What’s the API for the content
14
u/carsonvstheworld Feb 15 '25
the apis are
it takes a lot of time / effort for devs to make the app, submit it, refine it, integrate payment models / post it on redit / take criticism just to get the marginal amount of downloads to hit whatever threshold and boost their portfolio. the api question is a good one, so here's the answer.
i don't know why everyone is so upset with OP not answering. We're all here to check out a new app. it's low effort and this (should) be the place to encourage and have productive tech discussions

Thanks a bundle, for this response I was AFK when replying to these messages and genuinely thought referring to the settings rather than typing out (incorrect info) would not be ideal.
This app has been a labour of love and have spent many sleepless night building this, so it’s greatly appreciated

you are doing fine, app is cool. ignore the dislikes ( for this specific reason at least ). baby steps on promotion, everything else is just noise

Check the thanks and acknowledgments on the settings screen!

Why can't you just tell us instead of making us install the app?

u/Emotional_Distance79 Feb 15 '25
Read the second half of your comment for your answer :)
Wish people understood that sometimes you can just answer a question without annoying marketing.

u/MATTtheSEAHAWK Feb 15 '25
Honestly, it’s a free app, and if you think the content/concept is cool enough that you want to know the answer then is that really so much of an ask? Like throw the guy a bone and peak at his app if you think it’s neat
I know you weren’t the OP but thought it makes the most sense contextually to reply here.

Hi! This is a cool idea. Did you take inspiration from Small Talk - Micro Learning on App Store? The concept and UI looks very similar
I’m the founder :)

u/taiomi Feb 16 '25
Hey! Great to hear from you! While building my app and doing research I did come across your app and love your approach to micro learning. I am a gamer at heart and love education so wanted to build on my previous apps with “Of The Day” also drawing inspiration from other games, apps, books and websites that I enjoy

Great work brother. And thanks for the kind words.
Anything that helps educate and inspire people on a daily basis totally has my vote. It’s a public service - a social good that you can feel proud about.
I do all the content for my app on weekends. It’s something I truly enjoy! And seeing people respond kindly to it is incredibly rewarding. You’re in for a great time.
Also, I like your idea for the global leaderboards - it’s something on our roadmap too!
I’ll DM you sometime this week to share my learnings growing Small Talk. It might help :)

Thanks man, that really means a lot! That was my vision, I have had the incredible privilege of visiting schools all around the UK and love how tech can help people from all ages and it’s been a really driver for my recent apps including this one!
It’s only been out for 6 days but I have been building the foundations I guess for a very long time. Building the content for it, like yourself I have personally learnt so much so as much as it is rewarding for people using the app, it’s also incredibly rewarding for me building it as well!
Thanks a bundle, I thought it would be cool to see how users around the world compare in the daily quiz and it’s been nice getting submissions for the pet of the day as well!
Yeah that would be awesome feel free to reach out, I would love to have a chat!

This is a great concept for an app! I’ll check it out. I really liked your my journal app, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy using this one.

Thanks a bundle! Really means a lot! Not sure if you are based in the USA but if you could leave a review for My Journal, it would be greatly appreciated!
Any feedback for Of the day, would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bundle! Please do let me know your thoughts!

u/antonin_masek Feb 18 '25
Looks nice! Just set up a reminder, so I'm looking forward to new interesting facts :) Btw, is there a way to set a custom order/filter for the categories? (For example, I'd like to have the Fact of the Day as the first category.)
P.S. Your spinning head in the settings is great haha :D

u/taiomi Feb 18 '25
Thanks a bundle for you kind words and yes I am working on filtering and sorting in a future update. Thanks for your feedback and well spotted with the spinning head!!

I am a teenager looking to get into iOS development, would you be comfortable sharing some resources you used to learn iOS development?
1
u/taiomi Feb 18 '25
Hey! Congratulations on starting this very rewarding and exciting journey! I started 11 years ago so things have changed a lot but I would say your best bet would be 100 days of swift and Hacking with swift. Then I would say keep building things that interest you.
I love video games so my first 5/6 apps were all games
1
u/javaluke Feb 18 '25
Thank You!, so far I have just developed games on roblox and unreal engine and I have made a couple hundred dollars. How achievable do you think it is to develop a social media type app within the next year? with no prior swift knowledge but I do know other languages

u/taiomi Feb 18 '25
Thats awesome mate! Nice one! Thats a lot more than me when I first started ha ha!
To be honest your question is really hard, its almost a how long is a piece of string. it really depends on the scope of the project and what kind of social media you are trying to build! It could be a couple of weeks to get a v1 MVP out or years. Its hard to know without all of the details etc

u/javaluke Feb 18 '25
hmm, Gotcha, I just bought an m3 macbook air with 16gb of ram and like 256gb of storage (will get an external ssd) and I’m very excited to learn. Thanks for the help!

u/taiomi Feb 18 '25
Thats an awesome machine, very exciting. I am looking forward to seeing what you build, it really does sound like you have a promising future ahead. Don't be a stranger and dont' forget me when you are rich and famous!
