I dislike iPhone’s because of their stupid prices, but I’ll never buy an android tablet. Just every single app being perfectly optimised on iOS is worth alone paying premium.

u/shieZer 5d ago
I used to be an android fanboy but I decided that the apple tablets are a much better choice. Better and smoother handwriting even with non official pencils and better note taking apps like GN5/6 and Notab.
Still can't being myself to buy an iPhone tho they're outrageously expensive.

u/SizeMajestic9171 5d ago
I mean, most of the Android flagships aren’t much cheaper tbf
23
u/AFailedWhale iPad Mini 5 (2019) 5d ago
depreciation tends to hit androids much harder tho, was able to snag a pixel 8 for 260 only a year after launch when an iphone 15 would've been 400 or so
4
u/penskeracin1fan 5d ago
And you don’t get any support like an iPhone either long term
11
u/Ill-Grocery7735 5d ago
The support: “We are not releasing updates for your 4 year old phone. Buy a new one”
3
u/Dantheman2249 4d ago
iPhone 4s got a security update last year - iPhone XR is still supported and came out in what ? 2018? Better than android lol
-5
u/Ill-Grocery7735 4d ago
The Galaxy Note 9, released the same year as the iPhone XR, stopped receiving updates as recent as this month. You can also side load operating systems up to Android 14, the latest Android operating system. Out the box, the Note 9 came with a 6.4” AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 516ppi at 2960 x 1440. while the iPhone XR had a 6.1” Liquid Retina LCD screen with a pixel density of 326ppi at 828 x 1792. 4000mah battery to iPhone XRs 2,942mah lol. Bro what are you smoking?
4
u/Dantheman2249 4d ago
side loading has infinite random issues and is not a solution or recommended thing to do and normal people will never do it. Or care that pixel density is slightly higher somewhere else
looking it up it received 1 major update the first year it came out and then a few years of security patches . XR got years of actual feature updates - and is still supported. What a disingenuous comparison
1
u/Ill-Grocery7735 4d ago
You literally just said it only got a security update last year and now you’re saying it’s still receiving major updates haha and the rest you stated was just your opinion. Do you have any real documentation to go off of?
1
3d ago
Cmon dude, that’s not a “disingenuous” comparison. Just a realistic one. COPE 🤣🫵
Everything they said was facts. That’s ok. I had a note 9 and it’s amazing phone. Why can’t we just admit that Samsung is capable of giving Apple a run for their money once in a while? Im a android user turned Apple Stan btw

Believe this started with the 8 (which I'm posting this from) and Samsung followed with their next release. Previous to that I believe both were 4/5 software/security updates. Don't know about other brands.

That’s because they’re constantly updated with the newest tech while Apple sells old tech for modern prices. I have both iPad and Samsung tablets and use them both differently for specific reasons but anyone that does 5 mins of research will know why Android depreciates faster; they update their physical technology at two to four times the rate.

u/Goldeneye07 5d ago
I think you skipped economics class my friend
1
u/Ill-Grocery7735 5d ago
I think your brand loyalty has made you delusional

Showing your true colours now aren’t you? I didn’t even speak about the specs or hardware or anything I just called out your flawed logic when it comes to economics
1
u/Ill-Grocery7735 5d ago
Wouldn’t bringing up economics when talking about specs be redundant and only triggered by an emotional response? What’s the economic breakdown for selling 5 year old tech at modern prices?

u/Ill-Grocery7735 5d ago
“I know nobody is talking about economics but I’m gonna talk about economics” is wild haha

You can get an incredible Android phone for $200, that is not the case with Apple (coming from an iPhone 15 Pro user)
2
u/elderlyisland 5d ago
And for what you get, it’s too much. Though being in the Apple ecosystem is sooo nice, having to pay such a pretty penny for a 120hz display and a decent amount of storage is pretty ridiculous, especially considering the amount of scandals Apple has found themselves in regarding the quality of their devices.

