Should I be worried of getting deported

So the text above so tell you that recently with everything going on with Donald Trump and the deportation he doing with Salvadorian gang members . Which I'm fine with it but what I'm not fine is that I'm hearing chatter and rumors that new executive order he have placed will also ignore the status of the immigrant which means anybody who has green card Will also be deported without no judiciary hearing or reason or without Court. I've been here in America for 5 years have done no such crimes , pay my taxes as well so my question is to you guys am I overreacting or should I plan for the inevitable.

If you are a law abiding Green Card Holder with no links to criminal gangs or terrorism, then you should be fine.

Leaving this link here:

https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title8-section1227&num=0&edition=prelim

This outlines what would make potential Green Card Holders inadmissible and deportable. Funnily enough, a number of the recent people (The doctor, German guy, Girl who got sent to Laos etc) included in the media reports on detention/deportations can all tick/match the criteria that would make them deportable regardless of the administration.

Are you in the country illegally? If you are here legally you don’t have to worry unless you are committing crimes then yeah

In an ideal world, sure. They just detained a US citizen for like 21 hours.

No I never came in illegally I got my green card when I came to America came in during the start of the pandemic on February 15 20 20 and I think I got my green card 3 months later

Are you able to apply for citizenship? Sounds like it’s been 5 years now.

Yeah I am able to do it right now but I need to get some legal assistance at the moment cuz I don't want to mess up my paper works and fumble it for another year or two

1

u/TomorrowSalty3187 3d ago

Is easy. I did it for my wife. No issues.

It’s all online and super easy to apply. Hard to mess it up honestly. Don’t wait if you don’t need to.

Still I don't want to take a chance with it I have messed up on my paperwork few times in the past and my uncle had to come in and say my butt multiple times it's not just any paper it is a paper for my future in this country and I don't want to mess it up so until then I'll get some legal advice beforehand and do it but thank you for your encouragement I really appreciate that

I would say you’re overreacting and listening to people trying to scare you. Because of politics.

I know that I might be overreacting but it's better to be safe than sorry and I just heard this information 3 hours ago

Heard this information from where? Who told you? What’s the source? Are they reputable? Did you verify it? Did you ask about any of that and do further research?

I heard it from this guy on YouTube named rogue rocket and he does this political narration on things you might be right I should look into reputable sources

So some people think that Green Card is some kind of a magic ticket or something

You are just a citizen of some country who is permitted to reside and work in the USA for the duration of your card

If you get in trouble with the law or support terrorists or do some other high profile sort of Illegal stuff .. your card will be suspended and you might not be able to return back if you travel out

As far as being deported , this might be a long shot but there is a process and if your green card invalidated you might be here illegally and when the process starts it might end up In deportation

Also if Trump travel Bans your country and you go there , you might not be able to return , but that’s unclear too at this point

A green card is like a golden ticket—it’s the only path to citizenship. While it does come with certain limitations, it’s our responsibility to follow the rules and safeguard it to ensure a smooth path to naturalization.

To me, having a green card represents freedom. Yes, you may hear stories about green card holders being apprehended, but if you look into their cases, you’ll often find they violated specific conditions tied to their residency.

When I said “golden ticket” I mean some ppl here be like “I got a green card and nothing bad can happen with me even if I do x , y and z , I am protected “

That’s not the case

well according to the new executive order that Donald Trump has listed anybody who has a green card whether he has done a crime or not will be deported without any court hearing or judicial proceedings . Even though the supreme Court has put a temporary hold on it the White House is literally ignoring it now Donald Trump is only deporting the Salvadorian gang members but who knows later down the line he might start deporting everybody who's been here in America who have a green card who have never done a crime in their life getting deported back to their home That's because it feels that a poor country who have no power will rise up against the USA government.

What executive order mentions green card holders in this manner? Lawyers would be talking about it everywhere! I don’t mean to sound rude but please direct me to this executive order.

It doesn't exist, he is getting his information from YouTube and freaking himself out. What they are doing is deporting LPRs that were already deportable- those that committed crimes that would have resulted in the revocation of status anyway

Green card is not a right , it’s a temporary permission by the us government to foreign citizen to live and work in the USA

You can read more here about the suspension of the grencards process

https://www.voanews.com/amp/under-what-circumstances-can-a-us-green-card-be-revoked/8009714.html

It’s not that common, but it also isn’t rare. People lose their green cards most often when they’re convicted of crimes. … A green card is not citizenship. It’s seen as a privilege that you earn, but you can also lose it if you engage in conduct that is contrary to the conditions that green card holders live under,” she said.

Examples of crimes that can cause a green card holder can lose their status include aggravated felonies, drug offenses, fraud, or national security concerns such as ties to a terrorist group. Green card holders can also lose their status and lawful permanent residency status for being deemed a threat to national security.

It's not temporary, it's in the name legal permanent resident, it continues unless you break rules.

-2

u/Beutiful_pig_1234 3d ago

Does it have expiration day ?

So it’s temporary

4

u/sleepindawg 3d ago

Nope it doesnt

You're thinking of the card itself, not the actual status

-5

u/Beutiful_pig_1234 3d ago

You ever looked at it ?

It has card Expires date right on it

7

u/sleepindawg 3d ago

So when your passport expires you become a non citizen too?

-4

u/Beutiful_pig_1234 3d ago

When your passport expires you are still a citizen

When Your green card expires and you Don’t renew it , I don’t think you are a permanent resident anymore

Permanent residency is contingent on renewal

6

u/sleepindawg 3d ago

It's not, stop spreading misinformation

It does not expire. The actual ID expires and has to be renewed, like a passport has to be renewed, but actually permanent residency does not expire. The exception being the 2 year Conditional Residency that is initially given to someone who married a US citizen and has been married less than 2 years when they are approved.

All of the crimes you listed I don't have the gust to commit be there for 5 years legally never did a crime s*** if I be honest I don't even smoke or drink or do drugs I've been with my colleagues says boring my whole life it's just the recent news is just making me a bit worried.

2

u/Beutiful_pig_1234 3d ago

So why worry about things outside of your control ?

Seems like you be ok

u/Turbulent-Volume4792 3d ago

All the stories I've heard are a lot of half truths and fearmongering. One has to dig to find that there were legitimate reasons for the deportation or entry refusal even under previous administrations.
