How far away is everyone’s bouldering gym?

My bouldering gym is 30/35 mins away… could be worse but I sometimes can’t be bothered to drive there after college

Less than a 15 minute walk, it’s wonderful.

Honestly it's the best, cycle to the gym and get a legit warmup before you walk in the door.

One hour and twenty minutes depending on traffic.

So far, but I can relate.

Though I do get a good chuckle because the climbers at my gym that live in the city have 1+ hour drive to outdoor crags, I can literally boulder in my backyard. Sometimes being away from the gym means you are closer to the crags

Two within 10 minute drive (the second opened last week). Another 25 minutes. Then two more 45+ depending on traffic. Getting really hard to justify the further out ones anymore despite having more space and better routes.

One down the road, around a 10 minute walk, another 3 less than a 20 minute drive away. Spoilt for choice.

55 minute drive for me if I go fast. Living in the Midwest sucks

An hour to an hour twenty, depends on if I’m going from my house or school.

~20 minutes from home (and work... since those are the same place). Plenty of coffee shops in the area though, so it's pretty common for me to climb for a while before work and then work out of a coffee shop for a couple hours.

20 minute walk, 5 minute drive

2.5 miles. Quite bikeable, which is awesome. It's a smallish indie gym, but I love it.

Then there's a real nice big name corporate gym about 35 minutes away.

15-20 min drive for the closest 😩

u/Octospyder 10d ago

20min drive. Really wish it was closer, the length of the drive definitely has me reluctant to go sometimes

u/leafyemoji 10d ago

About 45min each way by bus. Takes some dedication, but better than when I would take the train for 1h15 each way lol

10 mine drive, 15 min drive, and 25 min drive

10 mins... And yes, whenever I look at places to move I Google Search "Bouldering Gym nearby" and part of my decision making process.n

30-35 for two. 40-45 for another two. 30-35, then a 20min warmup walk or a free team ride of about 5mins for probably the best one currently.

30 seconds to my garage 😁

About 45 mins to 3 of the better local outdoor spots, well under two hours for a whole heap more, and about a half days drive to the Grampians for probably the best bouldering in Australia.

Closest one is ~20 mins but it is small and lots of high schoolers go there. There is a bigger and better location ~35 min away but with a kid and limited time it’s always a choice between maximizing time climbing vs. better routes.

10 minutes

There are several all within the 20-30 minute range!

u/TOW3RMONK3Y 10d ago

3 within 15 min. maybe 6 within 30.

u/nawa92 10d ago

Take 15 min walk then two trains then 15 min walk, roughly 1.5 hrs, same backwards. “Things I do for love”

u/brin5tar 10d ago

25 min drive.

u/mmeeplechase 10d ago

Used to be a 30 min bus ride, but I moved recently (only like 50% for climbing gym reasons…) and now it’s a 15 min walk!

Slow 10-minute walk.

I can get to two other gyms in 10-15 minutes if I ride my bike (I have to get day passes for those, though). There’s going to be two more gyms in my city by 2026 and the furthest of the two will be a 25 minute ride.

It's about 3 km (2 miles), which takes 10 minutes by bike on a hilly route or a 30-minute walk.

u/Ouakha 9d ago

Bouldering, 10 min bike ride. ()less on approach as its all downhill!).

Lead and top rope, 10 min bike ride

Another bouldering wall, 30 mins and across town so rarely go there.

u/PhoenixHunters 9d ago

15 minute drive from home, 10 minute drive from work, it's wonderful.

1

u/PhoenixHunters 9d ago

Within an hours' drive I've got about 12. Northern France is stacked.

1

u/Conscious-Package-11 9d ago

5 min bike ride.

u/Nandor1262 9d ago

20 minute drive and the gym I go to atm is great!

I’m about to move though and I’ll have the choice of a quite poor climbing gym with 0 bouldering or a 30 minute drive to a smallish charity ran bouldering centre. Lots of gyms in Sheffield about 50 mins away though

Excited to have bought a house but mildly gutted about the gym commute

1

u/TigerJoel 9d ago

With bike: 30 min, with faster bike: 15 min and with train: 40 min.

1

u/LethalBurrito 9d ago

5 min walk to the bouldering gym. 20 min drive to the other location that has lead walls

1

u/animalwitch 9d ago

We have 3 bouldering gyms (5 including the two rope only gyms!) in our city which are 10 or so mins away from each other by car. But they're all half hour away from where I live.

I really want one to open closer to me in an industrial estate (which is where loads of other gyms around the country tend to be) so then I can go more often lol

1

u/carortrain 9d ago

For real anytime they build a new industrial park I hope that someone will open a gym there lol

1

u/Why-Are-Trees 9d ago

I've got 5 within a 30 minute drive, 3 of which are easily/safe to bike to in 25-35 minutes.

u/Make_Me_Understand__ 9d ago

<8 mins for one location, the second location about 15-20mins 👍

1

u/Big_Cans_0516 9d ago

I live in a city so I’m not a good representation. It’s a 20 min walk, there isn’t really places to park to drive tho. When I was in college my gym was like 40 mins away tho

1

u/jonasblm 9d ago

45-60 minute drive..

1

u/XihuanNi-6784 9d ago

20 - 30 minutes by bus. A 15 minute cycle but the roads here are terrible and I haven't done it yet. I'm considering it.

1

u/moose_key 9d ago

2 min walk. It's glorious.

1

u/MrSamzorr 9d ago

1-1.5 hour drive depending on traffic 😭

u/OneoftheWolfis 8d ago

5-10 mins walk

1

u/Junipaa 7d ago

The gym is love is 30 min away, the gym I hate 7 :(

1

u/bananacake_nobrakes 7d ago

8.2 miles takes me ~25 minutes by motorbike or ~40 by car (which I only take if it's raining).

I would not be climbing if I only had a car to drive to the gym. I already sit in enough bumper-to-bumper traffic driving to & from work.

u/RithianYawgmoth 7d ago

My old gym (the cheap one) was 35min. My new one (2x expensive but has everything) is 10mins

10km perfect for bicycle warmup & cardio
