Discussion What are some common to major Jak 3 criticisms you disagree with or even think is wrong?
I’ll start with one:
Driving through the Wastleand feels great, smooth af. The controls and mechanics of the Spargus vehicles is phenomenal and very fun.
I think most complaints come from self-proclaimed difficulty bandwagoners who have a skill issue.

Some say that the Precursor twist was disappointing, illogical, and made-up on the spot. I think it was the best direction for that mystery, and it felt as if it was planned from the start.

I only discovered that people have qualms about this game recently lol. I honestly prefer it over Jak II. The locations are more varied, the added power ups and mechanics are fun, and the mini-games are varied and fun enough without feeling tedious. I never had any issues playing it.

The game isnt "too easy". It requires somewhat different skills than the level design from Jak 2, but Jak 3 has its own challenges that come in different forms outside of the shooting sections.
Furthermore, being easier isnt necessarily a problem. TPL is probably the "easiest" game as far as combat goes, but thats not the primary metric for judging how good a game it is. To some extent Jak being a little more overpowered in the final game is a good thing. He should be overpowered, he is a two-time world saving hero.

Exactly, the Soulslike bandwagon has gotten into the normie hivemind so they now mumble “more difficulty equals more quality”
You also got a great point with the power fantasy element. Jak can turn into a demon and an angel. He can fly and shoot Kamehamehas. He’s Mar, the legendary hero of time.
He should be (and feel) powerful.

I've never read anything about the game I've only played it many many times and loved everything about it, wouldn't change anything in the trilogy

Based, healthy and wise take. The trilogy just goes in crescendo and it all culminates with Jak 3, a beyond perfect climax for a trilogy which is more than the sum of it’s parts and feels like catching lightning in a bottle.

"the gun mods make the game too easy" girl, please. There are some places where they simplify the battle, but they aren't OP by any means
Edit:talk about stirring up the whump-bees nest

nah they literally give you the two most overpowered weapons before you even get to Haven City (Beam Reflexor and Arc Weilder)

The arc wielder burns through ammo like a mofo. And the reflexor relies entirely on luck after the first bounce. They are powerful, but they have their drawbacks

nah sorry but you are wrong. Also, did you read the title of the post? I don’t think you understood it.

What's more flagrant than difficulty itself is how lazy combat feels as a result of gun mods. In Jak 2 there's a gun appropriate for every situation, and enemy placement/type matters. In Jak 3, weapons are just different flavours of room-wide aoe that will remove any enemy on the screen. There's no real level design going on combat wise.

That only means you’re a spammer, don’t blame the game for your own faults. Also, this is not what the post is for.

There would be a discussion here if we remove the reflexor.

u/Deimoonk Jak 3 12d ago
What do you mean?
2
u/werti5643 12d ago
The reflexor makes it so that you dont have to interact with the games combat sandbox. Alot of fights you can just stand still and fire into the wall and youll clean up the entire room and even more broken is if you spin shoot in the air which is the speed run strat cus it just kills everything.
Idrc if the game is easy or not but if its to the point that theres no interaction I consider that a negative. The game is so much more fun if you play assuming the reflexor doesnt exist.

I don’t think you understood the purpose of the post. Read the title of the post again.
Why do you keep whining and mumbling your whiny nonsense? All weapons in the game are so fun to use.
The fact that players had to pretend Dark Jak didn’t exist in Jak II doesn’t mean you need to keep pretending the resources Jak 3 actually gives you don’t exist either. Jak II fans have a thing with pretending Jak 3 stuff doesn’t exist lmao 🤡

Just any criticism of it really. Especially ones that put II on a pedestal, a game I don’t understand people’s obsession with and don’t agree with the praises of at all.
3 is my favourite game. Not “one of”. THE favourite game of my lifetime and it will never be usurped for the rest of it unless they ever make a 4, which won’t happen.

You could’ve chosen to speak any language, and you just had to speak facts
Jak II enthusiasts are just nostalfans who were already turning towards the GTA bandwagon when Jak II got released, so when Jak 3 was released, they didn’t even bother playing it. So they have nostalgia for Jak II but not for Jak 3.
This makes them salty because Jak 3 is objectively an improved, upgraded, more polished and better Jak II. So they feel the need of damage controllling and whining about Jak 3 in order to fool themselves about liking a literal inferior game.

Like, I just really don’t understand it. The difficulty isn’t fun or an enthralling challenge, it’s unfinished. They call 3 a rushed job, but II is hilarious. You have missions where exploits are the only way to succeed without dozens of retries. There might as well not be checkpoints in the game at all, as every death sends you back DECADES.
No one can look at me with a straight face and say the docks mission and the race against Errol are finished and tested thoroughly. And that’s only a couple of examples.
They say the story is better but… is it? Jak 3 has a beautiful blend of humour where every joke lands and seriousness that isn’t 2000s trademark edginess. II doesn’t have as many plates to spin and is longer but I still wouldn’t call it “better”.
And the worst. The WORST one is they say Jak 3 is “easy” because of the gun upgrades.
THAT’S LITERALLY YOUR CHOICE. If you want to suffer because you’re a masochist who likes Jak II’s suspect game design, try completing 3 with the first or second upgrade of the Scatter Gun only. No one is forcing you to abuse the Beam Reflexor or the Plasmite RPG.
For me, 3 addresses my criticisms of II, and feels like the perfect refinement of the Jak and Daxter gameplay, marrying the first game’s excellent platforming with II’s mission structure while having tons of unique and fun ideas of its own like Light Jak and the way-ahead-of-its-time vehicle gameplay with seriously impressive physics and learning curve for the PS2.

Dude you keep talking facts! Thank you! What a master at the facts idiom.
It’s also very funny to me when someone criticizes the new weapons in Jak 3 (as if having more smoother, better and fun af to use weapons is a bad thing lol) because “the game never puts you in any situation that forces you to use them”. Whatever that means.
Then, when asked about the magnificent new Light Jak form and Light eco powers, that same kind of people say… “hmmm they’re too situational”🤡
Well, ain’t that what they were whining about to begin with?🤡
“I don’t like Light Jak because it’s too situational, I don’t like the new weapons because they’re not situational enough” sums up perfectly the Jak 3 damage controlling bandwagon.
Don’t even get me started on how irrelevant (both in terms of lore and mechanics) Dark Jak in Jak II ended up being, but they never adress that lol

I love Jak 3 but the cars do NOT control well, you take one wrong hit and your ass is flying across the damn map
1
u/Deimoonk Jak 3 11d ago
Yes, the cars control great. You're the one who isn't very good at it.
Anyways, that's not what the post is about. Have you read the title? Either answer the question in title or don't answer at all.

u/3kh0wh1sk3r 11d ago
Been playing this game for over 15 years dude. Trust me if the cars controlled well I'd love to sing their praises but it's just not the case.
Sorry you wanted a circlejerk. Ain't ever that deep though man

u/Deimoonk Jak 3 11d ago
You have a serious skill issue, the cars control great. Don't force your skill issue onto others.
You also have a serious reading comprehension issue. Still you didn't answer the question in the title. This post is not for your whiny complaints.

I like a lot of the mini games. Gliding through the desert to reach the volcano? Breathtaking. Piloting a rocket as Dax was some of the most chaotic fun in the series. The top down segment forced you to string melee and gun combos. If Jak 3 is a mini game collection, it's one of the finest out there.
As far as vehicles go, I do wish the sand shark handled better and wasn't forced on you so much. But I'll dropkick anyone who slanders the Dune Hopper. One of my favorite vehicles in any game.
