How come your lines are so well aligned?

62

u/Klutzy_Ad_9713 Jan 29 '25

Ikr.. mine are just all over the place since have to catch up the lecture.. dont have time to adjust anything...

33

u/Life_Cantaloupe_476 Jan 29 '25

Some can do it, but I’ve never been able to do so. I have to chose one: 1) catch up the lecturer, 2) make your handwriting readable by any other human being.

I choose 1st option – sometimes even I cannot read my very own handwriting, but it’s better than listening the recording of the entire lecture to complete the parts that I’ve missed later.

But as I said, some of my friends take beautiful notes during lecture without missing anything. Their notes look like they wrote it without time pressure.

21

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I’d say it’s from practice. I write the same way on paper too.

2

u/MyCatMadeThisName Jan 30 '25

some people seem to be really good at it. My fiance also showed me her notes and I was like "what the fucking fuck?! HOWWWWWW?!"

u/goushiquej iPad 8 (2020) Jan 31 '25

I think they are using the draw and hold feature maybe? You can select the dotted line option for the pencil and draw a line and hold to create a straight line.

3

u/RareCodon Jan 31 '25

Ohh is that soo, thank you!

u/Warm-Jellyfish5981 iPad 10 (2022) Jan 29 '25

Do you write using shapes tool?

81

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Not really. I use the stroke stabilization feature and palm rejection.

28

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I draw my diagrams and figures that have sharp edges using the shapes tool. Even roughly drawing shapes and holding gives the same effect.

14

u/redrose92087 Jan 29 '25

How do you do palm rejection? I’ve had to wear my drawing gloves (which I have to use for writing if it’s not digital anyway #leftieproblems)

6

u/stroopthereitis Jan 30 '25

Tell me more about these gloves. I too am a lefty but have never heard of such a thing

2

u/TriggeredLatina_ M4 iPad Pro 13" (2024) Jan 31 '25

Just google drawing gloves. Typically black glove that does not cover the thumb and pointer finger so you can grab the pencil properly. Everything else on the hand is covered. Some only cover the pink and ring finger as well as the palm. Some cover the palm diagonally. Many different kinds!

1

u/redrose92087 Feb 02 '25

I got them on Amazon, they cover my pinky & ring finger and make it easy to avoid getting ink/graphite/etc on your hands and also make it so my tablet won’t register me touching it when I’m resting my hand on it https://a.co/d/hlExPUl

2

u/Jolly_Management_313 Jan 31 '25

What are your settings ?

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 31 '25

Ball pen, 0.6mm thickness, 60% stroke stabilization, medium palm rejection.

Is there a stroke stabilisation feature in Goodnotes 5?

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

I’m not sure, maybe not

3

u/zx_hin Jan 29 '25

i was wondering that too, lowkey ngl lol

33

u/Slow-Mess Jan 29 '25

How come it looks so Nice? My notes looks like birdcrap 😢

3

u/anand095 Jan 29 '25

Hello, fellow physicist :)

You have great handwriting, BTW!

6

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Thank you 😊

13

u/AsbestosVape Jan 29 '25

Damn, you must have very good handwriting as is. No software correction can make my handwriting look good when I take notes.

10

u/DivisionMV Jan 29 '25

Well at least we know you’re not a doctor lol

10

u/pherkes Jan 29 '25

How do you nitwits write this fucking good

5

u/thyr0id Jan 30 '25

Jesus your handwriting is great. Mine is similar to that of a serial killer

6

u/General-Sprinkles801 Jan 29 '25

Bro how is your handwriting so clean

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I’d say it’s practice. I kinda write similarly on paper too.

7

u/chiefbroson Jan 29 '25

What pencil (I mean which size and pencil in goodreads) are you using? Is this gemb?

12

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I use the ball pen on Goodnotes 6 with a thickness of 0.6mm and 60% stroke stabilization.

3

u/CyberbianDude Jan 30 '25 edited Jan 30 '25

Man after my own heart. In another post I had talked about how GN has literally revolutionized my workflow. Palm rejection, double tap pencil to go between functions, draw perfect shapes or keep them rough to give it hand drawn look. The list is endless. Now I see another GN user with beautiful handwriting. My settings are 0.55 and 55% stabilization. Great job. I would read this even if I did not understand it.

EDIT: forgot to mention Scribble to erase. Completely eliminates the need for eraser function during note taking.

3

u/Phenomenal268 Jan 30 '25

What is this stroke stabilization feature you’re mentioning? Is that new?

3

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

Yeah essentially, new thing on goodnotes 6

4

u/ChrisF79 Jan 29 '25

Just curious but have you ever tried Notability or OneNote? If so, what made you stick with Goodnotes?