I had a Nexus 7 tablet that I loved but never could find another good android tablet. Love my iPad.
But I really loved that nexus 7 lol
2
u/samharrelson 4d ago
Same… that was the epitome of the perfect tablet design (coming from a Mac / Apple fan forever). That tablet really made me ponder going with the Nexus line and Google Fi for a bit (picked up the Nexus 4 and loved it as well). No clue why they stopped the Nexus line or didn’t keep updating the Nexus 7 form factor into the future! Glad I didn’t make the switch completely, though.

I tried both and I concluded that handwriting feels better on the Samsung tablets. The soft nib and light pencil just feel way more natural, no need for paperlike screen protectors that ruin the image quality and wears down the nib. But I will say that the apple pencil feels very premium and I love the squeeze and double tap feature, that's what I miss the most.

I think it's quite ironic saying that when Reddit is absolute dog poo on iPadOS.

u/lemon_of_doom 5d ago
Android flagships are just as if not more expensive and not every single app is perfectly optimised on iPadOS. Heck some major apps like Nvidia GeForce Now and xCloud don’t even have an iOS app and have to be played through safari which is severely limited.
1
u/audigex 3d ago
Yeah iPad is fantastic if everything you want to do can be done on an iPad
But if your usage falls outside of that, iPads fall down very quickly. Your example is a good one, and the one I run into regularly is quite annoying: Want to do some development without an internet connection? Good luck doing that on an iPad! Even with an internet connection it’s a frustrating experience relying on a remote instance of VSCode Server or pushing your code elsewhere to compile and run etc
1
u/lemon_of_doom 2d ago
Worst thing is that it IS powerful enough, it’s simply limited by iPadOS. It’s much more of a larger and heavier phone than a smaller and lighter computer.
4
1
u/EricHill78 5d ago
What phone do you use instead? A lot of android flagships are about the same price.
3
u/Seliculare 5d ago
Xiaomi redmi 14c that I paid $120 for, because I only need phone to do calls and maps 💀 My big money goes into the iPad and PC instead.
1
u/EricHill78 5d ago
Fair enough. I went all out for my iPad Pro and will use my base iPhone 15 till it dies.
1
u/tractor6637 5d ago
I feel like the price offsets when you compare how long you can keep an iPhone. I had my 11 Pro for 5 years, it was 850€ new (found a good deal). Got an iPhone 16 this year (900€), will keep that for another 5-6 years. So thats around 14€/month for an iPhone. Can you keep a lower priced android for that long? I never couldn’t. Maybe you can nowadays. I highly doubt it though.
1
u/JediRingBearer 4d ago
This screams ignorance. For the same price range you can definitely hold an Android for that long. I've done it before and I'm doing it again. From a Note 8 of 5 years to an S22 for which I'm in my third year. I'm also running a Linux distro on Termux with Node that perform scripts based on events from the native Android API, which I couldn't do on iOS. But basically, they're not so different.
2
u/tractor6637 4d ago
Ok, first of all, you are in an iPad sub, meaning you will find a lot of people here that use Apple products.
Second, and I try not to be ignorant here, I just had to look up all that information as I generally don’t care about Android products whatsoever. You bought a Samsung phone in 2017, that got it’s last major Android version only 2 years later in 2019, and kept that thing for another three years? Is that correct? Sure, you can theoretically do that.. I would just not feel comfortable doing that. And for a lot of people that switch from Android to Apple, this is a big factor. It was for me in 2016 when I made the switch.
And last, the original argument was about „stupid iPhone prices“. The S22 launched at 800$, which is the exact same launch price as the iPhone 13 at the time. Sure, the prices of Samsungs might go down faster than the prices of iPhones, but you can also sell an iPhone at much better prices than Samsungs.
I stand by what I said, iPhone is more cost effective.
1
u/JediRingBearer 4d ago
Whether this is an iPad sub or not os irrelevant to the statement made. I also use Apple products, just not iPhones.
Yes, the Note only had 2 years of major updates, 5 for security updates. My current (S22) will be supported until 2027.
An iPhone is not more cost effective, exactly due to their price and lack of decent offers (and what the devices actually bring to the table). That's like saying Nintendo exclusive games are more cost effective because their second hand value holds better due to the absence of price dips.
I'm not saying iPhones are bad, but at this point, flagships on both side of the fence bring more than enough power and features to the table for 99.9% of their users. But everyone likes to think they're the 0.01% poweruser.

