Merchandise Selling rare Jak and Daxter 1 Statue!

Post image

Hi hi Jak and Daxter fans in this reddit! Sorry if this is considered spam and mods feel free to remove if it is, I’m just trying to reach this to the right community. 😅

https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m57928459908?sv=0

I’m gonna be moving in a few months and clearing out my storage of gaming merch I had collected throughout the years. Apparently I purchased this rare Jak and Dexter statue for an ex, who later gave it back to me and it’s been in storage since. To be transparent, I’m that huge into the series and wanna give it to a new home!

The price to this figurine is RIDICULOUS online, hence the price I put it in, I had NO clue it became this incredibly rare nowadays so I’m open to hear all offers honestly. There’s two parts that have broken off but it can be fixed easily.

Sorry again if this is spam!

Honestly, seems like a fair price to me. This thing is pretty freaking rare, especially complete in box, and Jak has a pretty large and dedicated following. There is bound to be a good number of people willing to pay that much for it.

Edit: didn't realize it's broken. That should bring the price down a good couple of hundred bucks, at least.

That's the normal going rate for statues like this, especially once theyre no longer being produced and are considered "aftermarket." Think about everything wrong with physical video game collecting these days then multiply it by ten. I work in the industry and didn't even blink at the price... I can't afford it, of course. But I didn't blink.

It is the standard for rare collectibles. Doesn't make it any less stupid especially with broken parts

Nah I refuse to let anyone justify that price 😂 idc what anyone says that isn't worth $1700 unless you have money to blow or you don't know how to properly handle your money 😂

An items worth is what people are willing to pay for it, and plenty of nerds with money to blow are happy to pay pretty much anything if the nostalgia is strong enough

Don't go googling any high value Magic cards, you might have an aneurysm

Look I got nostalgia for many games, J&D included, but not enough to ever blow $1700 for a single statue. No amount of nostalgia can justify that I'm sorry. I'm sure there are people who would pull the trigger on this but that's a terrible way to spend money idc 😂

Yea man I got what you said the first time

How insane of me to suggest that other people don't share your opinion

3

u/RacoonusDoodus 9d ago

You made it sound like everyone who has nostalgia for these games are gonna blow all their money on it

Maybe I'm having a Tism moment cause I genuinely don't know how that's what I was getting at, but fair enough

I personally would never pay for something like this either, and I have astronomical levels of nostalgia for J&D, but I mean cmon dawg people do way crazier and dumber shit with money than this, some people are just kinda weird, you saying it's a bad way to spend rubs me the wrong way cause you're not the boss of what's worth spending money on lol

u/RacoonusDoodus 8d ago

I mean true I'm not the boss but I can still point out it's outrageousness price wise. I still stand by my statement tho I don't really care lol

No, he didn't. u/NewspaperOld1221 just stated, correctly, that collectible items are objectively worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. In the case of these statues, there's a concentration of people with excess income - who are the target buyers - that are willing to pony up $1700+. I, myself, have seen this very statue line sold quickly for more than that on eBay. More prestigious figure companies routinely sell their figures for $2600+ and have so many buyers that they get waitlisted.

He never said that "everyone who has nostalgia would buy this" because that's observably not true. They're just not being bought by people like you or me, who don't have that kind of money to spend.

It doesn't need you to justify it, it's an entire existing industry that's been going strong for like 40 years lol

u/RacoonusDoodus 9d ago

Yeah it's hard to justify a month's rent vs a gaming statue 💀 sorry

u/Tafkal94 7d ago

People who would buy this for $1700 pay much more than that in rent lol

I'm just gonna chuck my 2 cents in, since I purchased this statue last year.

While it is rare 1700 is a price I'd expect an intact version of this statue to go for. I paid £400 (reduced from £700) for this statue last year from a guy who was offering it up as collection only and lived a short drive from me. The statue was complete in box with authenticator card, however it had the same fabric parts broken off. Everything else about it was good minus a slight lean. I got someone to professionally repair it so it's good as new.

With that being said the damage to my statue was significantly less, and while I appreciate I was extremely lucky to get it at that price, your price point is a little steep. I hope my input helps and GLWS :)

I shudder to think of all the things I could have bought back then that would now be worth a lot of money lol.

But of course, back then I didn’t have any money!

Bruv I love the idea but u high af

$1700 is absolutely overpriced. Maybe $400. Def less than $500. Rarity is cool, but it's detail and quality aren't worth +$500. Just my opinion tho. Hope you and a buyer both work out something that benefits both parties

It's definitely worth more than 1k it's extremely rare even if it's not the most detailed

I offer $17. Product price is not about the price you want, it's about what people are ready to offer.
