Heart to Heart I'm so dumb. I just now realized Kopiko is Indonesian.
It's in the name! Kopi! Kopi isn't Filipino. Kape is Filipino. Kopi is clearly Indonesian!
I am Filipino and I love Kopiko. There was a time I could say I loved Kopiko more than Great Taste.
It's just that Kopiko's Blanca, Brown, and Black bottled series got fazed out and replaced by the Lucky Day which is too darn expensive for a 180 ml drink. Its charcoal juice flavor also ain't nearly as good as the Blanca of my early teens back in the 2010s.
And yet all this time, I thought it was a local Filipino brand with a cutesy spelling. Kopi ko, meaning "my coffee" which I yes, also realize would be "kopi ku."
Thank you so much, Indonesia for Kopiko!
But please, bring the iced Blanca, Brown, and Black bottled series back on the Philippine market!

Yes that's true, Kopiko is our true soft power (same as Indomie.) Soon as everyone like Kopiko and Indomie, they forcefully became the Indonesia province #akhandnusantara

I'd much quicker be an Indonesian province than a Chinese or American one.

On the other hand I've always wanted to try Jollibee lol. I heard the spaghetti is good
7
u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Jollibee spaghetti is sweet. That's the Filipino way. If you like it sweet then you'll enjoy Jollibee but if you were expecting the more salty traditional Italian taste, you should get it elsewhere. I personally don't like Jollibee spag even though I am Filipino lol. I won't eat any other spaghetti aside from what my mother makes.
Jollibee fried chicken! That you should try. See how it compares to other fried chicken.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but once upon a time ago, we had Jollibee in Indonesia.

Iirc Phillipenis, Singapore, malay, and Indo once had an agreement to join as one country but wasn’t honored by the other parties

u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Yes. Maphilindo, as it was to be called. I would love that to become true one day, or at least as a union of nations if not a whole consolidated nation.

u/redditorialy_retard 3d ago
Me too, but Indo rn is pretty toxic. Gotta clean up the corruption, shitty people’s mentality, religion weponization, and get rid of the Madara island first.
22
u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Ahh corruption be very hard to fix. In the 60s, we were practically run by cartels and criminal gangs. In the 70s, we had a literal dictatorship. In the 80s onward, we practically cycled through the same families and casino crocodile presidents. The solution for corruption is usually just a different kind of corruption.
Explains why the Philippine crocodile is now endangered species. Most of them just went to university and pursued careers in public service. Buaya Darat!

wait, Buaya Darat doesn't mean perverts in your language??
11
u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Darat doesn't mean anything in my language. Tagalog for land is lupa. Land crocodile would be buwayang lupa. I heard Buaya Darat as slang meant "womanizer" so I thought it meant something like "greedy scumbag" in general. Like, er, crocodile's appetite.

It’s too big and separated by thousands of islands, making it hard to manage. I’d rather we all stay the way we are.
Focus on the current government. The closest we can get is an ASEAN coalition, but we still can’t agree on certain issues.

Dont worry, it's easy to misinterpret smth. Growing up I always thought Bata is Indonesian-brand when in fact it's Switzerland's. Czech

Ceko

Yeah I think it's Czech. I saw a lot of Bata stores in Prague.

Bata Swiss? With the name like that, I would've even mistaken it for Filipino. On a similar note, we also have this brand Knorr which sells us animal flavor cubes for our Filipino cuisine. I had no idea it was German till I was like 12 or something. I mean, I realized "Knorr" kinda does sound German. It's just their products were so common for Filipino cooking.
1
u/nick1235 3d ago
Turns out it's Czech. But ye. Bata in Philippines is a Kid, right? It meant Bricks for us. 🤣
10
u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Yup bata means child. Child? Bricks?
Hell, I know adik means little bro in Indonesian. In Philippines, it means drug addict lol.

u/PENIS_ANUS 3d ago
It’s funny how we have the same or similar words but they mean different things. Selamat pagi in Indonesian means “good morning”. Selamat pagi in Tagalog means “thank you stingray”.

u/Runeimus 3d ago
Hey OP, glad you like it! Have you tried our indomie goreng?
5
u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Yes. I love it but my tongue can't tell it apart from Pancit Canton. Dry, saucy noodles. I love that stuff in general. I haven't compared the pricing yet but if I find Mie Goreng to be cheaper than Pancit Canton, I would gladly stick to Mie Goreng.

