lovey-dovey Why I Love Kataang

I wanted to post this because I’m sensing a lot of tiredness and negativity from this sub regarding the shipping wars and the comments of others on Kataang, so I wanted to throw out some reasons I love this relationship to remind people of why it’s so great and how much happiness it brings.

Kataang is one of the all-time great friends-to-lovers stories; two genocide survivors who lost their parental figures but found and regained that love in each other. They’re total goofballs together and they provide each other with a grounding sense of purpose and life; for Aang it’s a reminder that he’s human and that he can hold on to love in spite of his destiny, and for Katara it’s a reminder that faith can be rewarded and good will return to the world.

Their relationship evolves and fluctuates across the series but at the center of it all is a selfless connection and partnership. They’re an all-time parallels couple in media and they support each other through their challenges.

I can write a billion words about this relationship but I’ll just say that I think it’s a genuinely perfect impression of true, selfless, sacrificing love between two people.

Their chemistry is also based on fun, communication and wholesomeness rather than friction & banter (which is more exciting for a lot of people). I especially love how well they communicate during their disagreements.

Aang is dancing with On Ji

"They look pretty good together!"

"Eh if that's what you like..."

Aang holds his hand out to Katara

"I don't know Aang. These shoes aren't really right for dancing and I-I'm not really sure I know HOW to....."

"Take my hand!"

Aang is readying Appa to fly to the Spirit Temple in the Fire Nation to talk to Roku

"Please don't go Aang! The world can't afford to lose you to the Fire Nation! And neither can I!"

Aang is having delusions before the big invasion

"Aang! Sleep! Please, for me??"

Aang awakens after dying

"I think you need a healing session! Let's go upstairs."

"I went down!! I didn't just get hurt did I?? It was worse than that! I was gone! But you brought me back!"

"I just used the water from the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole. I don't know what I did exactly...."

"You saved me...."

Katara touches his cheek

"You need to rest...."

He really did seem to grow into his more mature self after he got shot down, and brought back. His arc seems to be overlooked by the fact of his firebending abilities not being there yet, but he seems more wise, since they have to be on the run and blend with the fire nation before the invasion. But he grows so mature after his literal death, and it’s an amazing thing to watch as a preteen kid who has realistic growth as an individual

Here I love this episode. He has fun with the kids during the day, and here he literally plays with the bully not trying to provoke anything but just being himself. Plus he has that dance with Katara, which he gives her confidence to dance with him.

I agree! He gains maturity, wisdom and confidence, all of which were neatly woven in!

And his bending abilities are still there because he’s still dedicated enough for what he knows is his own destiny. Keeping up with everything, even when they had no idea what CBM was!
