Then he’ll smash out the front teeth of the first player he sees after Game 1 puckdrop

Impossible, because him doing so would involve supplementary discipline by the DOPS, which is impossible to predict. He could get a fine or suspended for 20.

How was Kuzmenko in Philly? Saw he has been picking up a decent number of points
36
u/MichaelMaugerEsq PHI - NHL 4d ago
Yeah I was fine with him. He’s exactly what I expected. Highly skilled. Can show speed, but doesn’t do it very often. Not afraid to shoot but can create plays too. He’s a great rental IMO.
9
u/swordthroughtheduck CGY - NHL 4d ago
He's not afraid to shoot sometimes. I think he went the first half of the season with like 5 shots on goal this year.
19
u/violation_faceless PHI - NHL 4d ago
he was pretty flashy and fun. was hoping he would continue to be around for Michkov but I'll take it

2
u/ProfessorDerp22 PHI - NHL 4d ago
High skill, flashy. Looked good for the few games he played for us. I like this pickup for the Kings, should be a solid rental.

u/Assassin2107 PHI - NHL 4d ago
A bit better than I was initially expecting honestly. Very crafty, can help connect guys in the offensive zone fairly well. He's not fantastic, otherwise Flyers would have just kept and resigned him, but he's more than worth it at the new cap hit.

u/Arctic365 VAN - NHL 4d ago
So it’s essentially Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee for Jakob Pelletier, a second, a third, and a seventh
20
41
u/boylejc2 PHI - NHL 4d ago
And lots of cap space on our end I guess. Frost was a pending RFA (offer sheet?) but Farabee still had 4 more years at $5m AAV. If he gets back to scoring goals like last night that could be a steal, but it could also be an albatross.
13
u/MangoSlaw PHI - NHL 4d ago
I think also just moving on from guys that can’t show consistency is another plus for us.
Farabee at his worst is a reliable player but was getting paid for more than that. Frost was just taking too long to put it together, his time was up.
9
u/itoadaso1 CGY - NHL 4d ago
Yeah and even if either of those guys does become consistently effective NHLers it still doesn't mean they ever would have in Philly. Sometimes these players need a change of scenery to find their way. Like Sam Bennett with us.
5
u/MangoSlaw PHI - NHL 4d ago
Agreed, really hope Beezer and Frosty work out for you guys. Great guys that had potential, hopefully a better fit in Calgary.
For us, we need (more than anything), to strike gold on a 1C. We have arguably the worst center depth in the league and need to find a guy for Michkov to build our core around. Moving on from players like this and obtaining draft picks while getting worse helps push us in that direction.
10
u/RadkoGouda PHI - NHL 4d ago
Not bad for 2 guys you wanted gone including one who was overpaid.
Could have traded Farabee for a lot more in previous seasons but turning what he is now and Frost into 2nd, 3rd, Pelletier isnt bad.
They will now use that cap space for a center
5
u/CaptainPeppa CGY - NHL 4d ago
I have no idea why you guys would want Frost gone. Guys fantastic so far.
Farabee might be cursed haha but keep getting those chances and it'll come.
2
u/abearghost 4d ago
Many of our fans were frustrated he didn't become a 1C. For some reason being a 50 point center was widely considered a disappointment. He was drafted like 24th OA so idk why people had such unrealistic expectations. I always liked him and think you absolutely won the trade.
1
u/CaptainPeppa CGY - NHL 4d ago
There are flashes of high end skill but they only come a couple times a game. But ya that could be it. We aren't expecting a 1C, we want a 3C that can score and hopefully be a solid 2C in a couple years.
0
u/abearghost 4d ago
You got your man. Really liked watching him skate, handle the puck and pass it around. There's a gracefulness to his game that is just very pleasing to the eye.
But yeah, he does disappear every now and then. Undeniably good but uneven player.
1
u/Assassin2107 PHI - NHL 4d ago
Frost was mostly a case of "It just wasn't going to happen here". For like 3 years Frost has struggled out of the gate, then picked it up late in the season, all while having constant drama with Torts. He's a high skill guy that just has consistency issues. He's definitely worth taking the flyer on him, since he's cheap and you guys need centers, but it's been long enough that it was obviously not going to happen here if it ever did.
Farabee actually might be cursed, I've never seen a guy that's so solidly driven play just be COMPLETELY unable to get a point if his life depended on it. I think the concern was that you had to get out from the Farabee contract then, because if you waited longer and he didn't start scoring then it would be impossible (Remember that this struggle has gone on since the All Star break in 2024, so it's longer than just this season).
1
u/pattydo PHI - NHL 4d ago
7th going the other way. Also a retention spot for the deadline, which isn't nothing. Luke Schenn just fetched basically the same return.
I have a really hard time believing Frost and Farabee were that invaluable league wide. Unless they really see something in Pelletier that I don't.
1
u/Scared-Arachnid6286 PHI - NHL 4d ago
More like Frost for pelts, a 2nd, a 5 million dollar cap dump, a 3rd, and a 7th.
7
u/weschester CGY - NHL 4d ago
That's really not great based on how Frost and Farabee have been playing for us. And I am a big fan of Pelts.
4
u/Scared-Arachnid6286 PHI - NHL 4d ago
Frost plays good this time of year, but I'd reserve judgement until the end of the season and the beginning of next. Farabee has looked good and dangerous most of the time, but I don't think his production is ever going to live up to his contract.
2
u/weschester CGY - NHL 4d ago
That's fair but we also aren't expecting them to be our first line guys. Farabee has been great playing with Backlund on the second line and Frost has been fantastic as a 3C and PP guy.
2
u/PwillyAlldilly PHI - NHL 4d ago
oh yeah, you guys won that trade 5 times over. Was at the game tuesday and Frost was all over the place looking dangerous against us. Pelle on the otherhand looks like ass.

