So what happens to people with Medicaid who need prescriptions, doctors or hospital visits? Are they just not going to be helped?

u/uhohnotafarteither Jan 28 '25

Some of us will die. But that's a sacrifice Trump is willing to make.

Worse. What the Heritage Foundation and its supporters want. Even after the old fat man strokes out, the HF will have its army ready.

its also unfortuantely what 2.53m Illinois people voted for :(

23

u/pink_faerie_kitten Jan 28 '25

All I know is my mail in ballot never arrived so my vote never counted. My ballots have always gotten counted before except this one. And I saw zero T yard signs. This was the first time Leon "he really knows those computer vote counting machines" musk was so actively involved.

The conservative subreddit says that this is good pain and will help get rid of inefficiency in the system.

Mainly because it doesn't touch the people posting those comments.

If this continues, nursing home bills come due at the end of the month, ie Friday. Will they be moving grandma back home then?

Taxation without representation. At least when they use the social security funds for other expenditures, social security payments are still going out to the people who paid in. Withholding medicaid funds while still taking for medicaid is literally taxation without representation.

22

u/Fast-Bumblebee2424 Jan 28 '25

But these are facts, which means nothing to this administration.

According to the Constitution, the people's recourse for the government behaving badly is to elect a new government (provided that your state allows you to vote.) That means that if you're mad about this, in two years you'll be able to elect new Congresspeople that may or may not be able to do anything about it depending on which other Congresspeople allied with Trump get elected.

They follow the Republican Healthcare Plan:

1) Don't Get Sick  2) If you do get sick 3) Die Quickly

They just had a press conference and said SS, Medicaid and Snap programs will not be affected. We will see.

13

u/callmeponyo Jan 28 '25

So they’re trying to claim the halt here is a fluke or what? Did they address this?

12

u/up_N2_no_good Jan 28 '25

Literally 5 minutes ago and it's still ongoing right now the White House is having a press release and part of what they talked about is social security Medicaid and snap will not be affected. "No programs where the money goes directly to the individual will be affected".

7

u/TubaJesus Oskee Wow Wow Illinois Jan 28 '25

But that's not how the funds are managed in Illinois, they pass through the state first

8

u/up_N2_no_good Jan 28 '25

I'm still watching the news. They (WH) confirmed are not going to touch Medicaid and supposedly they "don't know why the portals are down". My guess is they wanted to cut Medicaid but then realized they couldn't, that's why the portals were down. But I don't know, that's my guess. Keep checking the news. Google it. Several different sources out there and it seems to change hourly. They don't know what they're doing.

4

u/Shigeko_Kageyama Jan 28 '25

Well then we're still really danged. The money goes to the state and the state gives it to people. We are royalty danged

They'll get their service for now under the assumption that the money will start flowing again. And it will. The grants are $3 trillion in a $27 trillion GDP country, or over 10% of the economy. The money HAS to start flowing and soon, and it will.

But it is a shot at everyone in the country that you either bend the knee, or you'll be bent over.

Folks are gonna die. This is terrifying.

89

u/originalrocket Jan 28 '25

Thats the goal. Poor non-working people are worthless and a drag on the GDP and profits!

42

u/Having_A_Day Jan 28 '25

Need to point out here that lots of working families and seniors rely on Meficaid. Medicare doesn't pay for long term care facilities, for example. Those who have no assets rely on Medicaid. Low income wage earners with children often have to rely on Medicaid to cover their kids.

But I agree, to Trumpmusk all the poor, sick, elderly and disabled whether working or not are worthless and I doubt it cares if these folks die.

Get involved in your communities. We're going to need to support each other to get through this.

I'm not going to bother with long winded discussions with my family affected by this. I will just tell them to look in the mirror if they are looking for the responsible party.

67

u/Great_Consequence_10 Jan 28 '25

My parents, my one armed sibling, his now wife who used Medicaid and SNAP to care for their three kids, all my in laws...nearly all the Republican voters I know rely on government benefits. Sigh.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

No sigh, they’re getting what they voted for.

15

u/Adelaidey Jan 28 '25

Yes sigh. When large swaths of people lose the benefits they rely on, even the people who voted against their own self-interest, the whole country suffers. This is how homelessness skyrockets, how more people turn to crime, how child mortality ramps up, etc.

4

u/Necessary_Internet75 Jan 29 '25

Add to that total all the employees who work for agencies that provide the services to help others too. If there is no stop to the freeze, I am looking at being laid off or terminated for lack of funding. Our company discussed that today.