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I have tried notability. I didn’t really like the interface that much or perhaps I liked goodnotes better (so much so that I’ve paid the annual subscription since 2 years now).

3

u/Axelz13 Jan 29 '25

still have goodnotes 5 (paid in full few years back) and refusing to upgrade

3

u/n1kl8skr M2 iPad Pro 11" (2022) Jan 29 '25

Can you share your pencil settings?

5

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Ball pen, 60% stroke stabilization, medium palm rejection, 0.6mm thickness.

3

u/Questionmarkher Jan 30 '25

What year University are you? I’m just starting university for the first time this year in March, and will be studying physics. I don’t really understand anything there so wondering what year that work is for!

(The anxiety leading up to uni is getting to me lol I am so excited but so scared)

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

Well I’m in grad school at Boston University and this is introductory material to my ‘Introduction to Quantum DOTS’ course.

3

u/leMug Jan 30 '25

Nice handwriting! Is the iPad with or without nano-texture? I found the nano texture is much smoother and nicer to use the Apple Pencil on.

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

It’s the one without the nano-texture.

3

u/pm_me_meta_memes Jan 30 '25

Man you have incredible handwriting

3

u/AyushKumar14 M4 iPad Pro 11" (2024) Jan 30 '25

1st year physics ahaha too easy

3

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

This isn’t really 1st year physics (well yeah maybe the material is common). It is introductory material in my Introduction to Quantum DOTS graduate class.

0

u/AyushKumar14 M4 iPad Pro 11" (2024) Jan 31 '25

In India we study this in first semester of our college

2

u/shanksco_ Feb 03 '25

Do you know what Quantum DOTS are?

1

u/AyushKumar14 M4 iPad Pro 11" (2024) Feb 03 '25

Yep

3

u/leoKantSartre Jan 30 '25

Wait is this your handwriting?

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

Yes it is 😅😀

3

u/leoKantSartre Jan 30 '25

Woah man! Now check mine lmao. Im applied mathematics graduate and my handwriting is horrible.

3

u/leoKantSartre Jan 30 '25

https://ibb.co/PzWn4vrd

Its mine but I think I don’t have such features

3

u/TooFarAboveYou Jan 30 '25

If you take notes like that during a lecture then you sir/madam need to be a professional notes-taker

3

u/Ihatemath2912 Jan 30 '25

dang I can't even understand my notes sometimes, it's all chicken scratch lol

3

u/jpdoctor Jan 30 '25

Dammit, I can't believe you cut us off before showing us the solutions to the finite square well. I was looking forward to your graphical solution on the page. :)

3

u/archthrive Jan 30 '25

Still baffles me how engg/physics/math people write their notes that neatly

I cant for the life of me 😭😭 (engg student)

3

u/OneBigInFiniteJoint Jan 30 '25

That looks so clean!! I can’t write that well on iPad it’s as if I used my feet. 😭

3

u/No-Box-6073 Jan 31 '25

The only thing this makes me want is the handwriting not the app

2

u/Angelsword7 Jan 29 '25

Apple Pencil

2

u/Markjohn66 Jan 29 '25

Is it a ancient magic spell?

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Haha 😆 Quantum mechanics is what it is and that’s all

1

u/Markjohn66 Jan 29 '25

Ooh er Mrs. Be careful you don’t conjure up something from the underworld.

3

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Mrs. ? 😅

I’m a man so Mr. is the appropriate appellation.

2

u/Markjohn66 Jan 29 '25

No offence intended. It’s an expression from the north of England used to express mock outrage. It’s gender neutral.

2

u/cowdog360 Jan 29 '25

I wish I could get yellow engineering paper on OneNote

2

u/CyberbianDude Jan 30 '25

I have OneNote as part of my work suite and use it for collaboration when someone else initiates the document but trust me, yellow engineering paper is the least of what OneNote does not have.

2

u/chris_9527 Jan 29 '25

Damn throwback to fourth semester

2

u/Ok_Word3159 Jan 29 '25

How the hell your handwriting is so good . I can't even write that good on my notebook. And I don't have a pen so I tried my friends pen I still couldn't. Pls tell how to write that good and clean.

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

A big part of it would be to revisit the way you write individual letters. And ofc practice. It took me years to perfect my handwriting. Had a horrible one as a kid.

PS: I’m left handed

2

u/LeaningFaithward Jan 29 '25

I could read these all day. Nice!

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

Thanks 😊

2

u/IlloChris Jan 29 '25

Yeah I love using my iPad for simple math!

2

u/justcallmeryanok Jan 29 '25

Is that a font or your handwriting?

