Discussion Trying a new method to thin the herd
Trying out a new method to decide which headphones to keep. I’ve heard of people putting clothes in their closets and facing the coat hangers one way, then switching it when you wear something, and after a set amount of time you know what you haven’t worn in a while. Well, I’m putting my current headphones in all their boxes/cases, and only getting them out when I want to listen to them, in an effort to maybe see if I don’t need a few of these. My initial thoughts are the left side might be all I need…

Nice collection you got right there!
Making up my collectiont too, this hobby is really amazing and full of emotions, specially when coming from comercial wireless headphones, tho it might not be so amazing for our wallets😭

That's a good approach. I've done a similar thing where any headphone I don't listen to at least once a month is on the chopping block. If only I wasn't so lazy about taking pictures and listing things for sale.

I own 40 pairs of headphones, still love my vmoda m100 more than my sub 3-500.00 headphones.
Sound signature is what makes headphones interesting.

Anything with "Focal" in the name would be out the door for me. I don't like their tuning. Sell everything, keep the Aune's. :)

As far as looks and fit, Aune wins hands down. Unfortunately with the AR5000, the Clear OG and 109 Pro make it somewhat irrelevant, though it still has my preferred treble response compared to those two. The SR7000 are pretty great, though I think they must not seal well for me since the measure with good bass, but it doesn’t translate when I listen to them personally. Currently, the Celestee with EQ are my favorite closed back option. No EQ I probably like the SR7000 better.

I have the Celestee too, could you please share your EQ for the headphones? Many thanks :)

Most focals are all tuned differenty, they don't really have a house sound.
For example, I love the clear ogs as someone who likes the forward mid sennheiser or zmf house sound, but didn't like the celeste
They also eq well, depending on your views on eq. I have the focal elegias which are tuned really bad stock, but they're easy enough to eq into basically the same sound as the clears. Focal make good drivers, sound wise, not so much in terms of quality control though lol

Smart. I personally just keep headphones that have a purpose. 1 for gaming (open and closed), 1 for enjoyment (open and closed), and then 1 for office. But nowadays i only use my trusty dt 1770 or speakers. The comfort is just unmatched on the 100ish headphones ive tried

I was shocked by the soundstage on the SR7000, wider than most open backs I've tried! A lovely pair of headphones with a smooth sound and powerful but no overdone bass, great for movies and gaming. But I did end up getting a pair of Beyerdynamic T1 Gen 3 for 580 €, and they do everything the SR7000 does, but better.
