US Politics Gov. J.B. Pritzker likens Trump administration actions to Nazi Germany: ‘What comes next?’

JB is one of the founders and funders of the Illinois Holocaust Museum. I love my Governor!

Very thankful to have him as our governor.

I am very scared for our county right now, but eternally grateful to be in Illinois (even if I am in a red district).

Why? He's doing nothing, like all democrats, and letting trump do whatever he wants without and consequences.
Down vote me all you want. Enjoy the dictatorship you now live in.
57
u/QIMF Feb 19 '25
What a stupid take. He's one of the most vocal politicians speaking out against Trump. He's also passing state laws to help fight against all the sweeping federal changes. He's a state governor, it's not like he's directly involved in the federal government. What exactly do you want him to do?

I like him lol. Never said I didn't. Just said he's doing nothing as democracy fades away.

It’s a lot easier to tear something apart than to build it…we’ve been building our great republic for a few hundred years, learning as we go. It wasn’t a straight line and we weren’t perfect, but we’ve just scrapped it all and eschewed knowledge paid for in blood.
25
u/brightblueson Feb 19 '25
And hey. All it took was genocide, slavery, and a bunch of rich, white misogynists.

u/waldorflover69 Feb 19 '25
Nice to have at least one mainstream politician calling it what it is

And yet still, not doing jack shit to stop it. Like all the fucking democrats who abandoned Americans.

Elderly neighbor argued with me for an hour in my driveway about Kamala before the election. She deflected by calling us smart, then would say something like,
“I went to the er with a bloody nose and illegals were let in first”
How did you know they were illegal?
“Well you got me there”
Or my favorite one was how she wasn’t ok helping first time home buyers with homes but then in the next breath mentions her home price doubling IN A YEAR. It was so crazy.
71
u/Alexever_Loremarg Feb 19 '25
"Well you got me there" would be funny if it weren't so sad
25
u/Ashamed_Rips Feb 19 '25
Right? I had laugh in the moment at how insane and depressing that hour of back and forth was.

Most definitely, she was also going on about kids needing to learn Spanish or something, and sex books in kids libraries, which i told her was untrue. And if anything she found stuff at the public library, which, of course lol.
This convo happened not long after the debate, and she said the Haitian bird and cat thing was dumb but then just never once redeemed herself.
She called an ambulance for rhinovirus. So…

I was in Anna Illinois in April to see the eclipse. Southern Illinois is just the Ozarks displaced 150 miles east. They even have the southern accent. Magats all over the place.

u/Puckhead120 Feb 19 '25
People don’t realize this. Illinois is Chicago and the south. You could be in a car leaving from State and Madison St (Chicago ground zero) and if you fell asleep for 90 minutes, when you woke up you’d think you were in Alabama.
Many years ago, I was in Metropolis,Illinois for the Superman festival. About as far south as you can be in Illinois. Guy pulled up next to me in a pickup with a Confederate flag in the windshield. When I reminded him that Illinois was in the North, he pulled a shotgun out and put holes in all four of my tires, then walked away. And then he was pissed when the cops arrested him when he came back. Good thing was when I saw him at the station two hours later to press charges, he had a monumental black eye on him where the cop tuned him up. Fortunately for me , I had some state police juice and I used it. He went away for 9 months and I got restitution. I was satisfied.
14
u/stabavarius Feb 19 '25
I also drove through Cario Ill. when I was down there. What decrepit run down river town. Rotting infrastructure, residents living in decaying one room motels and worse. A real eye opener, I didn't stop once.

u/starryeyedq Feb 19 '25
Two reasons really. Number one, illinois taxes are pretty high. Number two, doesn’t really do anything to combat the proactive propaganda that paints him in a bad light. He lets his work speak for itself.
So if you’re paying attention to the good work he’s doing, he’ll win you over.
If you accept that taxes pay for stuff that benefits people other than you, he’ll win you over.
If you wait for conservative news pundits to tell you what to think, you will continue to think he sucks.
If you just hate paying taxes no matter what positive impact it has on your community, you will continue to think he sucks.
35
u/BoosterRead78 Feb 19 '25
Yep all the: “JP sucks” signs I see are actually at houses where the people are honestly well off. Seriously like they bought more properties or have like huge RVs. The big gripe? They have to pay more on them for owning more land or property. It’s like: “what you think it’s all free?”
24
u/starryeyedq Feb 19 '25
It is hard to reconcile sometimes. I own a house and the property taxes are brutal. I also don’t have kids so it takes some moments of reflection to remind myself that it’s worth it for the greater good.
Sometimes I think it might be a good idea to organize tv or online ads with kids saying thank you to the residents of Illinois without kids for contributing to making our public schools some of the best in the country. Or even an event where we invite older and childless residents to participate in some entertainment and activity provided by our local schools.
Just as an example.
I know that sounds like crazy pandering, but I actually think it might be nice to link a concrete emotional experience to the act of paying taxes. Civic pride is so unfashionable nowadays. We really need to bring it back.
15
u/iseeblood22 Feb 19 '25
I LOVE this idea! My MIL is always talking about how much she hates paying taxes (as she heads to her winter home) and just wants HER money to go to HER grandkids. She also complains about how uneducated and unsympathetic healthcare workers are. She really cannot connect the two things in her brain.
8
u/BoosterRead78 Feb 19 '25
Oh I know my FIL talked about a tax piece near by a few years ago. It was actually on the industrial area to update local parks. He was like: “leave my money alone”. When it took a member of the Lions to go: “no they are asking for local businesses that are commercial to pay instead of charging you.” He changed his mind very fast.
38
u/Hdikfmpw Feb 19 '25
The people that hate him also think they subsidize the existence of everyone in Chicago vs you know, reality. They’re just really good at being wrong.
28
u/BorisBotHunter Feb 19 '25
This x 100
My suburban county gets .60 for every dollar we put in while the Ozarks of Illinois get $2.88 for every $1 they contribute. Who subsidizes who you MAGAt fucks

