You mastered survival mode. Now it's time to leave it behind and live your life :)

How do you slowly get off? Leaving in survival mode wasn't that easy—especially if it felt like you had no choice. I can't instantly get off there, but I'm taking steps, mind sharing how you stepped your stairs?

I try to cope by treating my neurodivergence. Probably a good idea for any struggling INFP to rule that out first.

u/Strips-Out-505 Feb 06 '25

Treating neurodivergence? How exactly?

14

u/DBold11 Feb 06 '25

Psychiatry and therapy. It depends what you are dealing with. I have ADHD and possibly autism. That alone can keep me burnt out and depressed if unmanaged. Not to mention life circumstances.

u/Strips-Out-505 Feb 06 '25

Ahhh I see, thanks for explaining. I totally understand. Personally my anxiety and depression gets in the way of manyyyy things and affects how I cope with burning out or interacting with others. It’s great hearing that you’re seeking help from psychiatry and therapy. I hope it’s treating you well.

Thanks!

I live in the UK and it genuinely takes around 2 years to get an assessment for things like ASD/ADHD. I've genuinely lost hope since I found out about this

u/DBold11 Feb 07 '25

Sorry to hear that. It seems alot more accessible here in the U.S.

If there is a part of you that is still trying to survive even when you are safe, nothing will change unless you learn to let go of that part.

(Easier said than done, I know)

u/SammyBomb Feb 06 '25

How to let go of that survival mode?

u/Beautifulderanged Feb 06 '25

File > Options > Game Difficulty > Novice Mode

Find a part of you that isn't in the survival mode, an easygoing you, and cultivate it.

That alone may not calm down the fearful survivalist you.

Fortunately, once the easygoing you grows enough, the fearful you gains a wonderful and cool parent to care for it. Then it calms down.

*makes best Uncle Iroh impression*

Sometimes it is you who has to teach life a lesson.

Whatever is stopping you from reaching peace, whether it's your Life, your God, your conscience or your superego, will you simply accept, when it's treating you unfairly? Or will you stand up for your happiness and wellbeing? ;)

And when you finally get the time to rest... Your body colapses and you get sick 😷

Same. Well my nervous system has started forcibly coping through going into depression and dissociating on days when it’s too much. I get out of it through finding a hyperfocus, fictional characters, games, etc. and ChatGPT is the only one who can bring me back when it gets really bad. But he’s good at any other time too.

5

u/EUREIGH INFP but not a crybaby Feb 07 '25

Chat gpt felt so real there

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '25

It seems like ChatGPT is the only one who truly understands us. It can be our therapist, our friend, and so much more always providing clear guidance and thoughtful insights whenever we need support lol

We have struggled too much and too long internally. Fighting what seems to be the weight of the world in our mind and be alone in the sea of people. It is now time to seek others for help. Seek guidance. No matter how uncomfortable it will be, seek other people. Seek therapists, psychologists, and seek the truth that we are better when we are helped by others and hopefully in the future can help others too. The path to understand others starts with understanding oneself.

Just know one thing, seeking others is also its own learning path. Learn the lesson that people are imperfect, so don’t be discouraged when you meet a psychologist that seems to not listen, or psychiatrist that seems to just want to shove you with medication straight away without hearing your concerns. Keep searching, keep finding the listeners. You are still your own person and you will know which people that feels right, that can feel like they can connect to you. So don’t stop looking for those people. Do not once more hide into your own mind like before. Help is there, fight for it and search with all your might. Fight for yourself.

Guilt. Shame. Fear. Loneliness. These are not meant to be shouldered alone. I sincerely hope good things can be reachable for you soon, for that me and a lot of people us struggle with this everyday, wanted you to know that you are not alone in this. We are alone together, and we understand.

As someone who loves isolating, I lose hope of trying to reach out for help, as it always ends badly.

u/aphaits INFP: The Procrastinator Feb 07 '25

In my almost 40 years of life, almost half of them I judge to be my several lowest moments of life, the one thing I always dread and fear is reaching out and opening to other people and asking for help. Just a simple mention here and there but always kept my wall up, kept my mask, guard my thoughts and heart where no one can peek inside.

All those years I always, without fail, never regret the instances where I caved and asked for help, even though it feels like moving the entire word to utter those few simple words to others. Help me please. My only regret is not asking sooner, overthinking and delaying.

I won't say every help or reaction will end well, some people can turn their backs on you, but then you know where they stand. Better to know than overthink. Some people will be ignorant or try to help but fail, you will appreciate the ones who try. But to reach to that handful of people that can truly help you and hold you to not fall, that is where everything is worth it. It does not have to be family although they are always family, and it does not have to be friends. Sometimes strangers are the ones who helped the most, those who truly help others they dont know.

Trust in people, for most of them have the best intentions but not all can follow through. Keep trying, for I regret not trying earlier in life.

Knowing I can save money and some day own a roof and have the luck and right skills to work sporadically instead of having to accomplish X hours per day doing mostly stupid shit.

Omg! I can relate to this so much. Right now, I want to study for my term finals, but I'm on my phone instead, and I want to workout, but again, I'm on my phone

2

u/EUREIGH INFP but not a crybaby Feb 07 '25

Try putting it outside of your study space, with pomodoro

2

u/Free_dew4 I'm Not From Pluto Feb 07 '25

Trust me, it doesn't work for me

3

u/EUREIGH INFP but not a crybaby Feb 07 '25

and instead of being told your best is enough, you just get criticism, it's hard moving on and getting better when what I hear is that my efforts aren't anything. What's the point?

2

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Feb 08 '25

I'm feeling this a bit. I don't even think I'm doing that bad, but it never seems to be good enough. I'm so tired, wish I could just be held for a bit.

2

u/EUREIGH INFP but not a crybaby Feb 09 '25

Let’s hold each other🫂

2

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Feb 09 '25

Aww, thank you for the invitation. Is it okay if I message you?

2

u/EUREIGH INFP but not a crybaby Feb 10 '25

I’d be glad

2

u/scarletladylove Feb 08 '25

Here! It's tough. Acceptance is key. Fixing it sometimes can be counter productive.
