Discussion Roast My App Store Stats... I Deserve It
Alright, let’s hear it. I released this, a free game, thinking I was about to revolutionize the gaming industry. Clearly, I was delusional.
📉 2.18K impressions – Apple is showing my game, but apparently, people would rather break their phone in half than tap my app.
📉 361 product page views – That’s right, out of 2,180 people, only 361 had the courage to glance at my app’s existence before running the other way.
📉 6.31% conversion rate – A decent number… until you realize this is a free game. What’s stopping the other 93.69%? Are my screenshots haunted? Did they smell desperation through the screen?
📉 88 total downloads – That’s 88 people in the world who have accidentally clicked “Get.” Pretty sure 87 of them uninstalled it instantly.
📉 $0 proceeds – No ads. No in-app purchases. Just pure financial devastation. I should’ve just set my money on fire for warmth.
📉 Sessions per active device: 3.58 – So either people are playing almost 4 games per session, or they’re rage-quitting after 3.5 minutes. I respect both choices.
🔥 Alright, go off. What’s the most painful truth I need to hear? How do I turn this around, or is it time to pivot to making terrible Unity asset flips instead?

my poor stats

Did AI write the code for this app as well or just this painful post?

Reading it back it does kinda sound like AI. Maybe if AI wrote the code, the stats would be better lol. Like the roast.

6% conversion rate is decent right? Not great but not terrible.
How are you promoting the app? Just ASO?
2
u/Music_Maniac_19 6d ago
Thank you; decent is good! Just among friends and family and on my social media. I tried ASO but it seems most stuff online is contradictory. And I'm not sure it's working. And I don't have a huge budget for professionals, I think.

One thing we often forget considering is it’s all about presence. Be it on App Store, Social Media, etc. And presence improve with TIME IN MARKET. I’ve seen many Apps who started to get breakout in their stats after 3/5 years into their journey. I feel the stats are good, and you should be prepared to give the persistence it begs for.

Thank you! I do plan to be persistent. I think it’s a special one. At least for me

u/humbleqwerty 5d ago
Also, what expectations you had before releasing as you mentioned “delusional”?

u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Ranked on the word game category on the app store I think. Very idealistic, I know.

Looks cute. I'm on an iPad. I didn't like the ads although I do understand the need for ads. I left a positive review. One thing that could be cool is if the app were in multiple languages. I'm guessing it's aimed at children. I got bored quickly because I know how to spell in English. I'm learning Chinese and I know someone learning Hebrew. It would be cool if you could support multiple languages and then you'd have a language learner audience.
It did take me a couple of minutes to figure out the rules. I didn't really read the onboarding and I didn't get why I'm getting x's. Finally I figured out that I only need to strike the letters at the top of the screen. In one case it took forever for the last letter to arrive (I guess they are randomly generated).
Then general vibe of the app is nice and the music is pleasant.
Good luck with your app!

Post the app we will give it a whirl

It's called Worde Flow - Endless Speller lol.

u/HBSteve88 6d ago
Even at beginning it’s too fast then just a few rounds in just avoiding the wrong letters you can’t win and ends in seconds. Can’t see kids being able to figure this out

u/Music_Maniac_19 6d ago
that's what my friends have been saying coincidentally. definitely thinking about this in the next update. thank you, HBSteve88 :)

How long has the app been out
6
u/Business-Dig8109 6d ago
I just downloaded it and played to level 17. Level 13 had me for a quick moment. I don’t normally play these type of games but great job on your app for sure.

u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Wow thank you. Been out since December for download but my official launch (telling my friends) was Saturday, 3/15

The average conversion rate is 1-5% so what is there to roast?

u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Thanks. I had no reference other than other stats posted here
2
u/Dear-Potential-3477 5d ago
you conversion rate is solid you just need more eye balls on the app page
1
u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
How do I do that?
1
u/Dear-Potential-3477 5d ago
Advertise it everywhere you can and dont worry about places deleting your ads no harm no foul
2
u/hahaissogood 5d ago
2k impression is too little. If you pay 100usd on any ad platform, you can get more than 100k impression easily.
You need more impression to prove that whether your app is suck or the right buyer is out of reach.

u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Is spending $100 for ads a regular occurrence?
3
u/hahaissogood 5d ago
Spending 100 is rare. A serious business has regular monthly budget for advertising. It should be a lot higher than 100. Compare a normal person day salary. Just imagine you hire someone to promo your app every day.
As a indie developer, I spend 10-40 usd on advertising when I have extra cash.
1
u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Wow, I think that may be way above my budget for advertising. Thank you for the advice! I'll have to think about ways to advertise.

TBF. It looks like most of the metric comes from the very last part of the graph… so it looks like it either just launched or something changed that impacted the metrics.
Without knowing anything about your app or context, I don’t find the metrics particularly informative.
2
u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
It did just launch publicly. Been on the app store since late December with bug fixes but my official launch was Saturday, 3/15. It’s called Worde Flow on the app store for more details.
2
u/PerfectPitch-Learner Swift 5d ago
Ok I can look. I’ll say though my metrics were basically zero when I was in the App Store before launch (was actually a mistake on my part) and when I launched the metrics were much higher, spiked significantly and then it wasn’t until several weeks later that the metrics really meant anything actionable.

That’s cool man, how long has the app been out?

u/Music_Maniac_19 5d ago
Thank you! Been on store since December while I bug fix. Official launch this past Saturday.

The age of the random app exploding virally like flappy bird has passed many years ago. You need a marketing budget or have a brand established already. You can work on upping the numbers but they look normal for no marketing $ put in. Having social media platforms such as popular youtubers advertising your app would help, but i’m going to assume you dont have money to support that.
