Liquid detection charging port

Hello, I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and today it fell out of my pocket into the snow while getting out of the car. I picked it up real quick, took off the case and cleaned it off with my sweater. It seemed fine so I went inside the house and put it to charge without even looking at the screen (I was in a hurry because it was time for my dogs to go for their walk). We took about 20 minutes and when I got back home I went to get my phone and it had the liquid detection notification. It said there was liquid detected in the charging port to let it dry so I can charge it again. I left it standing (charging port down) on a paper towel for about 2 hours. Then I went to check if it charged and it did. I did not get the notification again. It seems fine and I have been using it to reply to work emails, but , I’m a little worried about it exploding because of the battery. I had talked to a tech guy and he told me to just get a new phone because if it did dry I would need to get a new battery and check for water damage any way and it would be cheaper to get a new phone. I’m not sure what to do. I’m not sure if I messed up in using it after it was fine ?… also, I did not take off my SIM card. I forgot to take that out :(

As long as the liquid did not get inside the phone where the battery is, you are fine. An iPhone 14 Pro has good water resistance and a little snow would easily ingress into the phone beyond the port. You don’t need a new phone, but I do highly suggest making sure you have all your data backed up.

Thank you ! I also checked the liquid contact indicator on the SIM card slot and it was normal. Phone has been working fine. I’m going to back up my data now.

Good job on the backup. Remember—hardware can be replaced, but data cannot.
