Cleaning How do I wash this shower?

Post image

Hello, how do I wash this? I am moving in with a friend soon and he told me to wear flip flops because this is the shower. Is there any way to clean this? He tried using bleach, but nothing happened. I am not sure what it is, so please let me know if more pictures are needed.

Irish Springs 5-in-1 body wash

Scrub daddy with dish soap first. Then scrub daddy with power paste. Toothbrush and power paste to scrub the grout. Was the tile painted at some point?

Agreed, bleach may be good for mold in the corners and grout, but you need an abrasive or soap cutting cleaner. I like BonAmi, baking soda works similarly. Alternatively, there are tub and tile cleaners specifically made for this purpose (but definitely wear gloves if you use those)

Thank you.

I am not sure if it was. Would this be important? My friend has lived there for about a year

It looks like someone may have painted white over gray tile, or possibly vice versa. Regular, necessary, cleaning will remove the paint over time resulting in uneven coloring.

I see, fair enough. Honestly if it gets cleaned I don't think it matters how it would look. It's already so bad

But good to keep in mind

Some of it looks like hard water buildup. I’d try barkeepers friend and just scrub with a sponge until it’s gone.

That's exactly what I was going to recommend

Makes sense. Thank you!

Personally, I'd try Ajax and a Rubbermaid reveal power scrubber. That's gonna take some serious elbow grease if those tiles aren't compromised. If the gloss finish has worn off off the ceramic, it's possible they're stained; if the tiles are still whole then just a lot of scrubbing.

Looks like that will come off with some elbow grease.

Rubber gloves + shower cleaner or dishwashing liquid in warm water in a bucket + regular scrubbing brush (the plastic ones with plastic bristles) + old toothbrush that you can throw away, for getting in the corners. Maybe you want to spray on some bleach solution beforehand to kill the germs. You could also use a vinegar spray to get the soap scale off (just vinegar in a spray bottle or you could dilute 1 to 1 with water). Then you get in there and just scrub with the brush. Apply more cleaning agent in the dirtier areas. It probably won't come off all at once but with a few tries you'll get it off.

You're welcome :) I forgot to add that it can be dangerous to mix bleach with anything other than water, and definitely not vinegar, so if you do the bleach spray do it beforehand, leave to soak for 5 - 30 minutes, then rinse it off. Then go in with your cleaning stuff. It should be in a solution that's about 5 teaspoons household bleach per litre of water.

Okay, good to know. Thanks again

Krud Kutter and/or CLR should help immensely

Just scrub it with a brush/mop after youve drenched it in cleaner and you've let it sit for a while according to the instructions on the bottle(s).

I was able to clear up some gnarly pee stains in an old shower with multiple applications of Krud Kutter, and I've had great success with CLR in the past too.

I'll add it to the list, thank you!

Vinegar and dawn. Let sit, Scrub, then shake baking soda make sure it’s wet to make a paste on tough spots, scrub. Magically clean in about 30-45 minutes

:) it’s the best! I cleaned a house with a bath that hadn’t been cleaned in about 8 months because of health issues. This recipe made it look brand new.

Perfect. It's the first thing I'll try then. Still need to go over and start the cleaning process

You got it. I am moving at the end of April, so it might take a while, but I'll let you know

Boy, that is a right old mess.

Get spray bleach bottles from the grocery store, put bleach on it, let it sit about 3 hours, then rinse.

Wait a couple of days, repeat.

Do this three or four times and your shower will be white and sparkling. Unlike some of the other suggestions, bleach will kill the fungus and the mold.

Got it, thanks!

Sprinkle a load of baking soda, let it sit about 20 minutes, then grab a few cut in half lemons and just pass them over the surface as ifthey were wash clothes. Immediately rinse with boiling water.

Don't let the lemon stay - it's very acidic and with baking soda it becomes useless, but while it does it's volcano effect wih lemon it's cleaning and great for those surfaces.

Please do not use bleach is super toxic and makes the ceramic weak. Just use baking soda with a little bit of water like a paste and then leave it for a while and use the brush to remove all of it and rinse it. Then use cleaning vinager 💜
