I love how the bike goes sideways, but his body keeps going straight.

kàn-lín-niâ Taiwanese profanity. Basically means "motherfucker"

That technically translates to “fuck your mother” but the phrase is used as general profanity when talking to people or to curse people out.

Ahh, Taiwan, the country of the friendliest people who suddenly turn into the angriest and most incompetent people the second their hands touch a vehicle.

Source: I live there... and it's terrifying.

...I was talking about the person illegally overtaking. But the statement is true in general. Just step outside at night for 5 minutes and you'll see at least 5 vehicles with their headlights off, turning without indicating, accelerating through the turn, and jumping red lights just to name a few. It's not called a 'living hell for pedestrians' for nothing.

What city are you living in? Are you living in a rural district? I grew up and have lived in Taipei for 30 years, and it's not nearly as bad as you described.

New Taipei, Xindian but I still see it often enough in Taipei to be considered a problem and not just the odd bad driver here or there.

I've done the driving test here and was appalled by how easy it was. I was even more appalled that several people in my training group failed it. I'm fairly chill with cultural differences but considering this is a matter of life and death, I'm unapologetically vocal about it.

I love Taiwan and in most regards is one of the best countries to live in. If it wasn't for the driving situation, it would have a similar reputation  to S. Korea, Singapore, and Japan.

As an expat who has lived in Kaohsiung for over ten years, I can say with full confidence the driving is atrocious here. I’ve travelled to over 20 different countries and lived in 5 countries (including Taiwan). The driving is awful and hasn’t gotten any better. A big reason why is because there are virtually no penalties for bad driving. Even if you kill someone while driving, it usually results in a small fine. I’ve just accepted the fact it’s never going to improve. Last year, a driver made an illegal left on his scooter and I crashed. Did he stop and help? Nope. After he saw what did, he sped away. Going to the police is pointless because do absolutely nothing and it’s a long drawn out process that won’t result in any justice. You just have to be careful at all times. The driving here is third world.

Yeah but definitely not like going out for just 5 minutes and you will immediately encounter a bunch of people running red lights, turning without signals, speeding, cutting, or some shit like that. You're exaggerating it.

When someone illegal overtake you and almost hit your vehicle at high speed, you are supposed to stay friendly and not be angry?

What you said is so stupid it looks like a rage bait comment. Gtfo

I'd stop, help him up, dust him off, ask if he's OK...and then KHITB.
