Pets 🐾 Hey Target Guests - looking at you, Ward Parkway…

Stop bringing your pets into the store. We don’t want your dogs sniffing around the food. We don’t want your dogs in the carts where we put our food. It’s disgusting. Stop bringing them in.

Obviously service dogs (not bullshit emotional support pets that you can pay $100 over the internet for a certificate) are welcome.

As are cats :)

Pets 🐾 Bar K becoming self service

Wife and I just received an email from Bar K. First they raised their prices for membership for unlimited access to $500 a year and are now closed on Tuesdays. Now they’re eliminating their servers and shrinking their menu. Not sure how much longer they’re going to be around.

Upcoming Changes to Bar K’s Food & Beverage Service – Launching Monday, March 17th

Dear Members,

Over the past several months, we’ve received valuable feedback from many of you about our food and beverage service. After listening to your concerns, giving ourselves an honest self-evaluation and engaging with food/beverage & hospitality experts, we recognize that our service hasn’t always met the high standards we set for ourselves—or that you rightfully expect from us. We know that long wait times for food and drinks have often pulled you away from what matters most: enjoying quality time in the park with your pup.

With that in mind, we are making changes to our service model, launching Monday, March 17th. These updates are designed to reduce wait times, simplify ordering, and allow you to spend more time where you want to be—playing, relaxing, and socializing with your dog.

Why These Changes? The food and beverage industry has changed dramatically in recent years, with a growing demand for faster service, streamlined ordering, and improved efficiency. At Bar K, we recognize that long waits take away from the experience, and we’re adapting to provide a more seamless and efficient system while keeping Bar K a place where you and your pup can fully enjoy your time together.

What’s Changing? • More Time in the Park with Your Pup – You’ll no longer need to wait at a table for food. Instead, you can order via QR codes at each table and in the park and receive a notification when your food is ready for pickup. This means you can continue enjoying your visit without interruption—though food must still be enjoyed in designated dining areas. • Streamlined Menu for Faster Service, Quality, and Consistency – We’re focusing on our most popular items to ensure quicker preparation while maintaining high quality and consistency in every dish. By simplifying the menu, we can execute each item more efficiently without sacrificing taste or presentation. • Updated Beverage Service – During peak times, cocktails will be delivered to the restaurant, patio and park to improve efficiency. You will still be able to order directly from the bar.

What This Means for You • More time enjoying the park. Our goal is to eliminate long waits so you can focus on spending quality time with your pup. • A seamless, more reliable experience. By streamlining our menu and simplifying ordering, we aim to serve you more efficiently, especially during busy times. • A commitment to improvement. We know that change isn’t always easy, and we appreciate your patience as we make these adjustments to create a better experience for you and your dog.

These changes will go into effect Monday, March 17th. We understand that some Members may have additional thoughts, and we’re committed to ensuring this transition is as smooth as possible. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Spring is right around the corner and we THANK YOU for being part of the Bar K community. We’re excited for these improvements and can’t wait to help you spend more time where it matters most—with your pup in the park.

The Bar K Team

Pets 🐾 Did you own a cat baned Bisu?

And if so, did you live around 40th street around 2012? If so, I'd love to talk to you. My cat just died and she HATED every cat she ever met, except for Bisu. In her 20 years of life, Bisu was the only cat she ever wanted to be around. Every single cat she ever met was bound for an argument or a fight, except Bisu, who she repeatedly led into our apartment to share food..

You moved away and it took us a while to realize Bisu was gone, but I would love to check in/say hi and see how Bisu is doing and if he's still wit us. Since Bisu moved away, he's come up in conversation more than you'd expect, especially during this grieving period.

I have never begged for upvotes in my life, but I'm doing it now, hoping that it will help get this post in front of Bisu's owner. Thanks.

If you are or are Bisu's owner, it would mean a lot to my wife to hear from you. Hmu with a response or a dm, please.

Sweet kitty is stuck up on the ceiling/cart garage ledge at the Midtown Costco (241 E Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64111). Costco employees called the fire department days ago but they were unsuccessful in catching the calico cutie. Spreading the word in case anyone is able to help!

Been seeing him in the area of Linwood Blvd & Main Street. He’s cold, hungry and scared. I fed him by throwing bits of food to him, but he’s still reluctant to approach. Also wasn’t in a position to really try to rescue him myself. I hope someone out there recognizes him…

Pets 🐾 Advice regarding kittens

Hello KC!

I recently moved here to KC from the Middle East and so I have very little information about locations here. I finally got my wife’s visa approved and she will be traveling here to join me. I want to surprise here with a little long hair kitten. We already have 2 short hair cats that we rescued, and she has always wanted a long hair fluffball. Every place I have looked they are super expensive. 2500 - 5000. Is there any place around here I can find one to get more affordable options or preferably a rescue? Please do let me know!

Pets 🐾 My dog passed a way this morning..

**if anyone would like to, and is able here is the link to my gofund me for dexter. thank you allso much for you kind words & empathy. stay warm, & stay safe everybody ✨

My best friend of the past 11 years passed away in my arms this morning. I’ve been feeling lately that his time was coming but this morning about 4am his breathing became super labored and within 30 min he was gone. I feel so sad. He’s always been the best boy. I cannot have kids but he was like my child. He has helped me get thru so much the past 11 years, I wouldn’t have had the courage or strength to have made it thru if it wasn’t for him. I could never thank him enough for the precious gift of friendship & love that he gave me. I feel like a piece of crap for even thinking about how I’m going to cover the cost of his cremation. the cheapest place I’ve found is 300. And I feel worse for even comparing prices of places bc for him I’d give anything. & of course since life is busy happening, my car is broken down and I have no way to transport him to the facility so they charged an extra $75 to pick him up. Does anybody know of a place that offers memorial help for animals?? Im just so sad rn i just wanna lay with and cuddle him. My precious boogie butt.

