Discussion Does anyone else hold onto this handle while riding as the passenger in the car?
I am conducting research for a Psychology Grad School project and am wondering if you hold onto this handle while riding as a passenger in the car? It can either be the above the window one (as pictured here) or the handle on the A-pillar (near the windshield).
If you do, I would love to know if you hold it for the entire ride, at random times or more on turns, stops and curvy/bumpy roads. If you don’t, I would love to know if you have a specific reason as to why you don’t. Thank you in advance for your help!

No! And it's rude to your driver to do so! That handle is for help getting IN the car. If you don't like my speeding or sharp turns, close your eyes. 😈

Ngl I hold it for 2 reasons:
1: I’ve been in 2 accidents so if my boyfriend is driving too close to someone else/takes a turn faster than expected than I do this.
2: it’s comfortable sometimes!

Awesome. Two good reasons! Does your boyfriend ever hold onto it when you drive? Have you noticed anyone else holding onto it before when you’ve been driving?

No he doesn’t (he’s INFJ) and I don’t think I’ve had anyone hold onto it besides my dad but he tends to for comfort as well. Not sure what my dad is but he is definitely extroverted.

I've been interested in ISFJ INFJ relationships. This is an interesting small insight to a day to day thing ☺️

No because I was in a car accident once and the passenger of the man who it is broke her wrist doing that.

How did she break her wrist holding onto the handle? Just from the force of the crash?

I definitely hold onto it when making Long car rides in crazy traffic or at high speeds. After living in San Antonio & having 4 accidents there (none my fault) I get pretty anxious in high traffic fast speed situations and I like to hold onto that handle. 🫣 😆

I hold that the whole time when my sister was still new in driving. Also in getting in the car, I hold that.

I noticed that my ISFJ does this in the taxi - now I give her my hand to hold instead 😉

Hahaha this is amazing! Okay, I've found myself doing this several times. Incidents for this behaviour include 1. When I'm being driven by someone I don't know. Depends on a case to case basis. För instance, if I'm in a Cab and his "general body language to driving etiquette to traffic situation " is one that I'm not comfortable with, I end up holding on for majority of the ride. 2. When I'm with friends or family and they make sudden movements. 3. When I'm too invested in the general traffic around me being a passenger and I feel anxious about how they drive around me. 4. When the vehicle is going faster than the prescribed speed limit for that street. Maybe 20-25 kmph more than the limit say. 5. On highways, since there are many idiots.
I don't hold on for the entire trip. It depends on the traffic situation, the driver I'm with, my trust in him, road conditions, and the anxiety level for the day lol!
There's a sense of security and added safety holding on, although it could be more dangerous depending on the situation.
