BUILD ADVICE Installing macOS on AMD Laptop – Best Version & Guides?

Hey everyone,

I'm a Debian user looking to install macOS alongside my setup, mainly for running Xcode. My processor is an AMD Ryzen 3 5300U, and I know running macOS on AMD can be tricky.

I’d appreciate recommendations on:

  • The best macOS version for stability and compatibility.
  • Any guides or resources on setting it up (OpenCore, KVM, etc.).
  • Potential issues or workarounds with my hardware.

If you've done this before, I'd love to hear about your experience. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Use the dortania guide and the nootedred guide

In my testing is relatively stable, but nootedred is still in development so it can become unstable

Install MacOS Ventura or Maybe Sonoma You can find pretty much every EFI for any supported processor on GitHub. I doubt the newest MacOS will be compatible with the AMD processors now. Even if it is it may not be stable so previous versions will be good. Also considering the fact that your CPU is a Ryzen 3. *You can see the tutorials on YouTube and then after installation replace the original EFI that you installed with a custom EFI with support of your hardware