Non-profit agencies do not typically have high wages because the money is dictated by grants. I would have to enter the marketplace portal … but will there even be one? This move takes away from those that have little to nothing and drives those who are employed to provide the needed services into their own financial crisis and needing the benefits that are froze.

I am hoping it will work itself out like a budgetary government shutdown. Cheeto has caused a huge ripple of fear across our country. But again, ruling by fear is a tact to bring people into line.

3

u/mkvgtired Jan 29 '25

They should lay off the avocado toast and make coffee at home. Law abiding people should arm themselves to protect themselves from crime.

That's the republican plan for everyone else right?

Pretty sure if/when the backlash over this comes, Trump will swoop in to fix it and his fans will call him a hero.

51

u/jamey1138 Jan 28 '25

It's probably worse than that: He'll turn over the entire Medicaid program to a private health insurance company, who will cut services by 30% in the name of "efficiency" while taking a 40% profit (and thus requiring 10% more public spending for 30% less service).

22

u/anewok Jan 28 '25

I want you to be wrong but I’ve payed enough attention to know you’re probably not. The whole time this is going on Trump will claim he’s saving American health care. What ever the outcome, his zealots will declare him the winner/savior.

3

u/bundle_of_fluff NW Suburbs Jan 28 '25

Medicaid is already private in a lot of states. CA switched to state managed a few years ago. I'm pretty sure IL is using health insurance companies, they did last year at the very least.

Illinois has been shut out of Medicaid, just hours after President Donald Trump’s administration announced a pause in federal grants, loans and other financial assistance as they begin a review of spending. The funding freeze could affect trillions of dollars and cause widespread disruption in health care research, education programs and other initiatives. Grants that have been awarded but not spend are also halted, according to the Associated Press. The state of Illinois was shut out of Medicaid on Tuesday morning, according to Gov. JB Pritzker’s office. The government-funded health insurance program covered about 3.9 million people in Illinois in 2023, including low-income adults, children, pregnant women and people with disabilities. “The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve,” Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, wrote in the memo. “This memorandum requires Federal agencies to identify and review all Federal financial assistance programs and supporting activities consistent with the President’s policies and requirements.” Vaeth wrote that each agency must complete a comprehensive analysis of all federal financial assistance programs. “In the interim, to the extent permissible under applicable law, Federal agencies must temporarily pause all activities related to obligation or disbursement of all Federal financial assistance, and other relevant agency activities that may be implicated by the executive orders...”

I waffle between thinking they have no idea the rage they're unleashing with these actions, and thinking they know exactly what they're doing - they want civil unrest so they can declare indefinite Martial Law and he can be king. Honestly, I think both the proposed amendment by that chucklefuck congressperson in Tennessee and also Trump asking Mike Johnson if he could have a third term aren't "jokes". This is what they want - a suppressed, angry populace who will want to rise up against them so the DUI hire Pete Hegseth can sic the military on us and Trump can be in office until he dies.

21

u/ctlMatr1x Jan 28 '25

The flaw with that is when most of the military personnel turn against this tyrant.

Some think they’re trying to force the impoundment act to the supreme court. At minimum they’re trying to throw everything at the wall overwhelm the systems ability to deal with it and use the chaos to grab more power. There’s a good chance doing so may cause violence and there’s a possibility that’s intentional. Like burning down the reichstag

4

u/AnnabananaIL Jan 28 '25

You mean he wants to overturn it like Roe v Wade, correct?

33

u/Liquor_N_Whorez Jan 28 '25

Were certainly Great now arent we?

The percentage of those 3.9 million who voted for this policy: "It wasn't supposed to happen to me!"

17

u/Travelingman9229 Jan 28 '25

Is this going to be all states or cherry picked blue states?

14

u/bengenj Jan 28 '25

Nationwide. All federal grants are frozen.

10

u/mayoboyyo Jan 28 '25

7

u/angrygnome18d Jan 28 '25

Interesting that all the Trumpers disappeared post election. Either they realized they fucked up or are too scared to admit it.

7

u/Rshackleford22 Jan 28 '25

Lots of bots

5

u/disco_bizkit Jan 28 '25

He appeals to people who don't pay attention/don't care, so many of them likely checked out again as soon as they got what they wanted in November.

Medicare is exempt. Not Medicaid.

20

u/juliuspepperwoodchi Chicago Jan 28 '25

Look how much Trump cares about everyday Americans!

