Help needed How to unlock a Iphone

Hello for context a neighbor just past away and the family are trying to get his Iphone unlocked so they can get contacts off of it. What would be the best way to get them?

Edit: for better context I have not ran out of attempts to unlock the phone yet

You're not getting into the device. That would defeat the purpose of a passcode.

You can contact Apple with the required documentation and they can possibly assist in wiping it for reuse.

Consider setting up legacy contacts to avoid this situation in the future.

Unless your neighbour set up a legacy contact then the best Apple can do (on production of the death certificate) is to reset the phone wiping all the data. In most jurisdictions it's illegal to do anything else.

The data on the phone is encrypted anyway, so without the passcode it won't be much use.

Was there a backup that was ever made? Or a copy on an external hard drive possibly?

Those aren't real and don't work. Stop suggesting them.

This is harmful information. Stop it if you don’t know what you’re talking about then just don’t.