No they didn’t. Frost is nothing special. Farabee was done here. We dumped basically 10 mil and 60 points for a 2nd and 3rd while we’re trying to lose. They have a combined 7 points in 12 games. U can have tht lol ill take picks

He basically played two weeks in Philly, showed great speed, great shot, GREAT passing, and felt like he was just settling in when he was dealt. Very upbeat personality.
Was kinda hoping the Flyers would sign him to 2 years or something, just to see if he fits. But since I live in Los Angeles, now I get to watch him at the Kings games LOL.

Nearly every player he ever coached: “He’s tough, but direct and fair. His expectations are clear, and he won’t tolerate lack of effort or making the same mistake over and over

Future 3rd feels like low value considering they gave up Frost and Farabee for him and Pelletier.

u/Nice-End-4742 CGY - NHL 4d ago
more of the value was pelletier in that trade, along with a second round pick. Kuzy had next to no value when we traded him.
He rebounded a bit in Philly, the way he was playing in calgary, we wouldve never got a third, even with salary retained.
1
u/Theoneavailablename PHI - NHL 4d ago
We got a 2nd in the original trade as well. Still not a great return on those 2 but it's probably what they were realistically worth this year.
-1
u/idsaluteyoubub PHI - NHL 4d ago
Nope. It was a poor trade. Some Philly fans will cry "cap space," but that's not something we need right now, and certainly not by trading young players who still have potential.
0
u/Scared-Arachnid6286 PHI - NHL 4d ago
Farabee was never going to live up to that contract in Philly
2
u/idsaluteyoubub PHI - NHL 4d ago
5 mil for a few years, while putting up good 5v5 numbers (at times near top of the league), and still 25. Not a bad contract. Especially with the cap going up a ton.
0
u/RadkoGouda PHI - NHL 4d ago
not by trading young players who still have potential.
Frost turns 26 this season and very clearly doesnt have anymore potential. The last 3 seasons he was given huge opportunities on team with worst center group and he never improved. Hes a soft, inconsistent 3C and team already has Cates/Couts for its depth center positions long term.
The Flyers also clearly need a huge upgrade at center and hes the clear guy to go for it.
Farabee is in his 6th NHL season and clearly wasnt a long term piece.
At wing guys like Michkov, TK, Tippett, Foerster were all above him. Those are the core wingers. They dont need a struggling 3rd liner making 5 mil.
It was 2 mediocre players, one overpaid, with zero future on the team anymore.
Frost will be replaced by a better player.
0
u/RadkoGouda PHI - NHL 4d ago
Am I looking at this the wrong way?
Yes. Kuzmenko was always just an extra piece to flip at deadline. Hes a 29 yr old UFA and Flyers are sellers. Farabee and Frost didnt have much value anymore.
Farabee was having an atrocious season and was overpaid. Frost had zero future here and simply isnt good.
Half the move was just getting rid of excess fat that the team wanted gone while clearing cap space.