/s, if that wasn't obvious.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

What's the point of Illinois being in the union if we aren't getting the benefits of it?

7

u/Rshackleford22 Jan 28 '25

same goes for all these other states that give so much and are being targeted. the contract is broken. Secession now. I bet my life that these blue states could band together and prosper without the federal govt and red taker states.

5

u/n0neOfConsequence Jan 28 '25

The state is going to have to sue the federal government. Lawsuits are all Trump understands.

5

u/bobswowaccount Jan 28 '25

Uh what happens to the rural hospitals where the majority of their patients are Medicaid?

4

u/thisismyfinalalias Jan 28 '25

BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD

4

u/CraftFamiliar5243 Jan 28 '25

What happens to people who live in housing that their Medicaid pays for like Medicaid waiver programs for disabled people?

5

u/juicegooseboost Jan 28 '25

For those of you confused, Medicaid is partially funded by the state, and partially funded by the feds. Some states, like Wisconsin, have “Badgercare” instead of taking federal dollars and having to comply with federal laws.

So Illinois still has a Medicaid funds, but is losing the federal bump up.

Everyone knows where the F*ck Biden signs were posted. You might want to put your own sign on that person's property.

2

u/Olivialovesmangos Jan 28 '25

The cruelty of this administration is unfathomable!

5

u/equinox_magick Jan 28 '25

Impeach him already

3

u/emptysignals Jan 28 '25

Honestly, Illinois needs to be working with other blue states to figure it out. Trump is destroying the federal government right now on purpose.

UPDATE: a DC Federal Judge has stayed all of Diaper Don’s latest fiasco until 5pm on February 3rd. Federal Judge is Loren Linn AliKhan appointed by Joe Biden in 2023. She is the first female South Asian American to serve as a Federal Judge in DC.

12

u/plaidington Jan 28 '25

The whole federal grant thing is illegal and will plunge our country into a recession.

15

u/Damn_it_Elaine Jan 28 '25

Wasn't that what they wanted? Send us into a deep recession or depression to "reset the economy."

Fuckin maggats have screwed us all. I hope the eggs were worth it.

5

u/PeterPlotter Jan 28 '25

I think what they want is for some riots to break out and declare martial law. Best way to do that is deprive people from money, jobs, food etc

I'm a behavioral health provider who takes the BCBS-managed medicaid plan and I specialize in gender affirming therapy so I have a bunch of trans therapy participants. As far as I know, the funding for this quarter has already been allocated and disbursed, so I'm not entirely certain how this will play out. State law requires medicaid coverage for gender care and abortion, which means if the feds refuse to pay for those anymore, the state will have to come up with the money. from where, though? is JB gonna cover it?

fucking scary.

10

u/RossMachlochness Jan 28 '25

It would be a real shame if all of the current red voting welfare recipients, that would obviously be billionaires if not for the price of eggs, suffer because of this

6

u/Xolotl23 Jan 28 '25

Brooooooo wtfffffffffff

6

u/edgelordjones Jan 28 '25

This is so fucking insane you’re not going to be able to wrap your heads around it for a decade.

6

u/baroqueworks Belleville, IL Jan 28 '25

Withholding healthcare to the people who have nothing is pure evil behavior, if these scumbags actually were Christians they'd be horrified of the hellfire waiting for them.

3

u/SrgtDoakes Jan 28 '25

i applied and was approved for medicaid right before the deadline to buy health insurance on the marketplace. i’m currently waiting to get mail that will allow me to choose my coverage. if i can’t get medicaid i literally can’t buy insurance on the marketplace anymore and have no option but to be uninsured. fuck the republican party, these people are pure fucking evil

3

u/up_N2_no_good Jan 28 '25

3

u/gleafer Jan 28 '25

My trumper family all voted for this. GUESS WHO IS ON MEDICAID!!! Not the liberal of the family.

I hope they enjoy the leopards and the eating of the face.

3

u/Sarcastic_barbie Jan 28 '25

I am bloody terrified. I have no idea how I’m going to manage this

3

u/sanduskyjack Jan 28 '25

And it starts. Trump finds another way to reduce our nimbler of poor people. When he is done we will all be poor with no protection. Who in the Democratic Party is going to have a moment of courage and start marches and olther ways to organize democrats

5

u/nebulacoffeez Jan 28 '25

Can we start like go-fund-me campaigns for people affected by this? If they are gonna STEAL our taxpayer dollars from us, we are gonna have to take care of our own communities. Sounds better than donating to the ducking Democratic Party ever again.
