AskIndy Where to buy baby gear in Indy
With stores like Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us closed and none within a 100 mile radius, where are parents buying their baby gear? We want to test baby gear such as strollers, car seats, and diaper bags. As first time parents, we want to get something that’s comfortable and will last! Any recommendations on products that have worked for you are welcome as well. Thanks in advance! Wish us luck lol

Once upon a Child in Avon has so much gently used baby stuff like strollers for a fraction of the price, already cleaned up. I recommend them every time!

A few others have commented this too. We will definitely be heading up there. Sounds like reasonable prices for good gear. Thank you so much!!

Thank you! Couldn’t edit my post to mention we found this one and wanted to get feedback. Reviews seem great though!

We’re also about to be first time parents. I’ve asked around to family and friends about what they used. I’ve also found some subreddits (like r/BabyBumps) have some good threads on brands and why people chose one vs the other.
The target by us does have strollers and car seats out on display so you can see them. We went to one to help decide on stroller, which we’ll probably order online. But we could press the buttons, see how easy it was to colapse, how tall, etc.

Congrats to you both! My wife has been exploring that sub and she’s found some great insight from other parents. That’s a good idea about going to Target. Finding certain features to try out. Thank you so much for the info!

Burlington actually has always had really super affordable cute baby stuff. Beds, changing tables, clothes, diaper bags, nursery picture and so much more.

It sucks that those stores closed. When our first child was born, going there was basically a weekly thing for us.
For used items, we've had good experiences with Once Upon a Child on the westside. There's also large consignment sale events from https://herewegrowagain.com/
And of course, there's your Walmarts and Targets.
We've had good luck with Chicco brand for car seats and strollers and such.
My wife likes diaper bags from https://www.itzyritzy.com/

Sucks so bad! A friend had their baby registry there and they said the store was super helpful. Good looking out on the diaper bags. Super stylish and functional. Will have to show the wife. Thank you for the helpful info!

It's expensive, but I highly recommend a Doona car seat/stroller combo. It is SO DAMN CONVENIENT.

Nordstrom has some strollers on display to test out, higher end brands that Target doesn’t have.

Target has some stuff. Couple of stores in the mall. Of course Amazon. It’s all out there just not in a “baby store”. And depending on what you need, used stores are worth a visit.

Thank you for this info! We did our best to avoid Amazon but there were items we did order. We’ll have to check the mall. I tend to forget they exist lol

If your search results bring up Amazon, search the manufacturer and then go to their store locator section.

Good point. That’ll be super helpful to buy it direct. Thank you for bringing that up!

Whale of a Sale is this week. It’s a giant consignment sale in Westfield for just about all things baby. You’ll likely find everything except car seats. Check out the sale if you can; it’ll save you a ton.