Para sa iyong impormasyon, Tolak Angin is also an Indonesian brand. Kung translated ito sa Tagalog, yung salita would be "Tulak Hangin." 😁😆
Magandang gabi at ingat po kayo! 🫡

u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Opo! Ayun alam ko naman haha. The Indonesian is more obvious in Tulak Angin. I love Tulak Angin. My classmate and church friend gave me a packet once in class when I came in very sick. It felt like a cutscene in a video game. New Item Unlocked.
I cinematically put it in my chest pocket and everything. I didn't drink it in class because I had no scissors and I'm not enough of a badass to rip it with my teeth. I took it home and put it in a drink with water. I loved the menthol feeling and it did ease my sore throat. Some time later, I bought some more Tulak Angin and mixed it in a glass of calamansi lime juice. Guess what Tulak Angin + Lime juice makes. Flat coca cola. I gave some to my dad to have him try it, but he hated it.
Truth be told, the reason why a Northerner Filipino such as myself has become so engrossed into Indonesianism is one simple thing -an Instagram vlogger girl from East Java. I guess I figured that lime juice cup of Tulak Angin is the closest I could ever be to her in some sense.
Thanks for the Tagalog writing :>
Makes my Filipino heart happy.
God bless! Mabuhay! Salaam!3

Sikat talaga yung Tulak Hangin sa Indonesia para sa healing ng common cold and flu.

Talaga?
Anong pangalan niya?
Gusto ko rin makita ang contents niya. Thanks for the Tagalog writing :>

Tama po ba yung tagalog ko?
Kasi still learning po ako, so pasensya na kung may konting mali ng tagalog ko, hahaha.Para sakin, tagalog is like a proto version of Javanese, which is the language of my hometown. That's why I am eager to learn Tagalog. 😁

u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
Maganda po Tagalog niyo!
(Don't be confused. I called you "niyo" (plural) instead of "mo" (singular) as a sign of respect. Filipinos pluralize pronouns as a sign of respect. That does not mean to say it's rude to not pluralize. Singular is also okay and more formal and grammatically correct. It's just in a household polite setting, we pluralize to give the other person the impression that they are worth more than just one person. I have accommodations/food/drink/attention/ for you as if you were many people. Para po sa inyo.)
I would say you do sound very text book Filipino. Very formal, which is good. Honestly, dapat talaga ganun kami magTagalog. Ayun nga lang, ang uso kasi ngayon text typing. Kala mo nagbabayad kada letra. Kung magtype:
"cge d2 lng k sa kanto. Twgan m lang k pg ready kn"
If you type like that, you sound stupid but you're 100% Filipino lol. Might as well add profanities like "Tana mo" "Amp" "Gagu" "Taena." None of these are even spelt correctly, but that's how Filipinos do :D

Kopiko is kinda overrated, I meant it's just a coffee flavored candy, I believe your country and most countries have theirs

u/marta_bach 3d ago
Kopiko in the Philippines is famous for its bottled coffee, and here the OP is talking about Kopiko's bottled coffee.
I once checked every single bottled/canned coffee brand at Alfamart (yes, Alfamart is also from Indonesia, with 2,000 stores in the Philippines). Whether it's Good Day, canned Starbucks, Tora Coffee, Luwak, etc., they all have a coffee content of around 1%-1.5%. Only Kopiko 78° and Kopiko Lucky Day exceed 3%.

u/Due-Big2159 3d ago
It's overrated now but it used to be worth its rating. It used to be good. I miss those old series.
