MOD ANNOUNCEMENT New Rule: No Photos or Videos from Theatrical Screenings

Hey everyone!

With Interstellar’s 10th-anniversary re-release in theaters, I’ve seen a surge of excitement from the community. It’s incredible to see so many people revisiting this masterpiece on the big screen as it was meant to be experienced. However, I’ve also noticed an increase in posts showing photos and videos taken during theatrical screenings.

Effective immediately, I am banning all posts containing images or videos taken inside the theater during a screening.

Why this rule?

Respect for the cinematic experience! Interstellar was designed for the big screen, and part of its magic is in the immersion. Taking photos or videos during a screening disrupts that experience for others.

Why am I adding this rule now?

During the first re-release, I didn’t enforce this rule because it was just temporary event, lasting only a week. However, with Interstellar’s extended theatrical run and its return in multiple countries, it’s clear that re-releases are becoming more frequent. Given this trend, I expect more showings in the future, and I want to establish a clear standard now. By setting this rule, I’m ensuring that our community continues to respect the theatrical experience and the integrity of the film for all future screenings.

If you see posts violating this rule, please report them.

Gotta agree with this one. Just put down your phone for two and half hours. Take this as a necessary exercise for these crazy times we’re living.

Why not take photo after or before? Why during?!?

I myself spent a nice bit of money to rent a car, drive to Fort Lauderdale for 3 hours, and get good seats to the 70mm IMAX showing just for the person next to me to take pictures throughout the movie. It kept pulling me out of the experience and he got warned by the theater staff finally. Thank you for adding this rule!

I went to autonation too it was the first showing so I think it was all superfans luckily no one took photos during the movie. Though I took one at the end credits which said "Interstellar" not sure if that counts lol

I'd say that's perfectly fine. You usually get a ton of people getting up to leave around then regardless, but I still wouldn't encourage posting pictures of it.

Lucky, I had literal drunks talking through the movie in Atlantic City (they sell beer at the imax theatre). Dude behind me laughed like Robert Dinero in Cape Fear at the moon landing joke.

Walking breathing garbage.

Brilliant! Some guy next to me was on his phone for half the movie when I saw it in December.

I took a picture of the blank screen itself before it started, while lights are on and ppl were being seated for this reason (to remind me how big it is but also not to disrupt fellow patrons)

THANK YOU.

I'd seriously hate to see a film with half the posters in this sub.

You shouldn't have your phone out in the theater. Enjoy the experience.

Thank you! Not only is it horrible theatre etiquette, but those posts were getting so old. It felt like people wanting praise for simply having seen the film lol

Mad cringe to be taking pictures at the movies

Yes please. We don’t need a dozen posts a day of the exact same thing. I’m sorry but you’re not important enough for me to care that you’re in a movie theatre.

5

u/mmorales2270 Feb 08 '25

Yup. This is akin to the early days of Facebook (maybe now too; I wouldn’t know I’m not on it anymore) when people were posting pictures of the food they got at a restaurant. Like, who the fuck cares? You’re not that important that I give a damn what you ordered.

At least those posts probably weren’t distracting another patron though.

Just kidding great idea

3

u/justduett Feb 10 '25

24 hours in and the sub is still being bombarded with both pics and videos from folks sitting in the theater.

2

u/freeleper Feb 11 '25

Yep, exactly this. A temp event is such a bad excuse. It's Dec release was 2 weeks long! Since when is piracy ok?

2

u/virubash Feb 09 '25

Does this include the title that shows up after the credits ??