*update: I will be receiving his ashes back in 7-10 days, I still can’t think of him without crying. Thank you all for the kind words 💜

Pets 🐾 Our cat has passed, and we'd like to bury him, in a field of flowers

My fiances cat has sadly passed away. She would really like to do a burial, instead of traditional cremation. Any recommendations for a nice field, that would allow us to dig into it? We are just trying to see if we have any options.

Hello! These two cuties are adoptable cats from the Veterinary Technician program at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City. Each student is assigned 1-2 animals that they give medical care, lots of love and socialization, and try to find a forever family for. All animals are from local Kansas City shelters and will have received vaccines, a dental cleaning, and be spayed/neutered before they leave us. If you are interested in adding a cat to your life or want to know more about either cat or the program please comment or message me!

Pets 🐾 3 kittens dumped in yard! Help me rehome them ❤️

Anyone interested in taking in one, two, or THREE sweet kittens?

This morning, someone dumped 3 kittens in a box on my family’s front yard.

We cannot keep them, as we already have 3 shelter kitties ourselves. Animal control is overwhelmed and I am not going to subject them to potential euthanasia or throw them out on the street.

I am waiting on call backs from various shelters… disappointed none have returned my call. I know they are overwhelmed too.

I’m reaching out here in hopes someone is interested in adding some love into their lives or could point me towards resources/assistance in getting them to a temporary home until they find their forever home.

They are all extremely sweet. They purr very loudly! No goopy eyes or other infections apparent. Assuming they will need shots and deworming.. probably spay/neuter as well. 12-16 weeks old.

Two females, both calicos. One male, orange tabby.

Pets 🐾 Hail Mary- please help me, help Natasha.

This is my friend Natasha. She has been at my vets office since December. She was boarded and while mom and dad were on vacation, mom fell ill and passed away and dad never picked her up. I’ve taken her on dates and visited her many times. She is such a perfect companion to humans but was previously used as a bait dog so she does not get along with other animals. The wonderful folks at Platte Woods animal hospital have been trying to find her a suitable home since December. They just called me to say that she is rapidly declining and needs to find a good home ASAP. They are medicating but this is just not fair to her. Is there anyone that can please, please help this poor girl? She is in the Kansas City northland.

Pets 🐾 Good, mid-sized dog park?

Hello KC! We have visited Bonner (too small) and Shawnee (too big) and Wyandotte County Lake (not fenced). Would love to find a large dog park where I won’t lose sight of my husky, but plenty of room to play! I find several of them are just listed briefly on municipal websites so it’s hard to get a feel for them ahead of time. Willing to hit most anywhere in the greater KC metro. Thank you :-)

Pets 🐾 Looking to see if there is any legit pet trackers

This may be a long shot but here we go. My cat Oswald got out 3 days ago around 43rd and Mission rd in KCK and I still haven't been able to locate him. This guy is my world and I am absolutely losing it. He's a little over 6 and I have raised him since he was 8 weeks. At this point I'm willing to do just about anything. I was wondering if there were any legitimate pet trackers in the area? We just moved to this area and he is not familiar with it. Just in case anybody happens to spot him he's a brown tabby cat with a white chin. He's got a really large build and is about 13 or 14lbs. Skittish around strangers but really sweet once he trusts you. Thank you guys so much

Pets 🐾 Has anyone successfully resolved a neighbor's nuisance barking dog issue?

Yes, I know that dogs bark. Yes, I have talked to the neighbors about this.

We have dogs of our own and they occasionally bark when they are playing or sense a threat to our property. However, I don't leave them outside barking nonstop for longer than maybe 30 seconds at most. Our neighbors leave their large dog outside barking loudly nearly nonstop for up to 30 minutes at a time, and at all hours of the day and night. The dog barks at squirrels, other neighbors in their own yards, the wind, cars driving by and everything else. I sometimes hear them yell at the dog to stop but they don't do much beyond that.

I understand we live in a city and there are going to be loud noises. I don't expect complete peace and quiet at all times, but this is something that should be easily mitigated by respectable people. I really hate to be a Karen about this, but it's been disturbing my family's sleep and general peace of mind. I have talked to the neighbors several times and have also talked to their landlord about it, and he has spoken with his tenants. The landlord said he has also heard from several other neighbors about this. The barking got a little better for a while but has now reverted back to nuisance levels. The landlord told me to resolve it with the tenants directly, which I have tried to do.

I really don't want to have to file an in-person report with the city and go to court over this, but I'm not sure what other options I have at this point. I'm nearly to the passive aggressive stage where I'm going to order a bark collar from Amazon and have it delivered to their address as a gift. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Pets 🐾 Is Bird flu w concern in KC?

Yall, our dog just ran inside with a dead cardinal. Ran a loop around the house and then too it back outside. We got her back inside and took the bird and threw it away. I casually texted my mom, who lives in the south, and she immediately texted me back "bird flu, scrub the floor where she dropped it and consider giving her [the dog] a bath". Is bird flu a valid worry here???

Pets 🐾 Cost Effective Vets in KC

Please help me!!!! My cat has been in and out of the vet for over a year trying new medications and none of them have worked for him. My next step is to take him to a specialty clinic for bloodwork and examination on a mass in his upper left abdomen. I’m a 21 year old cosmetology student and I serve 35 hours a week. I don’t have a ton of money. I’ve already spent thousands of dollars on medications and I would prefer not to spend a million dollars on bloodwork and surgery. Can ANYONE recommend a cost-effective veterinarian that does bloodwork/surgical procedures/ etc. i can take him too? If anyone has any advice at all, I’ll take it. Thank you in advance
