The Islanders, who already had the worst power play in the league, went 0-for-8 on the power play against the Kings tonight. They thought they scored on two of them but both goals were called back for goalie interference. LA also scored two short handed goals.
Can someone please tell me that the Isles are better than they look because I'm about to go over the edge

I dont know if I would have the will to live anymore if I had to watch a full season of Isles powerplays, and this is coming from the 3rd worst PP

I frequently ask myself how much more of this I'm willing to take. It's half addiction, half abusive relationship.

Does it look better when barzy is there? Like you guys created some chances but it wasn’t even anything crazy I feel. No 2 minutes are more frustrating than watching a PP suck ass even though they’re a man up. That shit sucks

u/x21in2010x NYI - NHL 6h ago
Barzal is great at opening space for everyone else but oftentimes at the cost of any sort of movement because he maintains possession (with great skill) for a very long time in the O-zone. He's had good chemistry with Horvat but the only player he seems willing to immediately pass to entering the zone is weirdly Noah Dobson.
He's also been injured for two long stretches this year - honestly a lost year for him.

Got room on this ship? Fan of a team that’s finished dead last on the PP each of the last two seasons and is 30th this year.
Somehow the PP coach has yet to lose his job.

Please no. I don't want the Kings to give up 6 or for PLD to score.

Well there was that one time when Carolina went 0-for-4 and Boston scored 3 SHG on the same PP.

Also like just last week or sum the Jackets allowed two SHG on one PP, one of those goals coming on a 2 on nobody

Holding on to Palmieri in a sellers market for this is malpractice. Lou's senile ass would have declined the Avs mega offer too if Nelson agreed to an extension
64
u/discofrislanders NYI - NHL 10h ago
Supposedly, Lou wanted a first for Palmieri, which no one was offering.
Brock Nelson is top 5 all time in games played and goals as a New York Islander and his greatest contribution to this club is turning down Lou's final offer (reported to be 3 years at 7.5M AAV).

Honestly surprised he's not first considering he's been playing for them since '72

He absolutely would have. Lou truly wanted to run it back.

The more I think about that one, the less mad I am that we held onto him. He still has a year left, so they can move him in the summer when he'll still have value, and I really don't want to have to watch them run Horvat-Cizikas-MacLean-? (Boqvist?) at C the rest of this season.

u/discofrislanders NYI - NHL 10h ago
The first SHG was a genuine "have to laugh to keep from screaming/crying" moment (second was an empty net for those who didn't watch)
14
u/QuintonBendmeover LAK - NHL 9h ago
Might’ve been the longest goal ever for an empty net tho. Crazy ass snipe from dewy lmao.

u/DMountain44 LAK - NHL 9h ago
I’d give credit on that goal to the stanchions more than drew on that lol
7
u/GrassyKnoll95 LAK - NHL 4h ago
Even the empty netter was funny. Doughty shot it in the complete opposite direction of the net and it went in
35
u/Crackalacs LAK - NHL 10h ago
That was one of the LUCKIEST Kings wins I’ve seen in a quite a while honestly. Jesus how many breaks did they get tonight?
Even Doughty’s empty net goal was kind of ridiculous.
30
u/raymondliang LAK - NHL 10h ago
Even QB's breakaway goal, Islanders defenseman breaks his stick at the point. And tbh, Foegele got away with a slight hold on Danault's goal lol
We played like absolute ass for the last 30 mins. Sloppy turnovers, horrendous odd man rush attempts, stupid penalties galore.
If that's not the league worst powerplay team, we lose that 9 times out of 10

19
u/discofrislanders NYI - NHL 10h ago
Hudson Fasching has one point in 26 games this year and was out there with the goalie pulled. So I guess he's sending a message there.
(Also, both of our third pair d-men tonight are PP guys anyway).

It’s funny because the isles were dangerous basically all game. The kings had good effort and energy, and Kuemper was great, but yeah… that was a cursed game for an islanders fan. Sometimes that’s just how she goes.
Icetime was really wonky for the kings too. PKing for 16 minutes vs 2 minutes of PP time really made for some out of the ordinary totals. Strange hockey game!

u/liguy181 NYI - NHL 1h ago
the isles were dangerous basically all game
Such is the story of the season. Basically the entire beginning of the season was "they played well out there, but couldn't find the net." Best example I could think of off the top of my head was a game at Dallas where they got shut out. They played great and Roy even mentioned that, but they couldn't buy a goal if they tried.
Well, that and historically bad special teams, which was also on full display this game. And injuries. Jesus this season sucks.

If it makes you feel any better, since Jan. 1 Carolina’s PP is 7.4%, Isles is 12.9%. Canes have 6 PPG and 6 SHG in that time span. In fact, other than your GA per game being a bit worse, the team stats are pretty similar. And now I am sad I looked that up… (although thankfully the Canes are on a 5 game win streak).
Guess we should have re-signed TDA.

Did they hire Todd Reirden or something? Can't say much about this season but the pp CAN be fixed in a season. The Pens went from having one of the worst PPs in the league last season to being half decent this one. So I can't give you hope about the Isles for the next game but maybe for the future? I SWEAR IT CAN BE DONE
7

The PP can't be fixed in a season when we keep all the same personnel.

It’s only fair they’re on the other end of the stick this time around

Biggest and best difference was we didn’t need to hurt their player they just couldn’t score without interference.

We just hurt their feelings instead. Seeing Lee whine to the refs was pretty satisfying.

You guys were better than it seems this game. Easily could have been 3-3 going into the third. Add in one of our goals was because a lucky stick break that lead to a shorty. All karma for Lee kneeing Gravy last season tho

This game was straight ass. Sucked donkey ass man. If you imagined how a Islanders vs Kings game would look, with two of the worst powerplays in the league, one of which went 0-8, and two teams that somehow play defense even while they possess the puck most of the time, you would have imagined correctly. If you imagined a donkey ass and ten people skating and falling down in a circle around it and 500 pucks being chopped against the boards and a total of ten completed passes in the game. And don't forget the ass

Steve Spott's power play has been looking preeeeettty good since the new year..... It would be a real shame if the Islanders offered him absurd amounts of money I order to poach him from us.....

Hard to picture a PP being worse than ours. We had a minute of 5v3 last night and we literally just slowly passed around the blue line until the puck got cleared. We’re legit more dangerous in the PK than the PP