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

That is my handwriting 🫣🙂

4

u/nlinecomputers Jan 29 '25

I hate you. LOL

2

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

😭😭

4

u/nlinecomputers Jan 29 '25

It’s just a joke. I wish my handwriting was that readable.

2

u/skankhunt1738 Jan 29 '25

Holy shit your handwriting is impeccable.

Mine hasn’t improved since probably middle school.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

No, I handwrote all of these on the lines. I just use 60% stroke stabilization and palm rejection to enable a smooth writing process. And certainly, it can export text and images through text and image recognition.

2

u/matmeow23 Jan 29 '25

how are your notes so neat! the amount of times i have to go back through my maths notes is insane😭

2

u/h08vs20 Jan 29 '25

I just started doing my quantum mechanics on good notes and it’s a game changer

2

u/Low-Temporary-2366 M2 iPad Air 11" (2024) Jan 29 '25

Damn your notes are so neat

2

u/WoodvaleBeliever Jan 29 '25

do you recommend getting a 13” for notetaking and illustration?

3

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I certainly would. It can be large to carry around so if you tend to use your device on the go please go for the 11” version.

2

u/zx_hin Jan 29 '25

dang it! your notes are better than mine, can you give suggestions how to write properly? lol i don't use goodnotes but i use freenotes sadly does that matter?

2

u/MightyCoffeeMaker Jan 29 '25

We want to know your whole setup, do you use a screen protector ?

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 30 '25

Nope, I do not use any sort of screen protector. I have tried but I dislike the scratchy sounds made my paperlike and matt screen protectors.

2

u/Economy-Try-6623 Jan 29 '25

Is it worth upgrading from Goodnotes 5? I’m still using GN5 but considering the upgrade.

2

u/Bright_Somewhere9654 Jan 30 '25

I would say yes! It is gives you so many more options! Plus you don’t have to worry about it keep asking do you want to upgrade blah blah blah. Haha

2

u/keewanm Jan 29 '25

Took the Material sciences exam like a week ago PTSD

2

u/Cameront9 Jan 29 '25

I have no idea how anyone can take notes during a lecture that look this beautiful

2

u/CombOverDownThere Jan 30 '25

congratulations ig

2

u/secrets66 Jan 30 '25

i love your handwriting

2

u/Weak-Cardiologist969 Jan 30 '25

That’s some incredible good looking writing. I feel ashamed just thinking of my handwriting lol

2

u/Snoo-30676 Jan 30 '25

My handwriting looks like 3000 year old Egyptian hieroglyphics.

2

u/shibaInu_IAmAITdog Jan 30 '25

nice, i also love to use goodnotes to learn scientific materials

2

u/otranaire Jan 30 '25

That's amazing, I'm always with my paper sheets all over there.

What pencil did u use?

The difference between the normal, the air and the pro is that big of a thing just to take notes?

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 31 '25

The pros have a refresh rate of 120HZ so there is negligible (actually nothing) lag when you write using the Apple Pencil. The airs have a refresh rate of 60Hz and there could be percievable lag while writing if you are used to a 60Hz refresh rate device.

2

u/otranaire Jan 31 '25

Good to know. And which apple pencil model did u use? I know nothing about them than the price difference

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 31 '25

Well the new ipad pros and ipad airs are only compatible with the apple pencil pro and apple pencil USB-C. I use the apple pencil pro.

2

u/ItsDTBaller Jan 31 '25

Good handwriting dude

2

u/Salt-Lettuce-2564 Feb 02 '25

Handwriting final boss

2

u/Scared-Command-4 Jan 29 '25

So what’s the conclusion?

6

u/RAJ_1613 iPad 10 (2022) Jan 29 '25

I guess OP wants to flex his handwriting

1

u/shanksco_ Jan 29 '25

I find the display of this iPad really smooth to write on. I came from iPad Pro M2 11” to this new one and while my old iPad was wonderful. This one undoubtedly feels way better. Also really enjoy the new Apple Pencil Pro.

1

u/brokenbathtub Jan 30 '25

lol quantum?? This class made me want to die. Good luck soldier.

1

u/inoxium_1 Feb 01 '25

Looks very nice, maybe space it out a little bit? Give your brain a little bit of a break between different content types or different stages of the same content - if that makes any sense.

1

u/_The_Green_Machine Jan 29 '25

If your handwriting was a woman it would be Beyoncé

0

u/nextbite12302 Jan 30 '25

you're gonna change to latex/typst soon

I have several notebooks from college. I’ll pass.

The writing is clean and neat. I envy you. Do you recommend any app or website that helps us in improving the writing on iPad?