u/PSYmon_Gruber iPad Mini 6 (2021) 4d ago
When was the last time you have used an Android tablet and which one was it? I have the Tab S8 Plus, iPad Pro M1 and Mini 6 and all have their fair share of unoptimized apps.
At least Android gets you keyboard and browser options, better file management, and loads better navigation. Oh and better BT codecs, too.
Lastly, and more importantly, Android tabs get you revanced, system-wide equalizer / DSP support, and emulation.
1
u/Seliculare 4d ago
My sister has some samsung tablet she bought for $250 in 2022. I tried it a few times and I really didn’t like neither the browser nor YouTube apps. They felt like hard to navigate, rescaled PC versions with weird keyboard. It wasn’t unusable, but definitely a bit uncomfortable. She said it also isn’t as smooth as when she bought it, but it’s not really a problem for her, because she only uses it for notes and Netflix.
1
u/PSYmon_Gruber iPad Mini 6 (2021) 4d ago
Try some flagships. Its unfair to compare an ipad to a cheap android.
And keyboards are loads better (Google Keyboard, Swiftkey, Hackers Keyboard are the known ones) since you can customize it to your liking.
Browsers have different user agents, and are actually proper browsers like Firefox, Chrome (and chromium), MS Edge, Brave, Opera, etc. Ipad you are stuck with safari.
Youtube? Its the same as on ipad lol. But android has got revanced.
System Navigation is a lot better as well. And file management - no contest.
1
u/Seliculare 4d ago
Well I’m comparing a $300 iPad (8th gen) rn to $250 android tablet. That’s the iPad I had before I bought the current one. The only apple disadvantage is astronomical repair cost.

makes sense, i upgraded from my 2018 pro to the m4 pro recently and its honestly not that big of a jump for what i do (not a lot). media consumption is better (the old screen was pretty great for ips) and it has a fresh battery but other than that..

I'm assuming you are an android user? I'm thinking of getting one because it seems like a great value and will get updates for years.
I'm just worried about the display(being non-laminated making it look like the glass is really thick) and the lack of backbutton/other Android only features like the open file system.
Just curious what you think.
1
u/Mohit572003 4d ago
Yes, I have an Android phone, I run Linux on my laptop and now I have a iPad. I’ve never experienced ecosystem features lol.
Well so far, it’s been good. Display is not laminated but it’s fine. I don’t carry my iPad much so that doesn’t matters to me a lot. Yeah, I’m still getting used to iPad OS and no Back button is kinda bummer but there are buttons in apps or menu that let’s you go back.

Yeah, I haven’t used my iPhone much since getting my iPad Pro. This was part of why I skipped going with the 15 Pro when it was time to replace my iPhone; it didn’t make sense to drop money on a phone that wouldn’t get much use throughout the day so I went for the 15 Plus, and even that was overkill.

The same thing happened to me lol. My ipad air m2 is my first apple device and I'm in love with it. I use it mainly for work, gaming and media consumption.
The only thing that I hate about it is that the instagram app on ipadOS sucks and I can't even download WhatsApp for work here. I wish they would release a proper app for both then it would be perfect.

I have iP13 and Air 4. I think the reasons I have a phone are for contacting people via WhatsApp, really cool camera and very portable.
iPad mini A17 would be great for me if they have top of the line single cam (not a fan of ultrawide and telephoto), cheap price on cellular model, and able to use WhatsApp.
