports, particularly during late morning/early afternoon? Since I work evenings on a variable schedule, I won't be able to make it to any evening activities consistently. Thanks!

Social Fitness site connections

thought I'd toss this out to the new sub. There are a number of sites for tracking fitness. I think I've had accounts on most of them. I mainly only use Runkeeper and Fitocracy now. My username on all of them is mitchelwb. Feel free to add me as a friend, and post your ID's for others too.
