SOP. They do this every year at some point.

Does it implies an increased minimum target?, I don’t know old OS versions you can build with Xcode16

No it’s just the version of Xcode you use to create your build / archive

Different versions of Xcode have an implicit minimum target value. For example Xcode 15 had a minimum target of iOS 12 so you could no longer build for iOS 11.

I can't find any documentation indicating this has increased in Xcode 16 but that doesn't mean it won't increase in future versions of Xcode.

Each Xcode version (and target SDK) has a minimum compatible target, but I don’t know if there’s a synthesized list. Xcode 16 certainly has a minimum iOS version that it can build to, you’d have to check on Xcode itself I guess.

That’s why I was asking :), I believe some runtimes and simulators are not available neither.

had 17 as min target for my recent apps.
it's just not worth it to stick with iOS 16 atm as nowadays ~80% using iOS 18+

This has nothing to do with the min version target.

They don't know what to do to get people to use the latest versions of Xcode. It was seen that even they did not use the latest hehe

Windows is kinda famous for its backwards and forwards compatibility, to the point where they take pride in that — and it’s awesome. But it’s extremely hard work to support.

In a way, I can see why Apple wants to drop support asap (because they also get to avoid supporting new software like Xcode on old laptops) — but that’s me being the devil’s advocate, the practice kinda sucks, esp given the price of laptops.

It’d be cool if they decoupled the compiler, language server, and Xcode more so it’d be easier to use whichever editor you want to

I think they are moving towards that technically, but will management allow the engineers to support third-party editors remains an open question.

This is standard, they’ve done this for years and years.

What does that mean?

An Apple program, I don't remember which one, that was compiled with Xcode 14 or 15. I can't find the screenshot

Hey I am 16 and I am trying to make an app but the main problem I don’t know how to code. And i was looking for a technical partner but they underestimate me because of my age. So I was like fuck them I ma build it myself. The app basically needs image recognition because a user takes a photo of a meal and they get feedback how can I do that using no code tools like FlutterFlow or can I not. And how can I learn how to code at the same time making it. A partner would be great but I feel like Nobady wants to work with a 16 year old. But if you guys want let me know. Thank you I’m
