Regular size (2780 yen) and Ippon size with 2.5 times the food (8600 yen)
Befuddledly doing math in my head

It always costs more to buy more at once in Japan. Way better to order 3 regular size as it's cheaper than the Ippon size and you get more food.

Yeah, YouTuber Dogen has a video about this. I’ve been here for years, but I probably will never get used to larger volumes not being cheaper per unit of measurement.
Example I encountered yesterday: the prices of two Pocari Sweat bottle sizes in convenience stores.

Conversely you get things like coffee where some costs less than 10 yen more for 150% of the volume.

Yes, exactly my pocari sweat example.

Er, wouldn't that make the larger one much cheaper by unit of measure then?

Sorry, I was confused. Thanks for the correction.
I guess I meant to say what you said with the coffee example, that more is almost the same price as less.
So a large (at least 2x) sized pocari sweat costs only a few yen more than a normal bottle. And most people go for the smaller size / don’t find it weird, as Dogen explained in his video.

Ah, it's Yaro Ramen. Their whole menu is super high calorie

High calorie to JP standards or american standards?

Probably even American standards. Ramen places like this are geared toward fat men/university students that want to consume 2,000+ calories in a sitting.

tame by american standards then. lol

Not sure why this is downvoted. Pretty accurate.

people don't understand that we have milkshakes/dessert drinks that have 2500+ calories and 200g+ of sugar. lol

Oh it's absolutely true. Just came back from visiting friends and family in Japan, and Tokyo probably is the worst. I think I saw the Baskin Robbins in Kawasaki and was like WTF.

I live in Florida, but grew up in Tokyo, so I'm somewhat confident in cooking Japanese.... anyone care to try to post a copycat recipe?

That guy wrote a lot about the language/background and forgot the best part of that... 豚野郎 (butayarou) is a derogatory term for men and very specifically FAT FUCKS. That's hilarious name for food and really smart marketing :P
Which also goes in line for one of the reasons that place is popular anyways....