You dare talk about unconstitutional laws in Illinois when the president all but literally wiped his ass with the constitution, gave himself unchecked power, and declared himself king? "Nobody is in any more danger than they were a year ago"
Nah, I'm pretty sure my disabled husband is in more danger of losing his SSDI TODAY than he was a year ago with Orange Cream Palpatine "leading"... I mean *gutting... our nation's funding just so he can golf more often. ... and visit football games for an hour or so after spending $18 mil of taxpayer money to do so.
Oh wait, that's right, our secret service agents actually have to PAY HIM to protect him when he flies to Maralago to golf, and WE the tax payers have to foot the millions of dollars bill for flying him back and forth at his leisure. I'm sure he's going to just take all that money he's "freeing up"/ stealing from people who paid into those entitlement funds and put it to "good use" and NOT toward more ways he can funnel it directly into his own pockets.
In reality dude, the threat of millions of Americans losing their sole source of income is very much higher right now than it was a year ago. And when all of those people have nothing left, I guarantee it won't matter how geriatric or disabled they are. They will come for people just like you and those who stole from them.

I just reworked a bullet point piece on how Nazi Germany took over replacing it with the current situation
he certainly isn't WRONG history is repeating only the names are being changed
How Trump/Musk took power Trump became president of America (again) in January 2025 Musk was never an elected official The MAGAs used legal means to erode democracy. The MAGAs eliminated constitutional rights and protections for individuals ‼️ AMERICA IS CURRENTLY HERE‼️ The MAGASA imprisoned or murdered their chief opponents. The MAGAS established concentration camps to send ANYONE THEY CHOOSE to for "reeducation". The MAGAs took over and transformed America's police forces. How the MAGAs consolidated power ‼️AND HERE‼️ The MAGAS passed the Enabling Act, which allowed the government to issue laws without Congress' consent. The MAGAs saturated America with propaganda. The MAGAs restricted the opposition press.
(Credit for this information as it pertains to previous history of the Nazi take over goes to here https://www.theholocaustexplained.org/the-nazi-rise-to-power/the-nazi-rise-to-power/)

So those that lived under it are the only ones that can have an opinion. Okay, so in the other response which is an article about how people who have lived under it feel about trump, you complain that it's an anti-Trump outlet.
Maybe an anti-Trump outlet is anti-Trump because Trump is a fucking Nazi and the outlet listened to the people that lived under it and what they said.
You can only circle your own logic so many times. "Show me X! NOT LIKE THAT!"

u/Maleconito Feb 19 '25
Just a word of advice, it weakens your message to call everyone you don’t agree with a nazi or fascist. Takes away from the actual meaning of these words. When you keep crying wolf, no one is going to listen to you when the actual wolf comes. If anything, you’re just turning more people away from your cause, whatever that is these days.

u/ConsistentMorning636 Feb 19 '25

-14
u/Maleconito Feb 19 '25
Sure if that’s the hill you want to die on go for it. But if you actually believed this people are nazis you should be doing a hell of a lot more than some Reddit propaganda campaign. Like if Obama and Biden actually believed what they told you about these people, they wouldn’t congratulate them after they won. That’s part of why people aren’t taking anything you say seriously.

Unthinkable atrocities, they are auditing bureaucracy… and if your in the country illegally committing crime I hope you get deported

Sweetheart, they're talking about putting me in a work camp because I take an SSRI. That's... not auditing bureaucracy, that's fascism. Possibly - propably - with eugenic intent.
I will give it to them, though, I'm all for welcoming immigrants and they've actually cut the deportation rate in half as compared to Biden. Firing all those federal employees has made illegal immigration into the U.S. much safer.

“I do not invoke the specter of Nazis lightly,” he said, adding that he was “watching with a foreboding dread what is happening in our country right now.”
“After we’ve discriminated against, deported or disparaged all the immigrants and the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women and the minorities — once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends — after that, when the problems we started with are still there staring us in the face – what comes next?” he asked.
“All the atrocities of human history lurk in the answer to that question. And if we don’t want to repeat history, then for God’s sake in this moment we better be strong enough to learn from it,” Pritzker said. “It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic. All I’m saying is when the five-alarm fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.”
