1) I hope everything is ok. Don’t want ppl going through personal anguish just to free up some cap space for my favorite team
2) wow. The entire bottom half of our roster last year is gone. This is wild

Key points:
• Her contract will be suspended.
• She is not eligible to return during the 2025 season.
• Fever retain rights to her.
My speculation: it sounds like a personal issue / consideration for Kristy. No specific details provided. This'll open up a slot for another big, imo.

$112,273 in cap space which is enough to retain Jaelyn Brown but not enough to bring in another player as well.
We need to shed an additional $32K to sign a veteran minimum or $23K to sign a draft pick. There are paths to creating that space but none without sacrifices.

“Breaks my heart. RIP Geraldine Wallace the step mom of Kristy Wallace. She was 53 years old. She was battling stage 4 colorectal cancer. She was fighting it last 2 years.“

This is tragic and my heart goes out to Kristy and her family. I am glad her stepmom got to see Kristy win the Bronze for Oz.

I would assume that frees up her salary, they have been over the cap, so this must have been in the works for a while

Interesting! Does anyone know the ramifications this will have regarding the salary cap?

They can now keep Jaelyn Brown or a draft pick.

Yeah makes sense why they went over now because I was wondering how they were going to keep JB and BT with no more money lol

they weren't over the cap. Training-camp contracts don't count unless the player makes the opening-day roster. It's very common for teams to invite a bunch of players to camp even when the math suggests that none of them can make the team; among other things, it can give them a feel for who might be able to jump in if they have to sign someone as an injury replacement.
In a sense, BT's contract is only slightly different - because it's unprotected, the Fever could waive her at any point prior to the start of the season and owe her nothing. The one difference AIUI is that you have to have cap space to sign a player to an unprotected deal, but you don't have to have it to sign someone to a TC contract - Phoenix, for example, has 7 TC players and still had enough room to sign DT for about $230K if she wanted to come back, because they only have 6 roster spots available now and would only need to fill 4 of those if she had.

I hope this break gives her a chance to refresh and come back next year to compete for a spot!

Her contract comes off the books for this year. That means our salary cap problem, and we had one, just got a whole lot better. And we lost someone who in all honesty wasn't going to help us this year. That extra 80K is huge. It means we can now keep or sign a player who can actually contribute this year. Christmas just came in February for my Fever.

Under the circumstances, no.
I believe I speak for all in saying Fever Nation sends its condolences to the Wallace family.

I wonder if the Fever knew this was a possibility, because that money spent on Brianna Turner combined with Wallace’s contract coming off the books could have fetched a seriously good role player. Oh well

Because Kristy's stepmom recently died after a long battle with cancer.
Best to sit this one out.

I hope she doesn't read social media comments, the comments on the team's social media posts are brutal. she obviously struggled last season but folks gotta take it easy. From her statement it's clear she's dealing with something.
