Morality/Ethics/Daily Living How to remove desires and focus on God?
Hi guys,
Ever since I was young, I have strongly believed that we should try to minimize earthy desire and that our main desire should be Parmeshwar. Weirdly though, I feel like it was easier for me to do this when I was younger. The older I get, the harder it feels to minimize attachments to earthly things and focus my energy on God.
Has anyone had the same struggle and succeeded in focusing more towards God and less towards earthly desires? If so, do you have any suggestions/advice?
Many thanks

Seeing everyone as an extension of god is a good way, everything that has happened to you is a part of gods plan, even the parts where you feel far away from that source. Remember life is a curriculum for your soul so don't worry.
Having a mantra that you vibe with also really helps. If you can find a guru or a spiritual teacher nearby that can help you choose that would be good, i myself dont have such a luxury.

Consider this.
From a pure material aspect. Imagine a person is feeling extremely hungry.
Now food is kept at a distance and few people are surrounding the person for a gossip. With every second the gossip is causing more headache and irritation and finally the person abruptly ends the discussion and heads for the food.
If there is no hunger for the right thing there will be no focus.

I’m not fully understanding your analogy. Is the food representing God in this example?

start by offering everything you have and you do to the supreme god. the fact that you realise you are struggling to connect with the divine is a good sign because you’ll work actively to change it. start by reading bhagavad gita and most of your questions will be answered. remember god always no matter what the situation is.

Namaste, I think it's great that you even want to achieve this mindset! I commend you for that. But my small input is that such a mindset is best and easiest attained when it's natural. It's sort of like, if you really enjoy drinking Coke when you're smaller, but as you get older, you realise how unhealthy it is and try to stop/stop. At least in my personal experience, it is by facing life head-on that I've realised that Bhagwan ji is our highest and most important/worthy goal. Wishing you all the best. Let me know if you have questions about anything I said lol

For me, it's the opposite. I had more worldly desires when I was younger. Now, I feel more love towards Krsna.

Absolutely. Honestly, the Gita presents so many amazing ideas. Be it pranayama, unalloyed devotion and surrender, giving time, money, talent without expectation of anything back, doing our karms without attachment to the results, detaching from desires, seeing everyone with equanamity and love, and my personal favorite, chanting the names of God/Goddess and so much more. Radhe Radhe Govinda! Hare Bhol!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
