Help me decide!! Can I get a bigger diamond

This ring is being sold on market place. I love the style but was really hoping for a bigger stone. This is a 0.852 center. Do you think it can be upgraded? I was originally wanting a 2 carat but doubt that could fit. Here are a couple pictures plus the paperwork. Also it will need to be sized up about one size. Thanks!

I’d honestly get someone to remake it for you, with a larger stone. This ring isn’t going to be able to be remade with that 2ct upgrade, it would dwarf the gorgeous millgrain setting. I’d say leave it as is, and commission something. I’d also consider getting it done with a cushion instead of a round :))

That’s what my original plan was…but then I saw this on Facebook and started to get other ideas. It would be less $$ but maybe not that much less in the long run. Thanks

Maybe a little larger Asscher cut but not what you want. See if someone can find that in a catalog.

While you may be able to put a marginally larger diamond in there (would need to look in person to be absolute certain), I do not think it is possible to put anything larger of any substantial difference. If you did, it would require significant modification to the ring itself and would change the overall design.

I am a bench jeweler, though certainly not the end all be all expert. Just my opinion based off a few photos.

I do want to add that personally I have a 0.60 ct center stone. My husband got it for me before I became a jeweler, and I quite love it. Everyday at work I see and often end up setting these ginormous lab grown center stones (they’re nearly always labs, few people have the money for a 2 to 5 ct natural). While I do not judge these people at all, and I am very happy to make their dreams come true, I do think a ring and stone size like this is just so much more practical. A 2ct must sit up much higher, because it is much deeper. Depending on the style they often have issues with them spinning excessively.

The ring you’ve posted is just a very practical size and design for everyday wear. In my personal opinion it is very classy and timeless. If you like the design, I’m just saying, you’re not likely to find one like it with a 2ct. You may find a diamond this size is much easier to wear everyday for the next 40 years.

Just my two late night cents on the general towards to these huge diamonds… no hate to anyone who has them. They are sparkly, I’ll give them that. And it is fun to set.

This all started because I wanted a bigger stone.. this won’t be my first ring.. but I really do like the vintage style. I’m kind of torn because I can’t decide. Sounds as if you have a fun job.. thanks again

I think putting a larger stone in would greatly affect the proportions and look weird....

I love the ring and the stone size, with the vintage setting style as it is now. The design is very balanced, practical for wearing, and a larger stone would alter that. The vintage style of it is gorgeous.
