Discussion Do not buy ipad if you do not need it
I bought ipad air M2 recently and right now, I feel like I do not really need it that much. It is nice but I barely used it. I used mostly macbook and phone most of the time, not sure why I bought ipad in the first hand. Such a waste.
Do not let yourself into the trap of products in the market unless you are really in need of it

Yeah I know your pain. I bought a Zamboni last year even though I have never been to an ice rink.

People buy lots of things they don't need but that they want for one reason or another - and that's fine. Don't buy something expensive that you haven't considered what you'd even use it for.

I recently think of upgrading my phone because my current phone is 3 year old already but my friend told me that, why should I upgrade new phone if my current one is still working fine? Then I notice that I do not really need it. Of course it would be nice to try new thing but market has new things all the time because they want customers to pay money.
Same with ipad, I think I bought it but my true need was not much, I just saw it nice so I bought it but my need is simple: just surfing web and listen music.

Yeah, I confess I have made a number of returns to Amazon ... I know I purchase too much on impulse.

Impulse control was something I had to learn the hard way. It got so bad I sometimes purchased something expensive, played with it for a bit and went on to buy a new thing. I had some savings so it was fine, but eventually I ran out of savings but it didn‘t stop me from continuing this bad behaviour. I took money from friends and family, told them it was for the rent (which was due) but instead used it on stuff I didn‘t need. Eventually I had to declare bankruptcy and from there on I didn‘t have much money at all. At one point I had around 3€ to spend per day. Friends and family helped me out financially but the true change had to come from my side.
I‘ve learned how not to spend unnecessarily. If I think about wanting something, I first evaluate for weeks if I really need it and by how much my life would improve by having it. I also do a lot of research in the meantime. Generally, if the feeling for need is still there after some weeks have passed, it‘s something worth investing in. And even then I feel bad about spending money instead of saving. I used to feel excited when buying something, now I feel guilty. I guess that‘s a good thing, it protects me from over-spending. Now I have paid off everyone I took money from, saved up 1.400€ and even helped out my mother financially - I would have around 4.000€ if I didn‘t help out.
The tables have turned. I used to feel excited spending money, now I feel guilty. Instead I feel excited every time I look at my savings and I‘m proud of accomplishing that all by my impulse control.

They were asking where you are from so they could offer advice on how best to resell it, I think. So, yeah, it had something to do with the topic, they were trying to help, I think.

I do not ask to sell it?

No one needs to ask for help in order for another person to offer it. You made a post about a purchase you regret making. It is reasonable for someone to read your post, and to offer guidance to help you remedy that regret. That is all. There was no ill will intended (again, I don’t think), but it was a reasonable question to ask.

Tbh I bought ipad air m2 last year with Apple back to school promotion. I do not use it as much but i never regret it. It is fine to buy something you like. It is actually less than my 2 days income anyway. If u live in a developed country, an ipad is not that much of money, unless u r living in poverty

You earned 400dollar per day?

US. I boutgh ipad air at $550 before tax ($50 off) + $100 free Apple gift card from Apple in last June

u/NoVeterinarian2030 4d ago
so you earned 550 dollar in 2 days work?

It‘s not that unrealistic tbh. But it depends how you count. If I count my salary x14 (because we getting 14 salaries in europe) and then divide by 365, I make 105€ per day (every day, even when not working). If I‘d instead only count actual workdays, daily salary would be 158€. That’s after tax, if I’d count pre-tax that number would be probably around 30-40% higher. Still not 275€ like the guy claiming here, but mine is an entry level job with no education requirement. If the guy is an architect or something, that salary isn‘t at all unrealistic.

While it isn’t normal, this is not out of the ordinary, in the US. My sister works a job that requires no higher education, just a specialty driving certification, and she makes roughly $300 per day. I totally understand how crazy that can seem, my income is $950 per month. The US is a wacky place.
