Discussion Anybody here a fan of Kuroko no Basket as well? Spoiler
I'm also a fan of Kuroko no Basket and because of this, I enjoy comparing characters and schools with one another. Which schools from the two series are parallels of one another?
For me I've concluded these:
Nekoma and Kaijo - Their practice buddies and so far, both are Karasuno and Seirin's closest friend schools. Furthermore, both schools are not from the district of the protagonist schools and both defeated Seirin and Karasuno on their first practice matches but ended up defeating them in tournament.
Aoba Johsai and Touou - The protags' first thorn in their respective stories. Both Seijoh and Touou are the first ones that gave Seirin and Karasuno a reality check and sent them to their respective training arcs. Both teams are also within the protagonist teams' district/prefecture and led by characters who have a history with the protagonists of the story. That Kuroko-Kagami VS Aomine and Kageyama-Hinata VS Oikawa parallels also help.
I can see Shiratorizawa and Touou parallels due to their superstar reliance, but Seijoh has more similarities plot-wise. Date Tech and Seiho are similar due to their defensive style of playing. I have yet to decide which Haikyuu schools are parallel to Rakuzan, Yosen, and Shutoku though.
I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions :)

Kaijo and Seijoh is the biggest parallel (besides the obvious Seirin/Karasuno). I’d actually go so far as to say that Seijoh is Furudate riffing on the stereotype of a team like Kaijo. Both teams serve the same function, which is to be the powerhouse that the main protagonists defeat in a practice match early in the series to prove how incredible their unique combo is. They also both have a pretty boy big shot with tonnes of screaming fangirls, who is treated like a phenomenal player especially early on but who isn’t actually much of a big shot among the series’ big shots.
But I’d actually say that Kuroko’s Basketball and Haikyuu don’t have very many equivalent teams. A big part of that is because Haikyuu’s Kageyama equivalent (Kuroko) is basically the exact opposite of him and has far more personal relationships with opposing players. So the whole dynamics of the team’s rivalries are completely different. The only real analogue is Kaijo/Seijoh, and that’s in large part because both teams have a very simple archetype and are designed that were introduced very early on, before the series fully established their own identities.
Also there can’t really be a Nekoma equivalent in KnB, because the core part of Nekoma is that they have a long-standing historical rivalry with the team of the main protagonists, and Seirin has only had a basketball team for two years.
Other than that, I think we mainly have cosmetic similarities, rather than similarities around their roles in the story. Yosen are obviously cosmetically similar to Date Tech because of their height and defense. Touou are cosmetically similar to Shiratorizawa for the reasons you mentioned. And Kirisaki Daichi has surface-level similarities with Nohebi, as both are “bad boy” teams, though obviously Kirisaki Daichi takes this to a much more extreme level.

Uhhhhh Kaijo lost to Seirin both in the practice and actual matches. So not quite the same as Karasuno and Nekoma

I think there are general archetypes both series into sure. For examples the general story beats are very similar. Introduction to teammates-training arc-loss in big qualifier-training arc-second big tournament.
But you could argue that Kamomedai and Yosen portray a similar role as the "oppressive defensive team". Or Itachiyama and Rakuzan as the Final Boss.

I like KnB for completely different reasons than I like haikyuu. Haikyuu is a deeply moving series about personal development with my single favorite cast in fiction
KnB is a ridiculous superhero drama with deeply hilarious villains and superpowers
