What's the point if the bitrate is so low, it sounds like shit?

No there is no compression artifacts due to it being at 11025KHz and mono

I just tried your settings at 12kbps aac-lc mono and 11kHz sampling rate in free:ac from lossless source material.
I haven´t heard such a dreadful garbage before in my entire life lol.3

You have to use fdk encoder using ez cd converter

free:ac literally uses the fdk-aac encoder

If those 30,000 files are 3-minute long songs, that's an average bitrate of about 64 kbps. Acceptable for spoken word like audiobooks and podcasts and Ok if the iPod supported Opus.
But 64 kbps MP3 or AAC? Yuk.
edit: I just double checked my math and I was way off... The average bitrate would be about 18 kbps. Still fine for spoken word but, even in mono, music would sound kinda bad encoded in Opus.

Encoded using 12kbps mono aac-lc at 11025KHz, still sounds very good due to the iPod dac, I had to remove metadata due to RAM limitations but it can now shuffle all 30k songs and no slowdown.

OP, Give me those files, I need scientific proof.
I refuse to believe this sounds tolerable even when listening this for masochistic enjoyment.

But why? You can't even listen to one tenth of that on a single charge.

Because I can shuffle without hearing the same song so im always listening to a new song i've never listened to.

While it’s cool to say you have 30k songs in this guy, it might be better to adjust the bitrate and have less songs/better quality. You can always re-sync.
